It looks like acetylene to me. It burns in air with a smoky yellow flame. It cannot be compressed without exploding, so it is stored dissolved in acetone under low pressure. That's why the flame wasn't a lot bigger.
As soon as I saw the flame I would have retreated and called the fire department in case the fire spread. Hopefully it just burned itself out safely.
Thats not Acetylene, the color of a acetylene cylinder is a dark red color, the smell you get off acetylene, is like garlic, and the heat would have blown the clylinder up, ive seen one of them go off, if the blast duznt kill ya, the shavings would.
If it is an Acetylene cylinder, then it is packed with a wire mesh that is saturated with acetone. Acetylene dissolves in acetone, so that it is under lower pressure than if it were simply compressed.
next time you go cutting on a tank that you don't know what is in it. Take the valve off and flood it with water all the way to the top. Then start cutting with the water inside. Once you brake through you can drain it and continue. You are EXTREMELY FORTUNITE TO BE ALIVE .... Acetylene is extremely unstable. I don't use it at all. I recomend MAPP gas or propane! Much safer however the HHO is looking even much more promising and safer pluss you can make it yourself!! Best regards Mark
Ok, ive heard it can be lethal, I didnt know what was in it, and it felt light, and so I could take it with the scrap, I had to cut a hole, so it wasnt classed as pressurised, I know its dangerous, but was ready to frow it on the garden when I saw the flame, which I did, ive always been lucky with fire.

That is acetylene burning (A welding gas) In proper proportions with air it is very Explosive
