@laiosto Just cause you say donkey and rape doesn't mean you won or you're clever. In fact, it means you think you are but you actually are devoid of friends or people close to you.

Relf's haunting vocals make this a lost classic, Yardbirds started out as blues band and developed a cool sound for rock music, Heart full of Soul another classic

Never heard this song before. I can appreciate that it is (and was) phenomenal, but it's not the sort of thing I would like to listen to too often. It has too much of the sound of a dirge about it.
Very beautiful tune!!! I knew earlier only Boney M.:s & Rainbow`s version + the Finnish equivalent, sung by male singer Markku Aro with the name Painan pään (I cast my head down)

There's an Animals song from around 1967 called "The Black Death", which is obviously influenced by this Yardbirds Gregorian chant classic.

@MyBRandX It's odd though, I would never be able to tell the Rainbow version is a cover, they're like totally different songs.

The song was written by Jim McCarty and Paul Samwell-Smith of the Yardbirds in 1965.

I've always wondered... whose the original author for that song?
I know Rainbow did a very popular version.
Yardbirds did this one which is pretty popular.
I just don't know if any of these are the originals.
(The Yardbird's one predates Rainbow by like 20 years...)
AtriumFeanorGnome 3 years ago
You're off by a factor or 2. :)
This song was from '65 and then in '75 it was on "Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow."
