Love this song!!! Weird, I don't think there were any intentions of religious undertones, but am I the only one who here's a story of the Rapture?
I mean, "moonlight bleeding, follow me, down to the valley, come to us, lazarus, david, this cold world is not for you, rest your head upon me, I have strength to carry you"... ?
Am I seeing this right? Aren't we Christians watching the world pass by our windows? Don't we expect "a voice 'like a trumpet' inside my head, breaks the analog" ..?
@colinparen Well, this song is from Deadwing, which is a conceptual album. I think the main character's name is david and in this song his mother is contacting him from beyond the grave.
There are religious references in "halo" elsewhere in the album, so maybe you are not far off.
Steven Wilson is a genius. Not only that but the whole band and the chemistry is amazing. When I saw them live in Sydney a few years back I couldn't believe how well they worked together. Check out my cover of this song if you have the time.
Steven Wilson is the only guitarist who can play a solo consisting of around five notes and still bring me to the verge of tears. The man is just brilliant
Porcupine Tree is EASILY the best Alternative Rock band out there. Tons of variety, intricate guitar riffs, smooth bass grooves, heavenly keyboarding, drumming unmatched by many within the genre, poetic lyrics, beautiful vocals... What can I say? These guys are GODLY.
@mynameisSIC : You mean prog don't you? They may have arrived during the Alternative movement but surely you don't believe this is Alternative do you? If so I fear for your mind.
One band is no better than the other...it's art, you may prefer one piece over another, but just because you like it, it's not good, bad or ugly, you just like it...why sit there and trash talk? We should all be together, you like may like Opeth and I may like Pocupine Tree, but we are all brothers and sisters, it's music and it's truly beautiful! Why do we have to destroy it's wonder by slamming each other and the music that moves us? Just my two cents...
Jonas Bros aren't a band, they are a marketing campaign. And it's not a "rule". I'm not your keeper, what you think and do is up to you...I was just putting my two cents out there. Right?

@ALTDOK I agree with you my friend! ^^ But...as history show us...its human nature to fight againt each other for the simple reason we're different....Hope its gonna change someday, starting with Porcupine tree! =)
@ALTDOK That would be true if we were all talking of bands of an obvious high caliber of musicianship, like PT or Opeth. But your statement falls apart when we start to speak of the sort of mainstream north american garbage pop music, engineered by companies designed to solely make money. In fact, "the Sound of Muzak" is about that very subject.
I lol'd. You're either mentally challenged, biased against metal, or you haven't given Opeth an honest chance. What you'll find is that Mikael Akerfeldt, just like Steven Wilson, is a truly unique musical genius.

I gave Opeth a chance and they're overly boring bullshit. Given it's bullshit that takes talent to play, it's still bullshit none the less. And nobody wants to eat shit. At least when Porcupine Tree does a fifteen minute song they keep it interesting. I use to be gay for Opeth in fact, not because I liked it, but because it was pretentious bullshit that could be called genius. Then I quickly realized I was being a faggot and shouldn't listen to something just because it's regarded as masterful.
lol. Blackwater Park was their last perfect album, and i've enjoyed nothing since near as much. I think the first 5 albums are absolute masterpieces though.
Great song, amazing band. Steven Wilson is probably one of my favorite writers/artists of all time. However, his acoustic guitar (live) sounds absolutely dreadful. I'm glad to find out what is, so that I can avoid ever using one. Thanks for posting, though, I love this song
I LOVE Johns' high vocals they sound perfect with Stevens' voice such talented musicians and great performance its truly what music is about in all its glory

This is not by any means one of PT's most "respected" tracks.
Honestly, one of my least favorite songs by this amazing group. The lyrics are cheese, and the melodies seem unoriginal and uninspired. I feel this way about Deadwing in general.
these guys are giving me new faith in music. there is so much shit out there. Pt's melodies are awesome. They are like a mix between Rush , Yes and Pink Floyd . A new lease on my faith in music. Im so pumped for their show in boston in sept 09
Sounds like you have just opened the door and stepped into the new world of music that the commercial music industry does not want you to hear (because they dont have control over it)
Check out Riverside, RPWL, Threshold, Lydian Sea, and so much more. Just amazing the high quality of music the masses just dont have access to except for places like Youtube or other internet sites
I heard this song for the first time live (I had never even bought or heard the Deadwing album at that time,) and it just blew me away. It is unreal how good these guys are.
