For those of you who say that you've been paddled and you've turned out fine, I can see you have no resentment stored up at all. Hitting children is wrong and if parents would teach through EXAMPLE and COMMUNICATION rather than BEATING their child they would see how much better off their children would be!!!!!

when i would get spanking as a child i would help my dad. I would start taking things in the room and hitting myself. i would run my head into the wall and give myself a black eye. my dad didnt know what to think about it all. looking back it was quiet funny.

I live in one of those 21 states. I am an educator. It works. Discipline in schools was much better when it was common place. I worked in a school where it was used vs one were it isn't. I was paddled. I turned out fine. Get a life and go crusade for something worthwhile.

I have never spanked my child and i have not allowed anyone else to either. i have been told by every teacher she has had that she perfectly well behaved,Thank God she doesnt go to a school that would hit her becouse i would be down at the school with a baseball bat taking it to whoever it was that hit her. When she got older i would give her my blessing to fight back.

CP better NOT in schools - can be abused. ONLY parents should have right to discipline child in this way and then only with care. Ppl need help with parenting today - too many disfunctional families!! Too many disrespectful kids, even to parents. Didn't fear my Dad, but feared getting belt - not sayin' it always works - parents need to think about what is best- bad behaviour may be due to prob. which needs sorted. arizona and louisana are in the process of banning it. leaveing 18 states. the united states is the only country to still allow it. theirs a bill in congress for a federal ban ask your senator and state rep to vote yes on a federal ban.

It's against Title 9 of Federal law and the 14th admenment to the U.S. Consitution. All kinds of discipline should be remove from schools. the only discipline problem in schools is the teachers and principals are out of control. School legally by law have no right to discipline kids in school. schools are for teaching not hitting. I got it ban here in Sedalia missouri this year. all the principals are glad it's gone. just a update only 20 states still paddle as of 7- 17- 09 ohio ban it

i would agree with this but in my school (in england) there are some reallly bad kids im talking nno respect for the teachers or other people, if they got smacked with a paddle every time they swore at a teacher they wouldent do it again

Thank you Nadine, for this helpful information about ending this barbaric treatment of vulnerable little children. Even 5 year olds are being beaten with these hideous boards. It's mostly the southern states, but also Indiana and Ohio still allow some schools to do this.
