From listening it sounds like your holding the tone out a little longer with the shoulder rest. Maybe it's because you're more warmed up? One size does not fit all. Everybody is different. Good teachers are aware of this. BTW they all sounded really good.
@pandoraefretum about the VLM ur violin sounds better not because u feel comfortable imho, it's because VLM produces a better sound on ur violin. have u tried artino sound? it's similar like VLM, made of either rosewood and maple with 2 resonance holes. I've heard it produces better sound on ur violin, too (i've bought it but haven't received it at home, still waiting)
This might be a stupid question, but when shopping around for shoulder rests I'm confused about the measurements that are given. They can be sold as 4/4, 3/4, 1/2, 1/4 etc. What do these numbers mean and how can I tell which one is accurate for my violin?
Hello Roland! Could you please tell a bit more about having the violin resting on the collarbone. Does it need that I should get the proper chinrest (in term of height) for keeping the contact at chin AND the collarbone before to adjust a shoulder rest?
Great comparison! 100% true when you are talking about the freedom at the beginning while demonstrating "Playonair". I've made right the same conclusions for myself. It's absolutely much better sound with the correct perception of the performer and as a result very natural and stylistically rightly feeling interpretation with the clearest understanding of phrasing. For me, I prefer a small diameter pad of the height of the shoulder rest that I was playing with before.
Thank you sooo much! I absolutely love my Kun Bravo its he best shoulder rest i have ever bought! i went through a few as well! Thank you for your help =)
This little detail might interest you as an Australian. The 'play on air' was invented by Richard Goldner who lived in Sydney. It is an Australian invention. May be it is produced these days in the USA.

Here's a good suggestion. Don't use one.

I forgot that one... It's Swedish.. and I dare say has its followers. I haven't tried one, but I may have had a student with one in the past.

Your excersise was reminiscent of 'waltzing matilda' and what was the rest that you did like ... the one you talked about second last ?

Very good information, was interested in buying a shoulder rest to support playing for hours.
