Sorry, but the Dead was THE best rock band. I don't think any other band matched them in terms of sheer talent, perseverance and a couageous willingness to experiment with different music, whether it be acid rock, bluegrass, or whatever came into their heads to try. There will never be another band like that one.

I was there 19 years ago this week.Took my baby girl Jennie she was just 6 then.For months we said SAY FREE CONCERT she doesnt remember much from back but this concert, this special time for me and her, that she always remembers.History being made and being a part of something bigger. the most haunting darsktar ever...it was at Oakland Coliseum on Halloween..10-31-91! It gave me goosebumbs then, and still does just thinking about it....Kesey came out dressed as a jester during the jamm in Darkstar and did a eulogy for Bill Graham...it was a poem with a quote in it from EE Cummings....i will never forget it, and i was sooooo high.......what a night!

WOW! ...lol That would not surprise me that he said that having me so baffled on how to answere it properly! Put simply it represents the struggle that Alcoholics and drug addicts are faced with when something they do while under the influence, affects and misrepresents the person they are when they are sober and or clear headed. The song explains the conflict addicts have with wanting to " get up and fly away " from the disease simply because they are sick of paying for some other F'rs crime!!

This may very well be my favorite Wharf Rat ever...and they don't even finish it, they go into a cool Sunshine Daydream. As Jerry aged, his raspy voice really lent itself to great renditions of it.

I was there too. Yeah, they didn't finish it...you can hear at the end Phil and the drums are heading into Box of Rain...Bobby jumps over toward Sunshine Daydream...Conflicting muses. It was weird enough to open a memorial show with Hell in a Bucket ("There may come a day I will dance on your grave, if unable to dance, I will crawl across it..."), but you can hear Bobby teasing Victim before the opener...fkn tough, BW. What an AMAZING day, life memory!
