i wish i could study the traditional krav maga here in the us, unfortunately i cant find it, i dont think it even exist here, only watered down versions of it are offered wich i have taken a lesson of but its not the same.
see vs gun at about 02:00...i saw an israeli guy teaching brittish police about the same technique, although he did move his body to the left at the same time while grabbing the gun with left hand as you did in this movie, and he explained it as necessary to avoid eventuall gunfiring to hit you. as ive heard krav maga is constantly updating its techniques, is this something that has been removed?
Great movie. this is real Israeli Krav Maga. remember that what u see here is just the training so it's just the small piece of IKM. They are the best! best regards fof Hayim Gidon, Yigal, Kris, Steve and all IKMA instructors!!!
@forsubmoves That may be, but I've got 50 bucks saying if you give both opponents a knife and say "kill each other" that he will be the one left standing, and which situation is more important?
very good tactics-my question is this:why dont IKMA show tactics for older persons- i teach self defense and some of my students are 55 years old or more- i do not teach any high kicks at all-just knees /stomping-spike kick to groin- thanks whitewolf
krav maga is a martial art for it takes all aspects and applies them to real life and at realistic speeds, also krav maga is differnt form that of other arts for training against group attack is key.
You can use them to slap enemys arm down, stick fingers into eyes, grap the head etc pp. Interesting that everybody thinks he knows better all stuff about fighting. Maybe you should learn the Military YOUR stile of fighting cause you are so good. Nobody knows you, but you must be the best. This works and still grows since 1910 i think. But YOU will it know better.LOL
So copying and rebranding Martial art, isnt martial art? Pls be quite.
Taking the usefull stuff of any system is only the most intelligent way to create a fighting system, that will work everywhere and whithout rules. On the street, there are nor rules. And i would be glad to know KM instead of maybe Karate in such situations;)
Hey socks...Martial arts are not limited to flashy styles that don't work in real life situations. There is something to be said for the skill, beauty, and technique of a graceful style such as Thai Kwan Do, but the effective kicks and punches in all styles have been taken from flashy to effective. It is no longer about graceful art and mystic teachings; it is brutal science and quick and effective violence to deliver devastating blows and that his how a fight is won. Krav Maga is brutal!
open handed slaps are not devastating blows. and this video showed plenty of "flashy" kicks that probably wouldnt be useful in a street fight. most of the armlocks/disarming techniques look like those taught in akido or hapkido. i don't see how this is a "new" martial "art." it appears to be techniques collected from other martial arts and relabeled as krav maga.
If you mean that kicking high is flashy probably you dont see to much fights...they are as usueful as ground fight, the key point is when, how and IF you can do them, thats what real krav maga teaches. About the armlocks do you say that the arm locks from Jiu-jitsu are the same used in Sambo? Well, they are, is that bad? I don´t think so...if it works we use them.
Krav Maga is a mix of martial arts. It is everything that works. If it works than it is krav Maga because it incorporates everything that works now about the high kicks i would not do those in the street that is true but you actually need to learn them because it s good to know. Now the disarming are not taken from any other arts. It is basic military defense. We actually use many techniques comming from other style but the only one that works even look at the name Krav Maga it means self defens
I have a Krav Maga school in my city but I'm wondering if it is really worth it. Would it be considered the top self-defense martial art in the world? If I were to spar/defend myself against a TKD or Karate student, would I be able to come out on top?
of course u d beat a tkd or karate student. I did a few years of tkd and really its useless on streets. You learn too much useless moves and its not adapted for the field. If u want to learn to defend yourself go for Krav Maga or Close Combat.
It seems like a really effective system against an everyday attacker..but i am quite skeptical about how effective it would be against an experienced opponent..
You know, someone who wouldn't attack with a knife with his hand streched to the sky or against someone who knows how to keep his distance with a gun..
Again, i believe it is a great system, i am just qurious about how far can you get with it when it comes to defending yourself..
TKD is competition so if you are competing you re not gonna win because of the rules now in the street you will probably kill him because that is what krav maga is. You learn to finish someone and defend yourself by doing nasty moves which aren t allow in competition. but krav is a CQC combat like others. It is effective but i recommend you to take Jiu Jitsu or other grabbling on the ground with Krav to be a bad ass
He is the dan 8 master of all the masters and the first guy on earth who has been given the dan 8 by Imi. You don t want to fuck with any of those guys who are learning Krav Maga
We are the original Krav Maga the . Founded in 1978, decades before any other Krav Maga association, the IKMA was the first such association to be recognized by the Israeli Government.
Future Comment: I wish I knew Krav Maga, then I'd be prepared for any random physical attack if I had to use it, plus I'd be a very dangerous guy to mess with loL! I wouldn't hurt anybody on purpose though that's not me, I'm a very nice guy. Peace!
. Imi appointed his top student, Grandmaster Haim Gidon, to be his successor and to further develop Israeli Krav Maga. Working from Imi's techniques and principles, Grandmaster Gidon has spent nearly two decades developing Krav Maga into its most modern evolution: the Gidon System.
As a 14 year practitioner of KM I can tell you these guys are outstanding. KM never looks pretty in video and it wont give you inner peace or make tea from your chi. What it will do is allow you to snap 99% of grown men like a twig if they want to fight you.
one year only depending on your fighting spirit and the capability of learning. I had some people in my class who can t understand the most simple techniques sometimes. It takes 6 month to one year to be able to get use to it because it is simple
haha , the book is on the table , hahahaha , hahahaha . the book is on the table , hahahaha , de buqui ison de teibou , hahahaha . what is your name? my name is catchup
KRAVMAGAPT says they do heavy full contact sparring well in this video these guys also (instructors): "DEFENDU Program INSTRUKTOR", there isn't a fight with gloves because they were training 2-3 guys on 1, but they do the same thing 1-on-1, max strength with gloves, does this mean they are good?? Take a look at their fighting abilitiers in this video. It is very entertaining, but also sad. People that are not taught to properly fight will never fight well, no matter how much sparring.
Again, this is only my opinion, I think that most of the combat training time should be devoted to standing fighting, which includes projections and sweeps.
One should also not forget to train the ground defending position against a standing opponent.
Since I think that nmiguelrmoura trains with you in IKMA, maybe you can answer the question I puted him:
What are the IKMA's rules for full-contact combats? Whick protections do you use? (mouthpiece, MMA or Boxing gloves, shin protectors,...)
You have a video where I think you are having a nice sparr with Yigal in the ground, but if you take a close look to it, a lot of situations occured when both of you could perform any of the blows I discrebed earlier, and that could easily be applied in a really life situation.
So my opinion regarding ground fighting training, is that it should be trained as we also do it, but should not be the core of our combat training.
2. Sometimes it seems that you only have one opponent, and when you go to the ground, suddenly others appears and you are heavily punished for beeing down. I've seen this happen in a disco fight!
3. Even if you are good fighting in the ground, in my opinion, is very difficult to maneuver without giving opportunity to your opponent to byte you, poke you a eye, violently push your ear and nose, loudly scream next to a ear with a risk of damaging it permanently, etc...
I agree with most of your ideas, and where I train we perform also a lot of standing fighing, throws and some ground fighting.
My personal opinion regarding ground fighting, is that in a real scenario you should always:
1. Avoid the ground
2. Once there, safely leave the ground as soon as possible!
My reasons are as follows:
1. If you are in multiple agression scenario, if you go down with more than 1 opponent active, you'll have no chance, even if you are Rickson Gracie!(cont)
You are absolutely right, the only thing I disagree it´s the importance you give to those 3 steps of a confrontation. You should give the same importance to all of them, combat standing, take downs, and ground. Knowing how to fight in all these situations you will be able to choose the best answer. For example, if your opponent kicks well, close distance, and take him down. And knowing them you will be able to avoid or defend them better. That ´s why in IKMA we train everything.(cont.)
(cont.)Of course you should avoid going to the ground, always, but its proven that if you dont finish the aggression in the first secondsyou are going down...and then, you should know how to work in the ground, with Krav Maga rules, and get up fast. Its the same thing with high kicks, some Organizations dont even do them, they are not effective, they say...they are, if you dont know when and how to use them.
"3. Even if you are good fighting in the ground"... I understand this point of view, because you are thinking that we (IKMA) fight in the ground, with ground fight ruleswe dont. We learn to fight in the ground with street rules, and even having no permanent damage with the take down, you will have it before you can think about biting. Our objective its not submission, its permanent damage and get up fast.
I understand your type of training, and It´s good, but it´s not complete. You are depending too much of your basic instincts (poke, bite, scratch),witch its clearly a self defense approach to the subject, and real fight doesnt work like thatyou bite/he pokes your eyes, you scream/he chokes you, you scratch/he bits your head throw the groundit´s ugly, but its how it issee Rio Heroes fights, do you really think screaming in the ear solves that? Fighting to survive like thatprobably will.
Imi always worried about the safety of the kravist...the partner its like the equipment, you broke it and you can´t be able to train anymore. Depending on what we are doing, we use standard protection equipment: groin protection always, and gloves (grappling mostly), the rest depends on you...
Regarding safety, obviously Imi was right, and we also take it as priority in our training.
But in IKMA, students are never subjected to a Full-Contact combat test, off course with rules concerning safety, like for instance in a grade examination?
Regarding equipment where I train, we use shin pads, MMA gloves, boxing gloves, groin protection, mouth guard (as someone wishes) etc. all depends on what is required for given exercises or sparring. Part of our normal training for intermediate to advance includes light sparring basically during every class with exceptions of course and sparring is only trained for a portion of the class. Full-contact heavy sparring is performed from time to time, since risk of infury is high.
Yes KRAVMAGAPT, but to major things make the difference, first what you call full contact combat, we call light sparring or play fight, and we usually do it as a part of our class. The objective in this exercise its not to hurt our partner but to apply combat principles developed by IKMA regarding timing, continuous motion attack and simultaneous defense/attack that make it different and more effective than a boxing, muay thay or a kickboxing fight for example. (cont.)
(cont.)2ºmajor difference is that usually its not a standing fight only exercise. When doing this kind of training we always pay attention not to get injured, it´s most important to work, but to let my partner work to so we can both learn. The result: 1º you will gradually erase your mistakes in a fight, 2ºyou will see that you will always receive strikes and you will not be safe doing only 1,2, or 3 hits, even to the groin...your agressor could be wearing groin protection...who knows?
"what you call full contact combat, we call light sparring or play fight"...i didn´t mean to say this in a depreciation way, Im just speaking from what I see from FEKM (combate duro) and IKMF. But I can be wrong of course, the point is that you should work as close as possible to the real thing, regarding safety, and learning with it. The intensity of the exercise depends of how far you and your partner can go...
It seems that you use similar principles regarding light sparring in classes, as we use in our training.
When I mean "full contact", I mean no power limitations of strikes during combat and with only a few limitations for safety purposes.
In FEKM these kind of combats are part of belt examinations from green belt and above.
Normally, when you see these fights, you'll see only the students fighting, and a Instructor making sure that the fight fullfills its objectives and safety is preserved.
I know KRAVMAGAPT...they call it "combate duro", but thats a kickboxing fight, no matter what you call it. And why? Because Richard was a kickboxing champion, he never learned ground, or throws, because he thought he was good enough not to go to the ground...they still passed that mistake until a few years agountil everybody proved that the fight ends there. Haim started developing ground curriculum in late 80´s, why? (cont.)
(cont.)Because once a guy from other country came to IKMA and he finished everybody in the groundthats how they learn, with the mistakes, thats how Krav Maga evolves...except to Richard, Yanilov and a few other...that now look for knowledge in jiu-jitsu fighters, kali fighters, etc. Storys about Richard beeing knocked out by 17 year old students in Haim´s gym are still told...usually you learn with that to get better...usually.
OK, first off the no.2 point: "Once there [on the ground], safely leave the ground as soon as possible!" Correct!! In a street fight being on the ground is very dangerous. But you seem to misunderstand a VERY IMPORTANT aspect: getting up after you were taken down by a wrestler, BJJ or sambo fighter is VERY DIFFICULT. Bitting, eye and throat attacks are COMPLIMENTORY to fighting and defending against getting your head pounded into the asphalt by the person attakcing you. (cont.)
Good luck trying to bite him while he is mounted and punching your face with no remorse. KRAVMAGAPT, there is no way you will get up,nevermind safely, without the ability to fight very well on the ground or standing. On the ground as in standing, one punch can mean one knockout, one elbow can mean one knockout. What you wrote is beautiful on paper...not in real life with an adversary that knows what he's doing...you will NEVER learn this until you face someone like that. Theorize all you want...
(cont.)...but combat standing, combat in the ground and throws are a bigger part of our training. Self defense without this sells better, but its not gona work, even if you bite very well. We use gloves and groin protection...but anyone can use a body armour if they want.
In my opinion, the mistake it´s not regarding the application of rules or not in full contact combat. Everybody can bite, scratch, or poke an eye, those are basic instincts. The mistake starts when you only train self defense (standing and in the ground), or combat standing and self defense in the ground, or doing both thinking that you are fighting. Some Krav Maga Organizations do only that, its their approach to Krav Maga. In IKMA we train self-defense too(cont.)
So actually the rules you adopt to train combat, and were I train also, limits a lot of the Krav Maga resources, due to safety reasons.
We all know that in Krav Maga, like in real life, everything goes, so the truth is that you cannot train/perform a lot of this techniques during combat training/combat testing.
What are the rules when you combat full-contact? Whick protections do you use?
what´s the point about getting in a ring match respecting rules that would turn krav maga in something else. That wouldn´t be km, that would be a mma fight, or muay thai.that is why you won´t see a krav maga fighter in a ring because he wouldn´t be able to attack the groin, the neck, eyes, bite, use all the weapons techniques he knows. KM tries to train u to every kind of situation except a ring. And if u train km u should know that.
depends on what you consider rules. we don´t kick full force to the groin and we use protections. We also try not to cause damage to our training mate. But we don´t train to perform. Do u actually practice krav maga? Because u sent me a message defending a km senior instructor, and now u are asking me this question. It is a bit confusing
The video isn't working when i'm posting. So far I do like itay gils tactical krav maga. I train in krav maga btw, I do know a bit about fighting at least. It's like saying japan has the best karate and it's developed there, all karate around the world is shit with your limited view of martial arts. One kick doesn't mean one knock out. No one ever got knocked out with a kick around me during sparring yet. I rather kick lower if I have to kick.
One kick can mean one knockout, and you have to remember that. Karate is not from Japan but China :/ And yes, the most renown karate schools are in Asia. Which doesn't necessarily mean the rest of the schools are bad. Have you noticed you don't do in Ikmf what Itay Gil does? :)
Yes it's not that rough in the IKMF, still I think that's a good way to train. I do spar alot in krav maga at least and i'm sure you do too. I belive krav maga will benefit with more sparring even if they don't like to make it seem like a sport, even try it in competitions. I suppose we can both agree on that sparring is better than demostrations and drills.
Also my point about karate is the same point I want to make about krav maga in israel.
With that point of view you dont need to train at all...just learn how to kick to the groin and to run and you are safe.
And ran nakash teaches simple, but he knows a lot more then he teaches, same thing like Itay. He has done Muay thay and jiu jitsu, and Ran was Muay Thay champion in Israel. They always sell the same Krav Maga technics, and thats ok...in case you dont need to know more. But thats like asking you, if you prefer to be the small or the big fish...some people just like to stay small
I'm tired of seeing that knife kata he always does an no one else does in IKMA. Still the techniques are very good and at a very high level, complicated, however still at a very high level.
Hi again yigal, are you that bald guy? I saw a video that shows other ppl doing that, except it's not that kata that bald guy does, rather it's freestyle knife fighting. To vitomartin08, just because you teach knife fighting doesn't mean I don't know how to, or how to use any other weapons. Your not the only krav maga in the world.
It's nice to meet you, your on all the videos, your sort of famous for the IKMA. I have a question about knife techniques in this video, you added alot of new moves I haven't seen in other krav maga federations and stuff. Is the 360 basic knife defense not enough? Is it outdated to haim? I see alot of arm locks, can anyone learn that? I tried it on bigger inflexible ppl and they don't really always fall. Still imo, Imi had alot of students, even if the IKMA was the original, they are similar.
The organisations are similar to people like yourself "thisismynames" that don't have indepth knowledge. The organisations are fundamentaly different and so are the techniques that you see here. Remember, to untrained eyes, bjj and sambo look alike...
I know the difference between bjj and sambo, I know the difference between the IKMF and IKMA, IKMA = high spinning kicks and fancy knife disarms controlling the arm that doesn't work if your opponent resist.
thisismynames, please, you are starting to sound foolish :) the difference between IKMA and IKMF are spinning kicks and "fancy knife" techniques? Wow, if only the world was as simple as through your eyes :) And I understand that YOU believe and where you come from it is normal that the LOWER ranked students are better than the HIGHER ranked students?? :))) Is that how it is in North America?
Don't put words in my mouth, insulting me doesn't make you any better. Let's see you ppl put together IKMA sparring videos, so your opponent doesn't stand there and do nothing and let the technque work. Unlike the IKMF, you can resist and the technique will still work. That's my challenge to you, let ppl resist these techiques and fight back, it won't work.
no the first and the original foundation is the ikma ikmf foundad later the ikma is foundad in 1978 first and the only one you can rede the history in the ikma websaite
"Isn't IKMF the first and the original foundation?" Dabidabida, I think we already established that it isn't :))) The IKMA was founded in 1978 by Imi Lichtenfeld and co-founded by, among others, Haim Gidon. It was NOT co-founded by Yanilov (he was 19 and by law too young). Yanilov decided to persue his own vision and interpretation of Krav Maga and founded the IKMF in 1994. Imi entrusted Haim to continue his vision of KM, that is what you see in these videos. The continuation of Imi's work.
IKMF is led by Eyal Yanilov , the KM founder's right hand for over 15 years, the only person holding KM highest level and Founder's Diploma of Excellence.
Is what stands on the home page. I've been talking to some people and I now doubt that this is a lie.
Yanilov was Imi's right hand for 15 years? What does that even mean? GM Haim Gidon was Imi's student for 28 years and was chosen BY IMI to be his successor and continue his vision of KM. Why didn't Imi choose his "right hand"??? :))) Yanilov holding KM highest level? Yes, in YANILOV'S ORGANISATION. Not in Imi Lichtenfeld's organisation IKMA. :) Which is shown by legal documents. What is a "Founder's Diploma of Excellence?" :))) What expertise does he have thanks to that? ;)))
Look, Yanilov is doing his thing, he founded his organisation and I wish him all the best. But why does he have to lie to people that he is some amazing guru/master/lord of Krav Maga? He left IKMA while Imi was still alive and established his own organisation. If he was Imi's top student he would be Grandmaster, but he wasn't and he isn't.
IF Yanilov had the same vision and interpretation of Krav Maga as its founder Imi Lichtenfeld, he would be representing IKMA today, but he's not, instead he puts up certificates and diplomas trying to show everybody he is the best in the world... top student of Imi! YET IMI did NOT choose Yanilov, IMI chose the student that he believed was the best, he chose Grandmaster Haim Gidon. Just think for yourselves everybody, Yanilov is trying o play down this fact which is very unfair to IMI and Haim!!
I agree with you, I meant I saw him training with IMI in those books and he brought it to europe, he deserves the diploma of excellence, what has the IKMA done lately except to show ppl fancy demos that doesn't work against a resisting opponent. Btw I also take krav maga, I think Eyal is good and the krav maga that imi intend. I meant big deal if haim gideon was the highest rank, doesn't mean that's imi's vision, only isreali's version.
What do you mean it doesn't mean that it's Imi's vision?? Yanilov left IMI LICHTENFELD and the organisation that IMI founded WHEN IMI WAS STILL ALIVE! Meaning he left Imi to persue his own vision of KM... Why didn't he represent IKMA in Europe if he shared Imi's principles and vision?? Tell me thisismynames, why didn't he represent Imi Lichtenfeld when he introduced KM to Europe??
Nobody around the world cares about the IKMA, it's only exclusive to your organisation. If it wasn't for other students bring it worldwide, no one would care. The IKMA can train and call haim gideon the best for all I care, I still think IMI is the grandmaster, have fun with your demostrations. You'll be destroyed by MMA fighters practicing demos.

"open handed slaps are not devastating blows"
You can use them to slap enemys arm down, stick fingers into eyes, grap the head etc pp. Interesting that everybody thinks he knows better all stuff about fighting. Maybe you should learn the Military YOUR stile of fighting cause you are so good. Nobody knows you, but you must be the best. This works and still grows since 1910 i think. But YOU will it know better.LOL

Krav Maga is brutal!
fishguru73 2 years ago
open handed slaps are not devastating blows. and this video showed plenty of "flashy" kicks that probably wouldnt be useful in a street fight. most of the armlocks/disarming techniques look like those taught in akido or hapkido. i don't see how this is a "new" martial "art." it appears to be techniques collected from other martial arts and relabeled as krav maga.
brandnamesocks 2 years ago

TheDevilmaycry128 1 year ago
How is this not a martial art if it's copying other martial arts?
Krav Maga, like Jeet Kune Do and Street Survival etc. try to combine the best from other martial arts to create one effective form of self-defense.

I have a Krav Maga school in my city but I'm wondering if it is really worth it. Would it be considered the top self-defense martial art in the world? If I were to spar/defend myself against a TKD or Karate student, would I be able to come out on top?
generalsaam 2 years ago
of course u d beat a tkd or karate student. I did a few years of tkd and really its useless on streets. You learn too much useless moves and its not adapted for the field. If u want to learn to defend yourself go for Krav Maga or Close Combat.
BX06 2 years ago
It seems like a really effective system against an everyday attacker..but i am quite skeptical about how effective it would be against an experienced opponent..
You know, someone who wouldn't attack with a knife with his hand streched to the sky or against someone who knows how to keep his distance with a gun..
Again, i believe it is a great system, i am just qurious about how far can you get with it when it comes to defending yourself..
eliasyaita 2 years ago
It is useful only in the street not competition
TKD is competition so if you are competing you re not gonna win because of the rules now in the street you will probably kill him because that is what krav maga is. You learn to finish someone and defend yourself by doing nasty moves which aren t allow in competition. but krav is a CQC combat like others. It is effective but i recommend you to take Jiu Jitsu or other grabbling on the ground with Krav to be a bad ass

IKMfight 3 years ago
Again, this is only my opinion, I think that most of the combat training time should be devoted to standing fighting, which includes projections and sweeps.
One should also not forget to train the ground defending position against a standing opponent.
Since I think that nmiguelrmoura trains with you in IKMA, maybe you can answer the question I puted him:
What are the IKMA's rules for full-contact combats? Whick protections do you use? (mouthpiece, MMA or Boxing gloves, shin protectors,...)
KRAVMAGAPT 3 years ago
You have a video where I think you are having a nice sparr with Yigal in the ground, but if you take a close look to it, a lot of situations occured when both of you could perform any of the blows I discrebed earlier, and that could easily be applied in a really life situation.
So my opinion regarding ground fighting training, is that it should be trained as we also do it, but should not be the core of our combat training.
(cont).
KRAVMAGAPT 3 years ago
(cont)
KRAVMAGAPT 3 years ago
I agree with most of your ideas, and where I train we perform also a lot of standing fighing, throws and some ground fighting.
My personal opinion regarding ground fighting, is that in a real scenario you should always:
1. Avoid the ground
2. Once there, safely leave the ground as soon as possible!
My reasons are as follows:
1. If you are in multiple agression scenario, if you go down with more than 1 opponent active, you'll have no chance, even if you are Rickson Gracie!(cont)
KRAVMAGAPT 3 years ago
You are absolutely right, the only thing I disagree it´s the importance you give to those 3 steps of a confrontation. You should give the same importance to all of them, combat standing, take downs, and ground. Knowing how to fight in all these situations you will be able to choose the best answer. For example, if your opponent kicks well, close distance, and take him down. And knowing them you will be able to avoid or defend them better. That ´s why in IKMA we train everything.(cont.)
vitormartins08 3 years ago
(cont.)Of course you should avoid going to the ground, always, but its proven that if you dont finish the aggression in the first secondsyou are going down...and then, you should know how to work in the ground, with Krav Maga rules, and get up fast. Its the same thing with high kicks, some Organizations dont even do them, they are not effective, they say...they are, if you dont know when and how to use them.
vitormartins08 3 years ago
"3. Even if you are good fighting in the ground"... I understand this point of view, because you are thinking that we (IKMA) fight in the ground, with ground fight ruleswe dont. We learn to fight in the ground with street rules, and even having no permanent damage with the take down, you will have it before you can think about biting. Our objective its not submission, its permanent damage and get up fast.
vitormartins08 3 years ago
I understand your type of training, and It´s good, but it´s not complete. You are depending too much of your basic instincts (poke, bite, scratch),witch its clearly a self defense approach to the subject, and real fight doesnt work like thatyou bite/he pokes your eyes, you scream/he chokes you, you scratch/he bits your head throw the groundit´s ugly, but its how it issee Rio Heroes fights, do you really think screaming in the ear solves that? Fighting to survive like thatprobably will.
vitormartins08 3 years ago
Imi always worried about the safety of the kravist...the partner its like the equipment, you broke it and you can´t be able to train anymore. Depending on what we are doing, we use standard protection equipment: groin protection always, and gloves (grappling mostly), the rest depends on you...
vitormartins08 3 years ago
I understand your point of view, but you are understimating the biting issue.
That's not necessary self defence approach, actually, there is a Martial Art, dedicated to the art of biting and eye gouging - Kino or Kuna Mutai!
Essencially, they combine biting techniques to their grappling fighting, that maybe be standing or in the ground fighting.
Actually, there are known self-defense instructors that incorporate some of this techniques in their systems and they find them very effective.
KRAVMAGAPT 3 years ago
Regarding safety, obviously Imi was right, and we also take it as priority in our training.
But in IKMA, students are never subjected to a Full-Contact combat test, off course with rules concerning safety, like for instance in a grade examination?
KRAVMAGAPT 3 years ago
Regarding equipment where I train, we use shin pads, MMA gloves, boxing gloves, groin protection, mouth guard (as someone wishes) etc. all depends on what is required for given exercises or sparring. Part of our normal training for intermediate to advance includes light sparring basically during every class with exceptions of course and sparring is only trained for a portion of the class. Full-contact heavy sparring is performed from time to time, since risk of infury is high.
IKMfight 3 years ago
Yes KRAVMAGAPT, but to major things make the difference, first what you call full contact combat, we call light sparring or play fight, and we usually do it as a part of our class. The objective in this exercise its not to hurt our partner but to apply combat principles developed by IKMA regarding timing, continuous motion attack and simultaneous defense/attack that make it different and more effective than a boxing, muay thay or a kickboxing fight for example. (cont.)
vitormartins08 3 years ago
(cont.)2ºmajor difference is that usually its not a standing fight only exercise. When doing this kind of training we always pay attention not to get injured, it´s most important to work, but to let my partner work to so we can both learn. The result: 1º you will gradually erase your mistakes in a fight, 2ºyou will see that you will always receive strikes and you will not be safe doing only 1,2, or 3 hits, even to the groin...your agressor could be wearing groin protection...who knows?
vitormartins08 3 years ago
i disagree. its easy to end the fight in 1,2, or 3 hits, provided they're lethal hits. lol, not coming at you, just making a lupole joke.
cerberusxpearl 3 years ago
"what you call full contact combat, we call light sparring or play fight"...i didn´t mean to say this in a depreciation way, Im just speaking from what I see from FEKM (combate duro) and IKMF. But I can be wrong of course, the point is that you should work as close as possible to the real thing, regarding safety, and learning with it. The intensity of the exercise depends of how far you and your partner can go...
vitormartins08 3 years ago
It seems that you use similar principles regarding light sparring in classes, as we use in our training.
When I mean "full contact", I mean no power limitations of strikes during combat and with only a few limitations for safety purposes.
In FEKM these kind of combats are part of belt examinations from green belt and above.
Normally, when you see these fights, you'll see only the students fighting, and a Instructor making sure that the fight fullfills its objectives and safety is preserved.
KRAVMAGAPT 3 years ago
I know KRAVMAGAPT...they call it "combate duro", but thats a kickboxing fight, no matter what you call it. And why? Because Richard was a kickboxing champion, he never learned ground, or throws, because he thought he was good enough not to go to the ground...they still passed that mistake until a few years agountil everybody proved that the fight ends there. Haim started developing ground curriculum in late 80´s, why? (cont.)
vitormartins08 3 years ago
(cont.)Because once a guy from other country came to IKMA and he finished everybody in the groundthats how they learn, with the mistakes, thats how Krav Maga evolves...except to Richard, Yanilov and a few other...that now look for knowledge in jiu-jitsu fighters, kali fighters, etc. Storys about Richard beeing knocked out by 17 year old students in Haim´s gym are still told...usually you learn with that to get better...usually.
vitormartins08 3 years ago
What do you mean Richard beeing knocked out by a 17 year student?
Submited in the ground, KO with a punch, kick,...?
When was that?
KRAVMAGAPT 3 years ago
OK, first off the no.2 point: "Once there [on the ground], safely leave the ground as soon as possible!" Correct!! In a street fight being on the ground is very dangerous. But you seem to misunderstand a VERY IMPORTANT aspect: getting up after you were taken down by a wrestler, BJJ or sambo fighter is VERY DIFFICULT. Bitting, eye and throat attacks are COMPLIMENTORY to fighting and defending against getting your head pounded into the asphalt by the person attakcing you. (cont.)
IKMfight 3 years ago
Good luck trying to bite him while he is mounted and punching your face with no remorse. KRAVMAGAPT, there is no way you will get up,nevermind safely, without the ability to fight very well on the ground or standing. On the ground as in standing, one punch can mean one knockout, one elbow can mean one knockout. What you wrote is beautiful on paper...not in real life with an adversary that knows what he's doing...you will NEVER learn this until you face someone like that. Theorize all you want...
IKMfight 3 years ago
(cont.)...but combat standing, combat in the ground and throws are a bigger part of our training. Self defense without this sells better, but its not gona work, even if you bite very well. We use gloves and groin protection...but anyone can use a body armour if they want.
vitormartins08 3 years ago
In my opinion, the mistake it´s not regarding the application of rules or not in full contact combat. Everybody can bite, scratch, or poke an eye, those are basic instincts. The mistake starts when you only train self defense (standing and in the ground), or combat standing and self defense in the ground, or doing both thinking that you are fighting. Some Krav Maga Organizations do only that, its their approach to Krav Maga. In IKMA we train self-defense too(cont.)
vitormartins08 3 years ago
So actually the rules you adopt to train combat, and were I train also, limits a lot of the Krav Maga resources, due to safety reasons.
We all know that in Krav Maga, like in real life, everything goes, so the truth is that you cannot train/perform a lot of this techniques during combat training/combat testing.
What are the rules when you combat full-contact? Whick protections do you use?
KRAVMAGAPT 3 years ago
what´s the point about getting in a ring match respecting rules that would turn krav maga in something else. And if u train km u should know that.
nmiguelrmoura 3 years ago
nmiguelmoura, when you combat in your krav maga classes you do it with no rules?
KRAVMAGAPT 3 years ago
depends on what you consider rules. we don´t kick full force to the groin and we use protections. We also try not to cause damage to our training mate. But we don´t train to perform. Do u actually practice krav maga? Because u sent me a message defending a km senior instructor, and now u are asking me this question. It is a bit confusing
nmiguelrmoura 3 years ago
The video isn't working when i'm posting. So far I do like itay gils tactical krav maga. I train in krav maga btw, I do know a bit about fighting at least. It's like saying japan has the best karate and it's developed there, all karate around the world is shit with your limited view of martial arts. One kick doesn't mean one knock out. No one ever got knocked out with a kick around me during sparring yet. I rather kick lower if I have to kick.
thisismynames 3 years ago
One kick can mean one knockout, and you have to remember that. Karate is not from Japan but China :/ And yes, the most renown karate schools are in Asia. Which doesn't necessarily mean the rest of the schools are bad. Have you noticed you don't do in Ikmf what Itay Gil does? :)
IKMfight 3 years ago
Yes it's not that rough in the IKMF, still I think that's a good way to train. I do spar alot in krav maga at least and i'm sure you do too. I belive krav maga will benefit with more sparring even if they don't like to make it seem like a sport, even try it in competitions. I suppose we can both agree on that sparring is better than demostrations and drills.
Also my point about karate is the same point I want to make about krav maga in israel.
thisismynames 3 years ago
With that point of view you dont need to train at all...just learn how to kick to the groin and to run and you are safe.
And ran nakash teaches simple, but he knows a lot more then he teaches, same thing like Itay. He has done Muay thay and jiu jitsu, and Ran was Muay Thay champion in Israel. They always sell the same Krav Maga technics, and thats ok...in case you dont need to know more. But thats like asking you, if you prefer to be the small or the big fish...some people just like to stay small

Your not the only krav maga in the world.
thisismynames 3 years ago
yes i am the bald guy yes we are not the only krav maga in the world but we are the original organization this is the real Israeli Krav Maga!!!
yigal289 3 years ago
It's nice to meet you, your on all the videos, your sort of famous for the IKMA. I have a question about knife techniques in this video, you added alot of new moves I haven't seen in other krav maga federations and stuff. Is the 360 basic knife defense not enough? Is it outdated to haim? I see alot of arm locks, can anyone learn that? I tried it on bigger inflexible ppl and they don't really always fall. Still imo, Imi had alot of students, even if the IKMA was the original, they are similar.
thisismynames 3 years ago
The organisations are similar to people like yourself "thisismynames" that don't have indepth knowledge. The organisations are fundamentaly different and so are the techniques that you see here. Remember, to untrained eyes, bjj and sambo look alike...
IKMfight 3 years ago
I know the difference between bjj and sambo, I know the difference between the IKMF and IKMA, IKMA = high spinning kicks and fancy knife disarms controlling the arm that doesn't work if your opponent resist.
thisismynames 3 years ago
thisismynames, please, you are starting to sound foolish :) the difference between IKMA and IKMF are spinning kicks and "fancy knife" techniques? Wow, if only the world was as simple as through your eyes :) And I understand that YOU believe and where you come from it is normal that the LOWER ranked students are better than the HIGHER ranked students?? :))) Is that how it is in North America?
IKMfight 3 years ago
Don't put words in my mouth, insulting me doesn't make you any better. Let's see you ppl put together IKMA sparring videos, so your opponent doesn't stand there and do nothing and let the technque work. Unlike the IKMF, you can resist and the technique will still work. That's my challenge to you, let ppl resist these techiques and fight back, it won't work.

Isn't IKMF the first and the original foundation?
Dabidabida 3 years ago
no the first and the original foundation is the ikma ikmf foundad later the ikma is foundad in 1978 first and the only one you can rede the history in the ikma websaite
yigal289 3 years ago
"Isn't IKMF the first and the original foundation?" Dabidabida, I think we already established that it isn't :))) The IKMA was founded in 1978 by Imi Lichtenfeld and co-founded by, among others, Haim Gidon. It was NOT co-founded by Yanilov (he was 19 and by law too young). Yanilov decided to persue his own vision and interpretation of Krav Maga and founded the IKMF in 1994. Imi entrusted Haim to continue his vision of KM, that is what you see in these videos. The continuation of Imi's work.
IKMfight 3 years ago
yeah, but that was before our discussion ;P
Dabidabida 3 years ago
IKMF is led by Eyal Yanilov , the KM founder's right hand for over 15 years, the only person holding KM highest level and Founder's Diploma of Excellence.
Is what stands on the home page. I've been talking to some people and I now doubt that this is a lie.
Dabidabida 3 years ago
Yanilov was Imi's right hand for 15 years? What does that even mean? GM Haim Gidon was Imi's student for 28 years and was chosen BY IMI to be his successor and continue his vision of KM. Why didn't Imi choose his "right hand"??? :))) Yanilov holding KM highest level? Yes, in YANILOV'S ORGANISATION. Not in Imi Lichtenfeld's organisation IKMA. :) Which is shown by legal documents. What is a "Founder's Diploma of Excellence?" :))) What expertise does he have thanks to that? ;)))
IKMfight 3 years ago
Look, Yanilov is doing his thing, he founded his organisation and I wish him all the best. But why does he have to lie to people that he is some amazing guru/master/lord of Krav Maga? He left IKMA while Imi was still alive and established his own organisation. If he was Imi's top student he would be Grandmaster, but he wasn't and he isn't.
IKMfight 3 years ago
IF Yanilov had the same vision and interpretation of Krav Maga as its founder Imi Lichtenfeld, he would be representing IKMA today, but he's not, instead he puts up certificates and diplomas trying to show everybody he is the best in the world... top student of Imi! YET IMI did NOT choose Yanilov, IMI chose the student that he believed was the best, he chose Grandmaster Haim Gidon. Just think for yourselves everybody, Yanilov is trying o play down this fact which is very unfair to IMI and Haim!!
IKMfight 3 years ago
I agree with you, I meant I saw him training with IMI in those books and he brought it to europe, he deserves the diploma of excellence, what has the IKMA done lately except to show ppl fancy demos that doesn't work against a resisting opponent. Btw I also take krav maga, I think Eyal is good and the krav maga that imi intend. I meant big deal if haim gideon was the highest rank, doesn't mean that's imi's vision, only isreali's version.
thisismynames 3 years ago
