It's funny because I take this song the other way. My closest friend was my wife. She didn't cheat on me, just never loved me after 10 years. Never acted like she have a shit about me, never said I love you, hello, goodbye. Would shy away from me if I tried to give her a hug or a kiss...bottom line I take it that she (my wife, my best friend) betrayed me by taking my heart and ripping it out of my chest day after day.
