It is a strategic war game from the viewpoint of the intelligence rather then the soldiers (e.g. Halo) You have to be very smart to succeed, and since it happens in real time, speed dexterity and reflexes are also requirements. And yes, Starcraft has the largest fanbase of any e-sport in the world. The most money in prizes are given for Starcraft, and the most views of any competitive video game.

@AnonymousDOOD1 No, because every stategy has some counter. If they scout what you're doing, they'll counter you. If you're doing the same thing, then it's all unit control and planning. It's very, very naunced. There is no singular "winning strategy". It might've looked repetitive at MLG Anaheim because so many of the finalists were Terran, though. TvT is pretty boring, IMO.

@AnonymousDOOD1 No, it's similar to chess. You can't have a winning strategy because if you play one way and your opponent makes the right moves, you get completely hard countered. You have to be constantly making the right decisions on what to build and when or else you can lose a game, even with a skill advantage. Then there's micro control on the individual units which is a whole new ballgame.

@AnonymousDOOD1 Well, each race has completely different building mechanics. You can use these things to your advantage in certain ways, yea. Although, in terms of combat, you don't really exploit the qualities of the buildings as often as you need to deal with the opponents army. Each race has 1 direct damage building as well that can help keep units from sneaking in, but this game is majorly about unit control and unit composition in the armies you build to determine the winner.

@AnonymousDOOD1 No, especially since it's often Best of 3 games, so if you go for the same strategy, at Game 2 the guy will know how you played it, at which timings, etc etc, there is a lot of mind games involved, which makes it way better than some "ok I'll do this like usual and see if i win", it is very rare to see similar games, even on a huge series
