Oh yes this is a doddle!, Lets try it in the North Sea where the temperature would freeze your 'hangy downy' bits off and the waves are higher than a multi story building. If a chopper goes down in the sea here, it's going down big time !
I am about to go through this training myself, great video. Gives me an idea, bit worried, but am sure once they show me what to do I should stroll through it. As for a real life situation, helicopters are just as safe as getting in the back of a taxi.
yeah well, my point of view is that all these people are really naive, how's going to survive a helicopter crash in the middle of the ocean, I mean the gulf of mexico is fine, but 7 degrees cold water on the black sea?? not much hope on that
Your obviously not aware that most of the time you will wear an immersion suit if the sea water is below a certain temperature, and with modern day radar / EPIRB and SART's makes finding ditched helicopters pretty easy and quick.
All this training is about is keeping your cool should you manage to stay conscious in a heli crash into the ocean. As for surviving 7 degree water, it's entirely up to an individual's fitness and mental strength. All this training does is get them past the initial crash - assuming they don't black out.
@gecotony, well, you have to wear an attractive bright orange dry suit which gives you some limited protection for a while from the cold sea, and it all depends on how the chopper lands in the water which actually determines your survival chances, engine failure, they can coast down and make a controlled landing, gearbox failure however would be terminal.
would i have to pay for this myself if i wanted to apply for a job on a rig,or is the training supplied by the 'company' after they have offered you(me) a job?
heh :-) I also filmed their fire safety one where you go through the smoke room. I thought that was more practical than the soft dunk in the pool. Seriously, you're either going to die in the impact, drown, get eaten by sharks, or if you manage to still survive.... freeze to death in the north sea.
the offshore industry is full of backstabbing arseholes i made a vow never to return to the north sea after dec 2004...anyway...a brief message to ALL north sea oil workers FUCK YOU ALL.

Just did the course myself! Laura really helped me through it! And yes, the food is pretty good. I needed a good dinner to get me through all that!
