Hi, I think that Daniel is the best candidate, he seems like he knows what is going on on the ground, and won't simply go on Question Time to further personal ambitious goals, I also like that fact that he doesn't have a clear left/right view, but is more concerned with actual issues. Daniel should definately go forward!
p.s. I think you're right about having local Primaries. I'm from just up the road in Mansfield, where Alan Meale has been in the seat for more years than I care to recall, but this guy does nothing for the town of Mansfield and has unsurprisingly been caught with his fingers in the till in the recent Expenses scandal.
The Expenses issue isn't directly about our democracy at its core - however, part of the problem is that once you're in as an MP, if you get a safe seat, that's where the democracy ends, and that isn't right. And that is where Parliament and our Political Parties start becoming like an old boys' networks.
Meale would have been voted out in Mansfield long ago if the public could have voted for an alternative candidate. This is where the abuse of the system begins, where MPs are untouchable by the general public in safe seats.
This perpetuates the mentality that they can get away with 'making the most' of the system, and they lose touch with the voters and the common man.
We need to keep our politicians on their toes, and we need to see real benefits locally as well as having a good debating / voting records nationally, and this is why I agree with the idea of Primaries for electing our representatives and holding them to real account.
Definitely. This idea that putting more police on the streets, or increasing the minimum sentences for those carrying dangerous weapons, will somehow get rid of the problems we face in our inner cities is in my opinion absolutely ridiculous.
These problems are caused by a lack of fathers - and we overlook this issue far too much. The youngsters in inner cities don't have good role models any more. Their role models are their older brothers, or 'established gangsters', rap starts etc.
The thing is, if you legalise drugs, yes, you might solve the crime element but you don't solve this problem of having a bunch of youngsers who simply have no form of aspiration.
Once the drugs are gone, they'll find something else... whether it be stolen cars, bank scams, or whatever. The only way you can truly reduce crime is to tackle the causes of crime... and I believe the lack of fathers is the main cause.
Re Expenses. IMO, its really not that big an issue. I just think we should sort it out quickly so we can focus on bigger things things. I think we sort this by quickly publishing mp's reciepts.
If mps knew the telegraph was going to have access to their receipts, I guarentee we wouldn't have seen anyone claiming for duck islands or mortgages that didn't exist.
The media (as vicious as it sometimes is) is a great tool of democracy. Give them quick access to receipts and the problem is solved.
LDV is not going to be a major loss as such but nonetheless, I think they should be bailed out. Why? Well, not because of the recession, but because I think in general, this country needs to invest in manufacturing. This recession has made it crystal clear that the economy of this country relies to heavily on the banks to drive it.
Lol, cheers. You'd think some of these guys had been given scripts from one of the political parties or something wouldn't you! We need someone who going to challenge politicians, not someone who's going to sound like one!

Well done. You talk clear, plain sense. And you're trying to make a difference in your own community. Keep up the good work.

If I could vote I would vote for you :)
Your didn't use overcomplicated words and a stale tone of voice like the other candidates who seem to just want to complain like old women.
