Thanks so much for this treasure. I've loved her for almost 50 years - and can hardly believe that, on 24 April our girl will celebrate her 70th birthday - still magnificent, always will be. Lovely to hear that young voice at the start of her incredible career. I bought 'The Barbra Streisand Album' and was totally blown away by it. I bought 3 copies of the 1st and 2nd albums cos I played them bald. The only fan letter I ever wrote was to Barbra, in 1964 - and God love her, she wrote back!
This is so wonderful. You are my hero.God bless you. I still have "The Barbra Streisand Album", and "Color Me Barbra", which I wore out when I was in grade school in the 60's. I just simply adored her. I was in high school when the movie "Funny Girl" came out. I am positive I saw it ten times and also played the album until it wouldn't play anymore.Always was and will be a fan. Thank you.
Why don't they release these gems? Do they think there is not a market? My bet is they would go through the roof. Start with the 60's do a 5 disk set. Follow up with each new decade every year. With each decade 70's, 80's... do a 5 disk set. Concerts, demos, and alternate takes.
@mrrobk THey did. Not these exact ones, but there were some ones that were released back in 1991 on the Just For The Record... box set. And they were done like you suggested: The 60s were covered on disks 1-2, The 70s were on disc 3 and the 80s were disc 4. The only difference is there were only 5 - 6 songs covered on the box set, this is the whole set she did. The quality is def. good enough to release...just have it remastered or remixed.
this is absolutely amazing. I don't know how you found this? I am sitting here in awe as I listen to this. This is the first time I have ever heard Barbra do "I Had Myself a True Love." live. Wow, what a religious experience. How do you download. I wish you could get the Ed Sullivan appearances! Thank you so much for sharing. I love your line about the spotlight; so true. Tapking30
It's amazing that she had no training and really had no idea how phenomenal she was! That's hard to believe! No one can match that voice! I do imagine that Cis Corman and her husband were blown away. I would have been, too. Thank you for posting these rare early performances. I simply love watching them.
Gorgeous...I have to look though my albums cause I know I have a bootleg album of some nightclub stuff she did early on...maybe it is this?? So pure sounding...and unaffected...
I know the box set Just for the Record contains live performances from the Bon Soir that were recorded for Barbra's first album. But since recordings were made on three different nights this video contains different performances, not included on box set. Great to hear even more from her Bon Soir nightclub act!
WOW WOW WOW....Thanks so much for posting this. Something about early Barbras recordings have enormous appeal to me. Perhaps because they seem to be simpler in nature? I dont know. The talent is ALWAYS there thats for sure. What a wonderful treat you have provided us. She is to me the ultimate female vocalist.
One word. . . breathtaking! In my 43 years of being a BJS fan, I've NEVER heard this before. I was thrilled and as giddy as a yeshiva girl to have come across it!!! A million thanks!!!
Wow!! This is really amazing. I haven't been 'surfing' Barbra for a while. I do need to know how to download. I am saving the URL's but, if they're deleted, so are my links. I just LOVE these early performances. Plus, your photos are magnificent and so unique. Thanks so much for allowing us to hear this rare audio with such great sound. Amazing!!!!!
I knew Columbia Records recorded the Bon Soir sessions but never Thought I would have the chance to listen to them! I just can't believe my ears, this is historical!
Thank you SO much for this treasure! I was not even born in 1962 but I miss "this" Barbra.......I think we missed her somewhere between 1967-1969 right when her film career took off.
Thank you so much!!!! People, is it just me or everyone gets watery eyes eveytime you hear this?
