One thing which has long intrigued me about this old Central slide, is why the circle is so mis-shaped.
Don't get me wrong, I love it, it's a great old ident. And some of its charm is actually derived from its non-perfection. But could the artist not have drawn around a plate or something as a guideline?
I mean, look how much the blue part doesn't align with the white part down at the bottom, for example.
Rsrocks412 - ATV was renamed Central in 1982. All programmes which were made prior to the name change became duel branded.
And not just for the sake of it. Any programmes which were distributed across the network, had to be presented by one of the regions (or in rare cases, ITV itself). As ATV no longer existed by that name, it therefore did not hold licence to distribute under that name. Hence 'Central Presents'.
Back then, procedures like this were taken extremely seriously. Not now though.
I used to work for a Central subcontractor call Godfrey Davies Film Productions near The Hagley Road and we used to call the Central ident' "The Bruised Bollock!"
only show in Production were taken over by Central, All others like Saint did not, But these show were sold of to polygram then Carlton brough them and central in the 1990;s and thus is how ALL ATV/central came back in under ITV control
I remember these well but only ever saw them on school's programmes. It's possible that Crossroads might have been aired like this in early 82 but I don't recall it. Even though the ATV name ceased to exist on 31/12/81 they lived on for a little while longer before tagging the proper Central logo on in 1985. However, on some of these you could still hear echoes of the ATV ident after the Central ident had finished. Rubbish editing or just a desire to see ATV live on a bit more.
Certainly aired before Crossroads in 1982 (ATV made the first 3 months of 1982's Crossroads in 1981)however the logo from Central was put out 'live' and it doesn't exist on the actual tapes.
Yes, it's probably "Stop Look Listen" or "Good Health" or some other schools prog that they used to present this way. Brings back primary school memories of watching Independent Television for schools and colleges. I want to see the Stop Look Listen titles where the words flew forward in time with the music. I can only find the face titles on here.
Probably a schools programme made by ATV. Between 82 and 84 ATV schools programmes were presented this way but in 85 they were all rebadged as Central productions.
They changed their identity after making these programes but before they were aired, so they put Central Presents before them. I hope they bring back our local regional channels!
I love this clip! How can 2 people not like it?

FACTS AMAZING: Central TV plc was technically ATV Midlands, sold off and renamed.
