I was at Town Hall that night ! It was a great show. Mario Montez was there and if I remember correctly he was wheeled onto the stage in a bath tub. Harlow was beautiful , yes she was ! and i remember that there was some sort of brou hah about Lady Bird Johnson being one of the sponsors...not true of course but it was in the papers. Those were the days...a few years later we had the Cockettes and then Divine came along...lots of fun !
@thedarthflagger I had no idea that was Pepper Labeija until it was mentioned on Youtube. She was really quite beautiful when she was a young girl. Afterwards when she appeared in Paris is Burning, she started dressing outlandishly and looked like a drag queen, but back in the 60's she was 100% passable and looked like a beautiful young lady.
Didn't the same Crystal Labieja, upset at the judges, start the current "House" system at a party in Harlem? (Invite to a party at the House of Labeija)?
Harlow, the pretty blonde who won the contest had a sex change 4 years later and dated Grace Kelly's brother who was running for Mayor of Philly at the time!
