Sorry, but the Dead was THE best rock band. I don't think any other band matched them in terms of sheer talent, perseverance and a couageous willingness to experiment with different music, whether it be acid rock, bluegrass, or whatever came into their heads to try. There will never be another band like that one.
I like how at 1:55 the chick behind Jerry looks at her watch and then scratches her head. She acts like she is bored out of her fucking mind. Who are you lady?
I was there 19 years ago this week.Took my baby girl Jennie she was just 6 then. For months we said SAY FREE CONCERT she doesnt remember much from back but this concert, this special time for me and her, that she always remembers.History being made and being a part of something bigger. There was and always will be only one Bill Graham Concert Promoter Extrodanaire. What would the SF music scence have been without him. RIP Bill
who is the woman behind them with sunglasses? she's killin me. i was at this show. everyone was raw. like cryin'. Fuck. Bill Graham died. ...this was so bitter sweet and appropriate. The Dead were extremely tight for 4 in the afternoon. peace, Bruce
Great show and good memories except for afterwards when i went to Haight St. and got busted for selling the Kind. But yeah great song and such a great show. I need to find the CCR songs they did with Fogerty , with a lucky John Popper on harmonica. I sure miss jerry.
makes me want to cry sometimes others just smile smile smile when i started touring (1990) glad i made this one still can feel the love of my fellow heads much love to you all R.I.P JERRY
I am from the Heartland of America, can't beat it with a stick. Peace Forever!! Ask unc Duck and his amiigo ELVIS!! Duck you Suckers, the eagle is on the move!!
there will never be another guitarist of his stature again ever. his style unreplaceable. hey there was a black peter video, 1990 was the best on titodead site, has been fking cut to 1 min. and some change, why??? it truly showed jerry at his best for that jam and they fking cut it. anyone know what im saying and missing??
Is that Mountain Girl seen behind Jerry at times, in the black leather jacket?....the good news about this show is that Bobby was in Jeans instead of Daisy Dukes!
Yeah Bobby looked so much better when he wasn't wearing Hot Pants. The whole band looks great and is playing great in this video. Once 93 and 94 came along Jerry's aged 10 years in 24 months.
the most haunting darsktar ever...it was at Oakland Coliseum on Halloween..10-31-91! It gave me goosebumbs then, and still does just thinking about it....Kesey came out dressed as a jester during the jamm in Darkstar and did a eulogy for Bill Graham...it was a poem with a quote in it from EE Cummings....i will never forget it, and i was sooooo high.......what a night!
I was there that day. I looked overhead and there was a plane with "Otis Spunkmeyer" (cookies) written on the underside of the wings. As I looked up, I saw objects raining down. I thought, " They can't be dropping cookies out of the plane!" They weren't. Coming down, seemingly in slow motion, were what must have been thousands of clipped red carnation flowers. All just floating down. I think that it was about the most beautiful thing I have ever seen.
makes me want to cry sometimes others just smile smile smile when i started touring (1990) glad i made this one still can feel the love of my fellow heads much love to you all R.I.P JERRY
It's like church when they get to the middle of the song. All quiet and scared as they sing about getting back on my feet again....I am still awestruck at how reverent this sounds!
Hey rajneesh, Those are the blood suckers who lived off the Dead. The same ones who had to pay their morgeges(I know I spelled it wrong) At the expense of Garcia's blood, sweat and health! he could'nt take that summer off because of that. That's why he's dead, in the end the blood sucking hanger ons killed him!
@MrSharkey11 dude he died of a overdose of heroin at Serenity Knolls and now they do not take people on drug detox! They let him leave and he and his bitch wife went to dinner were he scored and returned and died befor he lefet the property.
@MrSharkey11 ...unfotunately, it's true...he had a loose program @ The Knolls since he was such a frequent visitor there and wrote enormously large checks to them...
@MrSharkey11 hey man some people drive the bus n some of em are just along for the ride but either way theyre still riding together in the same direction
WMG must die. They have destroyed more play lists than all the other major labels combined. No wonder I listen to music on Chhanda Dhara, Membran, Audiopharm, High Note, Egrem, Venus, Super Cassettes Industries Ltd., Naxos, PlayaSound, Ocora, Recording Arts, King, Chandos, and many other labels that do not have a fetish about proprietary rights. I bought $327 worth of Grateful Dead and Doors music last year after listening to the old tunes on youtube, but WMG won't get another peso from me.
@q73174 I have the full movie of this performance and I believe directly before this song John Fogerty came out and played two tunes, so I truly believe that is his marshall stack.
That makes that interview interesting to me and my posts are my points of view, however they are educated points of view and my intentions are always positive! I want people to laugh and learn and if I think I can help people do that I will do my best! I think Jerry was talking about the song helping to inspire people with addictions to alcohol or drugs, and the ironic twist as that they are both drugs anyways!!! God bless all who fight that fight everyday and aren't in denial! GET A NEW START..
That some other fucker is: the guy that wrecks his car, hopefully not in a drunk driving, gets in trouble with the law, ruins his or her marriage, or in any way does something under the influence that he has spent his sober half paying the consequences of...that some other fucker is the addicts in us that we don't even know. or want to know! We wake up in jail or whatever it may be and struggle with dealing with some other fuckers crime/problem.Deadheads AA members=Wharfrats
WOW! ...lol That would not surprise me that he said that having me so baffled on how to answere it properly! Put simply it represents the struggle that Alcoholics and drug addicts are faced with when something they do while under the influence, affects and misrepresents the person they are when they are sober and or clear headed. The song explains the conflict addicts have with wanting to " get up and fly away " from the disease simply because they are sick of paying for some other F'rs crime!!
I was there, happened to be in SF that week, met the crew & Bill's son David & got myself a photo pass and some great stage shots. Awesome show, great weather, superb memorial.
This may very well be my favorite Wharf Rat ever...and they don't even finish it, they go into a cool Sunshine Daydream. As Jerry aged, his raspy voice really lent itself to great renditions of it.
I was there too. Yeah, they didn't finish it...you can hear at the end Phil and the drums are heading into Box of Rain...Bobby jumps over toward Sunshine Daydream...Conflicting muses. It was weird enough to open a memorial show with Hell in a Bucket ("There may come a day I will dance on your grave, if unable to dance, I will crawl across it..."), but you can hear Bobby teasing Victim before the opener...fkn tough, BW. What an AMAZING day, life memory!
My favorite Dead song....especially in the summertime. Nothing better than listening to this on a summer day with nothing to do but listen to The Dead all day and party all night.
Vince does sound really good. Sometimes when they let him just play piano... he sounded good, I found out, it was not his fault he had to play those awful casio sounds. Let me add this, Vince was one of the kindest dudes around and he was a hell of a guy, I miss him.
this is withouta doubt a smokin wharf rat for 91...seems to be a very different mournful/beautiful vibe to this show, the boys really playin dey hearts out for uncle Bobo
this is seriously good . . this is the shit. garcia sounds fantastic. licks he plays in the last few breaks are the real deal. long live the great jerry G!
