@riddlaakaklu Sorry but no, they aren't. They all have to register but the registry lumps them into different tiers based on dangerousness (1-3) and also gives the crime they were convicted of. Low-tier sex offenders often only have to register for a term of years (whereas many high-tier offenders must register for life). The registry should be more specific, but the law DOES differentiate between low level and high lever offenders.

Here in Louisiana consensual sex with an underage girl is called "Felony Carnal Knowledge" and carries a max of 10 years (most get MUCH less). Forcible Rape carries up to 40 years and Aggravated Rape life without parole. I'm not saying the laws are totally fair, just that it is inaccurate to say "all offenders are lumped into the same category"

Last year my 42YO sister started dating a guy she met online. Through a Police contact I found out he was on a Sex Offenders Register (& she has a 9YO kid)- so I got rid of him by posting flyers ‘advertising’ his past to all her neighbours. He fled to start a new life somewhere else.

I loathe sex offenders, particularly child molesters, but I worry that some may be truly innocent.
Frequently, I have heard or read about men wrongfully accused of sex crimes by bitter ex wives during divorce proceedings. Also, I believe if one takes a piss behind a bush(such as at an outdoor party) and is seen by a child then he can be charged with indecent exposure.
On the flip side, the rich sex offenders can hire top legal defense and get away with many crimes. Sad but true.

@riddlaakaklu Sorry but no, they aren't. They all have to register but the registry lumps them into different tiers based on dangerousness (1-3) and also gives the crime they were convicted of. Low-tier sex offenders often only have to register for a term of years (whereas many high-tier offenders must register for life). The registry should be more specific, but the law DOES differentiate between low level and high lever offenders.

Here in Louisiana consensual sex with an underage girl is called "Felony Carnal Knowledge" and carries a max of 10 years (most get MUCH less). Forcible Rape carries up to 40 years and Aggravated Rape life without parole. I'm not saying the laws are totally fair, just that it is inaccurate to say "all offenders are lumped into the same category"

There are some High risk Sex Offenders who don't have to register for life. Again, AGE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE RISK LEVEL. NEITHER DOES THE CHARGE. People in Society don't always seperate the different forms of Sex Offender. They tend to lump them all up into 1 catagory, regardless of the circumstances. Thats just how people are.

A judge up in Vermont awhile back gave a guy 60 DAYS in jail for molesting a small child because he believed the "man" needed treatment instead of punishment. A judge in I believe Oklahoma signed off on a plea deal giving a man 1 year in jail for rape on a 4 year old.

@riddlaakaklu Because we cannot trust judges (read: judicial tyrants) we make LAWS which tie the hands of the judges. For instance, in Louisiana it is Aggravated Rape to have sex with someone under the age of 13. Aggravated Rape carries a mandatory life sentence, no parole. Such laws make sure that no matter how bleeding heart stupid a judge is, he has NO CHOICE but to follow the law and render a just sentence when the verdict comes back guilty.
