This is wonderful! JJ is obviously having a fun time which is so important! (and so cute!:) While I've never tried anything like this with our kitties, we do teach some simple tricks like sit up and roll over. My last cat learned to sit up, get " shot" by us pointing at him & saying "Bang", he would fall over & play dead. Was hysterical! Cats can learn tricks if you have patience & start them young. We train horses & have found a lot of the mental process involved can also work for kitties.
I would like to know if you have ever done Dog Agility with a good trainer and a dog which loves Agility. I don't mean that this isn't a good idea, I think it's cool to do it also with cats but I think it would be better that if the cat would understand what she is doing, and not only running after a toy. But what I only wanted to say is if you have ever done Dog Agility, so that you can suggest that this is more fun than doing dog agility. :)
He is a clever & cool kitty but I am not that suprised as I see he is a Tonkinese. Thanks for the upload. They are one of the most engaging, elegant, intelligent & loving felines.
I have no words. The cutest thing I think I have ever seen in my life. I love the sweet music that accompanied it, too. I feel so warm and fuzzy right now. Is this a tear in my eye?
Thanks so much. It means a lot to know we've brought joy to someone. Some don't like the music as too hooky but I think it suites the joy the kitten feels. We have another video we made this year that are Jumpin Jack's kittens from 2 litters. He is a happy boy who made happy babies.
This is so cute! :3 I don't think the kitten is learning the course though. The only thing that kitten is thinking is "I've gotta catch that fluffy thing!!" Adorable video and a happy kitty ^_^
I doubt he would have done it with out a tease to encourage him, but it did make progress over the 3 days we did this in terms of going through in a specific order. By the end of the 3 days it could go through the entire course in the correct order. At first he just went where ever he wanted to go.
if you use a toy the cat just want the toy and don´t do the agility because it is fun. The agility supose to be fun, not somethning you forse them to do whit a toy.
You don't "force" a 6 week old kitten to do any thing. He wouldn't do anything unless he wanted to. The toy shows him the order to do things. It was only the second day he had tried it and certainly needed encouragement to learn what order to run the course..I thought it was obvious that the kitten was having fun. In fact each time I watch it I smile knowing how much fun he was having,
My cat really likes this video. He watched the kitten very intently, and purred loudly. I think my kitty might like to try agility play, especially now that I've seen him watch this video. Thanks for posting!
MOST adorable baby EVER. I had to come back and watch again today and show my husband. We were almost blinded by the sheer cuteness. I'm so glad you posted this! In fact, we are adopting Tonks soon and I would LOVE to get them into agility. It looks like so much fun!
I only discovered cat agility recently & think it a wonderful hoot. Any person who engages in this "sport" absolutely has to have a sense of humor!
Alas, my two Maine Coons will never be stars in agility; way too much effort required from them. And my calico is too flighty to do this. So, I'll enjoy other's efforts.
Try a kitten. I don't know about Maine Coon kittens but Persian kittens actually do well. Its adults that are couch potatoes. Boy do I relate to that. :)
AKC doesn't have cats. The cat world has several associations like AKC but the biggest is CFA which is the Cat Fanciers Association. Meet the Breeds is the first joint activity of its kind between AKC and dogs and CFA and cats. We are very excited.
Jumpin Jack Flash is an excellent name, just as long as you keep the training routine up. My cat Zoe is a little indoor cat, but that doesn't stop her jumping 6ft 10 inches up the wall to swipe the laser beam darting about the paintwork.
Cats - you gotta love them (or else you have a serious floor in your own personality!!!)
Not sure if WalMart has something like this but these were all custom made by husband. They are very small and could only be used by a very young kitten. He is already starting to out grow the small tunnel and lowest hurdle.
My husband made them all from wooden dowels and bits of wood. He used colored duck type tape cut down to size for the color and of course lots of paint. The hoop is one of my embroidery hoops. Round containers with the ends cut off for tunnels..
This is the most precious little Tonk! He's sure to be ready by the time of his first show! You have the patience of Job in training this little fluff-ball!
the kitty is so cute

It seems that the hard part of training cats isn't getting them to learn the trick... it's persuading them to do it!
collabi 1 year ago
Yes that is why kittens are so good. They want to play. When they get older sometimes they start and then stop to roll over and get petted.
