Good on you! I agree. See my song "Say No To Plastic Bags".. When I walk down the street and see shoppers carrying all their plastic bags I either stare at the bags as if to say " Why are you using those bags?" or I approach them with a gentle request to think about the effects the bags have on our wildlife and the environment. Most people listen and accept the fact that the plastic bags do pollute and there are alternatives.
I've been using cloth bags for the last 3 years and I love them. I'm from a very small town and when I first started using them people looked at me as if I were crazy but now I'm in fashion. Now I'm the rule and not the exception. Glad to hear you endorse cloth compared to plastic or paper. LET"S SAVE THIS WORLD ONE BAG AT A TIME. NO PLASTIC.
Considering how much fabric is used in the bags, and the cost to ship them to market, how much of that dollar goes to the laborer who sews the bag? Aren't we supporting exploitation by buying these bags?
Wouldn't we be better just burning our plastic bags instead of sending them to the landfill? That's what I do. It smells a bit, but I figure that if I live 100 years I still won't match the toxic output of one corporation in one day. And I won't pay a slavemaster either.
I love these....Ours are mostly black...The insulated ones are the bomb!....These bags don't look very sturdy when you first see them or like they hold much but let me tell you they're GREAT!!!
i have been off plastic bags for a couple of yrs now...when my family and i go to the store we use canvas bags like that,,,they are sturdy, last forever, and if one gets lost somewhere in mother nature, they are biodegradable /// it's funny how we have come full circle on this... i remember well when the enviromentalist were pushing plastic so we would quit cutting down trees,,, and now you almost can't go anywhere without seeing plastic bags loose all over the place
in england supermarkets have started to charge 5p per plastic bag in an attempt to put people off using them, some shops have banned them all together. in regard to battery farming; i think free range is a nice idea but in this country the poor can't afford free range prices and they need to be thought of - there is a reason why environmentalists tend to be middle class.
That's a great idea! I don't understand why stores where I live don't see that they are losing money on plastic bags! They encourage packagers to use as many bags as possible (they use flimsy bags that hold lil), and to not let people get away without a plastic bag! I think it's bc they think it's a way to keep tabs on shoplifters. So if you get away without a plastic bag, you're a suspect for shoplifting! But, heck, if they bother me about being a shoplifter, I just show them the RECEIPT! LOL
For many years now, I carry my purchases only in my backpack.
Funny thing, I shop at Juarez Mexico, and at El Paso, Texas, and store clerks always look at me funny when I don't want plastic bags. In Mexico, the packaging clerks explain to me that I have to accept plastic bags by store policy.
Sometimes I stand my ground and don't take the bags, sometimes I just let them bag it all, and then I take my stuff out of their bags and place it into my backpack and return their bags to them. LOL!
I had a similar problem with a Subway on highway 35 near Italy, TX. They were REQUIRED to put one sandwich per plastic bag, even after I told him not to. He said he had to. I took them out of the bag and handed the bag back and he just threw it away! grrr. I called them and complained, but I think I will email them too. Nothing makes me more mad than when employees are required to destroy the planet unessisarily.
Good on you. My song Say no to Plastic Bags reflects your talk...a bit of satire and humour may get through to the many plastic bag users?gas

The 5 cent charge for plastic bags is starting here in Spain too. Some places are going to ban them soon.
