  • Wat if you hv a 3.66 version PS3

  • is it legal

  • can i still do this despite the psn being down and the whole geoholts drama?

  • The link doesn't work anymore... what should i do?

  • @carl7lamoureux yeah doesnt work for me neither, how annoying!

  • can this mess up your ps3 at all?

  • @carl7lamoureux :

there are many factors involved, and i can't say for sure if this will harm your own ps3. i DO know that the developers of these cfw have taken many pains to make sure that this will not brick your system. also, i haven't had a single report yet of this causing harm to any systems.

  • Dear bros

  • THIS IS DEFINENTLY WHAT I WANTED THANX MAN!

  • My friend has a ps3 and he has alot of dlc can he still access it if he does???

  • @adamrocks133 :

with this cfw and sony's new update, 3.56 your friend will still be able to access his previously purchased and downloaded dlc, but he will NOT be able to access the online portion of any games or the psstore to buy more dlc.

  • It says a file is corrupted, can somebody tell me what to do.

  • @JordanMeAwesome :

what is your firmware version? this jb only works on 3.55 and earlier.

  • @ThriftStoreTalent its 3.41

  • @JordanMeAwesome :

you can update to 3.55 by storage media and then do the jb. you wont have any problems then. just dont update to 3.56, and you'll be okay.

  • thank you it worked perfectly.. but how I do save the game?

like how the states? also.. is there a way to just exit back to my games list? thanks.. Cuzz right not I just press the ps button and exit the program and rerun it..

  • @CrazyDuck4u :

glad to help. check the other comments. i posted about saves and exiting to game selection.

  • Does the PS3 need a jailbreak in order for this to work or is installing the CFW enough? Does it work on the 3.56 version FW?

  • @AlexBurgess :

this IS a jailbreak. if you updated to 3.56, you are screwed until another hack is released

  • @ThriftStoreTalent

Damn. Well, I was under the imrpession that only old versions of FW can be jailbroken. That explains the .zip file being named "jailbreak" :D

I really wanted to play SNES games on my PS3, but I don't want to jailbreak my console... well not just yet, I don't feel comfortable. Stil a great tutorial, though, explained really nicely!

    Tnx for the reply.

  • @ThriftStoreTalent You can always restore your ps3 back to default. That is what I am going to do with my old ps3 that cant read ps3 discs anymore, it is going to become an offline retromachine

  • ive done everything but it will not recognize the snes file? earlier i did the firmware thing so i can play back up ps3 games could that be the problem? i installed this firmware and it worked but when i try to install the snes file nothing shows up? please help

  • @uptothetimezdotcom :

many people have had the same problem, and they have solved it by placing the snes9x pkg in the ROOT DIRECTORY of the storage device, instead of in a subfolder. try that and post your results for others.

  • @ThriftStoreTalent ty this worked! where would i save the games tho any ideas?

  • @uptothetimezdotcom :

np, friend. the games can go anywhere, but make it easy to find, because you'll have to navigate to them each time you play. also, make sure that the game files have the extension SMC, SFC, SWC, or FIG.... otherwise, snes9x won't recognize it and will give you a black screen. i say this because the main rom torrent floating around has all of them labeled FILE extension.

if they aren't labeled correctly just go into DOS and rename them with a *.smc command.

  • oh also how did you go back to the game menu from the game like that?

  • how do we save and load states? and is there a way to enter cheats? i've got snes9x running on my ps3 on firmware 3.55 already. just wondering about these 2 things.

  • @rascal3001 :

there's a README file in the snes9x folder that you downloaded. it has many helpful hints.

    SAVE: R3 + R2

    LOAD: R3 + L2

be careful not to confuse these two. it can be very annoying when you're about to fight bowser and that flying clown bowl, and then you accidentally load ghost house #3.

there's more info on the cheats in the README that i mentioned earlier. check it out.

EXIT TO GAME SELECTION SCREEN: L3 + R3

    enjoy ;)

  • @ThriftStoreTalent thanks a lott. very helpful =). I didn't have the readme because i used another video to get snes on my ps3 but now i got it. thanks.

  • if my ps3 was dissconected from the internet when i installed the cfw and then i decide to reinstall ofw the reconnect to internet can sony find out that i had cfw on my ps3 plzzzzz i need answer to this

  • @lawtownisatown :

you have a file called boot_history.dat that logs very sensitive information on what you've been doing with your ps3. if sony got their hands on that info, they might be dix about it.

lucky for you, a few days ago, this was released. ps3-hacks(dot)com/download(dot)php?id=271

it's an app that deletes the boot_history.dat file, so that there's no way that sony can find out about your ongoings.

  • Can you tell me how to uninstall geohotz CFW on ps3 slim?

  • @epExiLeD1 :

you just update to the official firmware and the cfw is no longer installed.

  • Also noticed someone had Doom on there ps3 somehow it was this video.. /watch?v=pGeF_b3PyYo

anyway u know how to get that on would be great :D

  • @jeffd52000 :

about to post the vid for Sega Genesis. i'll post for doom if i get some time tonight.

  • @ThriftStoreTalent please help! lol

  • ABSOLUTELY love this tutorial video, it's simple clear, high quality, u explain it all nice and clear with no 3 year old voice or shaky camera and thank god you don't have some stupid music in the back ground like many others.

I would love it if u knew how to get the Sega Genesis going i see a few videos online but none with clear links to get files.. Any help on that would be great... (after genesis N64 would be awesome but i don't think that's available yet.)

  • UPDATE:

after this custom firmware, i am still able to connect to PSN and play my multiplayer games online. tested with CoD:Black Ops, and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood

  • I take that back you have to make sure there are no other package files on the drive u have to have the right one and it must be in the root directory of the storage drive, i finally got it working lol

  • It all worked up until the install of the SNES it did not find it in the *Install Paackage Files?

  • @jeffd52000 same here except it found it but when i click on it it says error occurred during the downlaod operation

  • @TheyCallMeTaters :

i take it you are getting the error code (80029564) with this message. that error is usually because of a corrupted file, or missing information from the file.

try this: make sure that your ps3 is NOT connected to the interweb. wipe the files from your storage device and retransfer the data over again. reupdate your ps3 with the 3.55 OFW from SONY. then reinstall the CFW and SNES emulator.

please post your results. this may help someone else with the same problem.

  • what's the risk of hacking your ps3

  • @chemo820 :

as of now, the only risk is bricking it. but this seems to have worked for nearly everyone, and the ones that it hasn't worked for said that it just didn't install right and the ps3 restarted normally.

  • @chemo820 nothing, its your property you can do what u want with it, downloading games for free is illegal if the games u have on the emulator you own its not illegal but if u dont it kinda is

  • @dRbasicc :

yeah. TECHNICALLY. but since nintendo doesn't make any money on those games anymore, i don't see the harm in getting your favorite games online. :) but i'm no lawyer.

  • @ThriftStoreTalent that is a good point! lol im so getting this now :)

  • where do i put the roms on the memory stick?

  • @irod12313 :

it isn't critical to the program working where you place the roms. just make them easy for you to find. i do mine like this: ROOT DIRECTORY>PS3>ROMS>[rom files here].

when you run snes9x, you'll need to select the directory named "dev_usb000*" or something similar, and that will take you to your storage device's root directory where you can select the path to your roms.
