  • A beautiful video of skilled riders but spoiled by the cruelty displayed The most offensive is the mutilation of the horses, almost all of whom had docked tails, where the tail is cut off through the bone. It leaves the horse with no defense to flies and other insects. Also, several of the bits were brutal. Finally, using a pole to shove a running cow into a somersault is not a sport that should be publicized -- this manner of working cattle became obsolete and unnecessary many years ago.

  • The horses you see in this video are Hispano-Arabes. Not Andalusians but Hispano-Arabes - a breed in their own right. They are NOT Lusitanos. The saddles being used are NOT Portuguese - the saddles are the traditional Doma Vaquera saddle.

  • @churizo1960 Anglo-arabes and Andalusians (PRE) said Arenalilla

  • Love this video except the short tails. Beautiful, responsive horses and great riding. Thanks for posting.

  • Superb stuff. As a horseman I appreciate the wonderful equitation skills demonstrated and the superb horses. Spanish horses....and Spanish horseman can they possible be bettered? Not in my opinion.

  • Was wondering where one could purchase the type of saddle used in this form of riding, and what do they usually cost?

  • @in4freedom they are simply called 'Portuguese saddles' (or are where i go :P) and usually cost 600-200 it really depends, sometimes more

  • @in4freedom The real authentic Doma Vaquera or Doma Clásica saddles can only be bought hand made in selective countries in Europe. I'm sure you can get replicates. My tack is hand made in Spain by a producer certified and used by the Spanish Riding School in Spain.

  • what breed are these horses?

  • @cdjmk1000 lusitano i think

  • I just started learning about a year ago to ride Vaquera style.. we have a couple of trainers here in the united states who do so very well. I have to say.. it has been an awakening, not only for myself, but for my horse. We communicate with less and get more! It's all about the softness and getting out of my own head allowing my horse to do what it does naturally!! This video is beautiful!! thank you :)

  • @dalphina 99% of people who ride German and French way (Dressage, show jumping, etc) don't understand this and poo poo it because they can't replicate the same results under their way of training. They make the mistake when they incorrectly break in a horse, trying to do it in the smallest amount of time. Yes A La Jineta's philosophy does take longer to imprint into a horse and rider but the results are far more spectacular and you are doing far less harm to you horse then A la Brida.

  • OMG those poor horses tails! how UGLY! otherwise the work was nice to watch...

  • Their tails are docked or braided or shaved because there are nasty barb stickers on the weeds that could hurt them.

  • So I have stickers where my horses are also...I brush them all the time over cutting the hair off and being lazy. Roaching everything just sounds like the lazy way to me to take care of the problem

  • No you don't get it. These are like stickers on styroids and can cut into a horses flesh before it can make it back to the barn for grooming. Do the horses in this video look poorly cared for in any way?

  • these horses could do anything-- spaniards train their horses perfectly and to the utmost function... not to mention beauty!

Me encantaria aprender a montar asi. Gracias por compartir esto.

  • Here go the knights of this age... BRAVO! :-D

  • Very much enjoyed your horsemanship and beautiful horses you have.

  • Muchas gracias por esta video !!!!

  • I've seen video's of Doma Vaquera exibitions using a Garrocha, but have also seen Garrocha referred to as a style of it's own.

Could you clarify the differences if they are not the same?

  • Dear Arenalilla,

Where was these footages taken? I mean as in which country. Thanks!

  • In Spain. I think in Andalucía.

  • @Mrhappydude69 I think it's in Cádiz province.

  • my feoo..........never

  • More! More! More!

  • This is my favourite horse video on youtube.

  • Great song! Which is it? I checked the Concierto de Aranjuez by Paco de Lucia, but I can't find the song back on it. I really want it, does anyone know of a CD it's on or something? Also, a friend of mine told me it's originally from Chick Corea, called "spain"... any comments on that?

  • Yes, it is.

the song called Spain I don't like very much.

Concierto de aranjuez is in Emule, kazaa and ares.

  • Vid is nice but the horsetails....why don`t they just cut the hair instead of amputating a body part ? Cruel.

  • Only the hair is cut because it could get caught in the "garrocha" and be dangerous for the horse and the rider. The "living" part of the tail is not touched.

  • Sorry to disagree, but I`ve never seen a horse whose "living" part of his tail is THAT short - and I`ve seen many horses.

  • Then you should look again... I am a horse veterinarian myself. There are 15 to 18vertebrae in a horse's tail, and if only one had been amputated the horse could not raise his tail (which they do very well on this vid). Besides, the fact that there is longer hair hanging from the end of the tails proves that it has only been cut, since the hair on the living part of the tail is shorter that the rest. (sorry if I'm not clear but I'm not a native English speaker)

  • Hey I can confirm that elwenrohendil is right. I work and school Vaquera horses. They are not docked, there tails are just cut or tied short, to avoid getting them tangled in the pole and the horns from the cattle.

I don't like the idea as the cannot get rid of the flys irritating them, but I'd rather that, than having them tangled up! :P

  • forgot to add other reason for cut tail is also tration and 'tidness' bit like the english plaiting up for hunting.

  • actually, what is the point of docking horses' tails? if it exists at all... I guess it's painful also

well horses aren't my favorite animals and it's not so big problem for me, I just think that an image of rider and horse will be better, if the horses have a natural long tail, not such a stump

  • Yes I konw...

Lot of riders use spray with oil.

  • horses without a tail look really awful:-) but never mind, I wonder they at least don't have problems with the flies
