lol 1:17 the camera guy . also, for eddy sachs' crash, imagine bieng in the stands and just seeing flames the whole front straight god RIP all drivers
@ 2:30 "While rushing to the car, I saw splotches of a peculiar gray substance marking a trail on the asphalt leading up to the driver. When I reached the car, I was shocked to see that Smiley's helmet was gone, along with the top of his skull. The material on the race track was most of his brain. I rode to the care center with the body. On the way in I performed a cursory examination and found that nearly every bone in his body was shattered. I had never seen such trauma." Cart MD Steve Olvey
Astonishingly, Swede Savage (2:15) survived his crash and even joked with medical personnel who attended him, and he was fully expected to live when taken to Hospital.
However, he died in hospital 33 days after the accident.
It is widely reported that Savage died of kidney failure from infection, but the real cause of death was believed to be complications related to contaminated plasma, and that Savage contracted hepatitis B from a transfusion, causing his liver to fail.
For some, it's the ultimate glory....for others, it's the ultimate sacrifice. But that's why people race. To them, it's worth the risk. RIP to all those featured here and countless others who passed in the pursuit of a dream in motor racing.
@mesice because at the speeds they are travelling, hittng a wall made of rubber would cause your car to spin, causing more g-forces on your body, and sliding along the concrete wall allows the car to slow gradually with a smaller g-force load. Plus, most of the fatal crashes in the recent past were caused by direct force into the wall, which rubber would not help with in the slightest. It is all a lesson in physics.
at 1:18 - the wreck is Mike Magill, #77, Dayton Steel Wheel Spl, in 1959, not Pat O'Connor, who is the flip just before Magill's wreck. Magill lived, by the way.
@CrashCarnageVid the one of floyd roberts in 1939 did the other one that went over the wall also died? cause it looked like he did =(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((
when the crashes are instant death so you no they didnt go through allot of pain are ok to watch but OMG 2:25 thats a bit grusome, cuz the guys on fire and u can see him frantically trying to put it out :( R.I.P
I remember that Swede Savage wreck. I was around 12 years old. Still sticks out in my mind because he was trying to get out while the car burned and never made it.

@xetlive No problem, it's a shame that so many had to die before changes in safety occurred. I'm thankful that some of these changes were made however, because without these changes, a very hard crash that I had in Legends cars about 6 years ago, would've been a lot worse. R.I.P.
Does anyone know about that indy car or F1 wreck where the car stopped on the other side of the track and the safety workers went across the track and one was hit and split in half? I saw a video on here and now I can't find it again.
@cartracer58 no he died of a bad blood transfusion giving him hepatitus b

I just went and read up on Swede.
It is widely reported that Savage died of kidney failure from infection, but Dr. Steve Olvey, Savage's attending physician at Indy said that the real cause of death was complications related to contaminated plasma. Olvey claimed that Savage contracted hepatitis B from a transfusion, causing his liver to fail.
So your correct, infection. :(
Thanx for the insight!
