  • awesome

  • love it, you can so clearly hear Mark's guitar style adding such a unique touch to this song.

  • was that Sheila E. on the bongos?

  • Jody Linscott was on persussion...

  • Anyone know who the Bong Girl is? Looks like she has her own very nice set of Bongos...

  • Their different guitar styles perfectly compliment each other and that's what its all about. Enjoy listening to them together.

  • So freaking awesome to see Mark and Eric playing together... Watching a dream, LOVE IT

  • je l'adore eric....

  • love it, great Live version of After Midnight with 2 of the greatest guitarists cheers

  • man this is such a badass version! I Love it and my ears can't get enough of it! Far better than both his and cale's originals:))

  • at the end of this video you can see mark grew up with an acoustic guitar, eric clapton with electric

  • @Berlusfan Not true. Mark got his first guitar at the age of 15, it was an electric. The guitar was a red Hofner strat copy and he learned his chops on it. Mark couldnt afford an amp after his dad bought him the strat so he continued playing with it while resting his head on the electric guitar so he could hear it. Later he would borrow friends acoustic guitar's and play in folk joints.

  • I'm a big Clapton fan and have a Custom Shop Clapton Strat - this is possibly the worst tone I've ever heard him have...

  • esta bueniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiisimo gracias por subir este clasico

  • Love It ~ Oh you know it!

  • agree with the comment a few below - the JJ/Clapton version at Crossroads is more to my taste...but hell, I'm just an EC fan. he can do whatever he likes!

  • 1 of the blues guitarists & 1 of the best fingerpicking guitarists, thats talent right there folks.

  • Best of the best! Guitar Gurus!!!

  • the JJ Cale Clapton version kills this by maybe 100X

  • 3 people have to work midnight shift

  • Beautiful J.J.Cale song, slowed down for our ocular delight.

  • every single second is perfect sung/plaied, hear live things of kesha or katy perry and you will think: Where has good music gone to... THIS IS DAMN AMAZING

  • Wonderful! I was at that show - right in the very front and it was great. Actually, I did not remember Mark coming on stage, but the concert was a blast!

  • Michelob version with the pipe organ rocks

  • 2:36 Mistake

  • @MrJonaa12 hardly....

  • @MrJonaa12 You meant 02:34.

  • @comedylaff Thanks

  • @MrJonaa12 Happens to the best of 'em. LOL.

  • beautiful J J Cale song !!

  • Clapton looked so hot back then

  • Anyone got tabs for the outro solo? It's so frikkin sweet, sends chills down my spine every time he makes that strat howl that first bend. Can't figure it out by ear. I mean, its Clapton.

  • Thanks for posting this footage. This is no doubt one of the best live Clapton performances I've ever heard/seen. I remember seeing the Michelob commercials which featured this song and I think any true Clapton fan would agree this version is way better than that featured on the Timepieces CD. Knopfler's fills and the background singers are killer!! Any one know if this footage is available for sale?

  • If they would make a movie about Clapton, Hugh Laurie should play Clapton.

  • @Dodgibishi it would be great

  • man, if clapton and knopfler are true leyends; katie kissoon also deserves a recognition. this vid i from 1988 if im right, and I saw her 3 years ago in a concert of roger waters, also saw her in a robbie williams gig, also appears in the robbie williams show DVD in a duet. she a living leyend in her own style.

ps: she is the black one...

  • Supercool. To benefit Crossroads drug treatment center, Blackie was auctioned off for a record 920 THOUSAND dollars. A record since beaten. Glen

  • dud ethis man mekes me cry hes so good

  • Helll YEAHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • Holy shit those chicks can sing :D

    Great song, Great Guitarists!

  • This song is just great! Wish i was there to see the consert. Mark is in his own class!

  • Yeh! Me too.! Ilike it!!!!!!!!!! Thank You to all who post these videos.

  • Always a favorite...this guy can jam!!!

  • Love that Eric and Mark kill it, glad Mark is getting more of the respect he deserves. But the Jerry Garcia Band version off "Don't Let Go" is even better (funky)....Donna Jean gets down...What is all about

  • i just dont get it. never have.

  • this is class

  • Eric & Mark r both bad as hell. They compelement each other. WOW!!!

  • Love this 80's version, leaves alot more room for EC to build up his emotion for his final second solo at the end of the song, givin the song its bite!

  • Mark's a class act

  • I had no idea that Mark could play the guitar like this, he is EC's equal if not better...I really had no idea until the last few months that he got down like this--he is a MAN!!

  • one of the best versions

  • Clapton is the man!

  • im pretty sure the guitar hes playin is " Blackie" or his new blackie. which is a franken strat

  • this is not blackie or the "new" blackie(there is no new blackie). blackie was retired in 1985,and did not have lace sensors. this is one of his sig strat models by fender, i think this is his "cigarette model". the body color isnt black its pewter.

  • does mark knopler look cool or what!!!

  • This guys play toooooooooo muuuuuuuuuchhhhh! Be on top ten guitar players certainly!

  • better than Heaven!

  • Can anyone tell me which guitar does Eric play in this vid?

  • its a fender stratocaster i believe

  • it does look like a strat... si=o I say its a strat

  • @TheLyonhard Clapton got his own signature stratocaster, I guess thats what he is playing.

  • @gobbenatoren Thanks :D

  • @gobbenatoren He Retired "Blackie" (His Strat that his signature model guitar is based off of) in the 1980's because if severe neck and fret wear. so he and Fender, designed the signature model strat he plays here. I had the great pleasure of playing not only the signature guitar, but ALSO the exact replica of the "blackie" strat. both of which, play like a dream.

  • @BluesMan88 yeah guessed he retired blackie around that time. You got to play one of those? thats pretty cool, Ive only played cheap fender knockoffs.

  • @gobbenatoren The replica was such a dream to play. believe it or not i made a strat very similar to blackie. did it the minute i got home. sounds pretty close but i was playing through a fender amp.

  • @TheLyonhard I guess it's his Blackie. He made it from parts of three guitars I think. Check on Wikipedia.

  • The work done by Mark Knopfler in the background is just amazing .... Love these two ! :)

  • Great song, however one would think that a guitarist like Mark Knopfler would get some more attention.

  • Yeah true but this will happen. There have been a few times where Knopfler has asked Clapton to just play a simple rythem. Sultan's of swing and money for nothing I think. But you make a good point.

  • one would think so,, as good as he is,,, but EC is just too good to interupt

  • Wow! Two excellent guitarists. I love this song, thanks for uploading. Mark is just awesome, filling in the blanks. This is much better then the original.

  • Excellent! Thanks for the upload. Hard to believe that this is already 21 years old. Wow!

  • I think I like this version better than the original. Great electric guitar touch from Mark!

  • @Knutty4Knopfler and one foolin guy didnt ´like that. shame on him

  • @Knutty4Knopfler Well.. the original is JJ Cale.
