Although in previous editions, when 40k (or at least the movement phase) had more in common with WHFB, obviously you had different units with different movement values. Now movement limits are 6-24" (24" for fast vehicles, turbo-boosting bikes (and maybe jetbikes, I dunno) and any cavalry/beast that can make a lucky fleet roll)

@chetdaye Battalion is the way to start. Also pick up at least one of the new stegadon model. If you like magic, then a slann is a must.

cool, well it's expected anyway to lose some if your new, what would you recommed is a good tactic for khorne army I'm gonna mix in some gors too to add variation, human for lord and a beast for champion, I know the enemy will expect me to go gungho so I could use that against him

You need cheap units such as dogs to screen your frenzy units. Are you playing beasts or warriors of chaos?

I'm a dwarf guy i have 24 warriors 2 standard bearers 2 horn men and 4 champions.

Also 14 thunders and one champ. Any guys that i should get for my army i know am getting ironbreakers

You need an organ gun and a couple of cannons. Good start to an army.

Dwarves are going to be a GREAT army in 8th edition.

Prepare to lose a bunch of games. Against an experienced opponent such as myself, I will force you to charge crap units and then flee and hit you in the flanks w/ my elites. Khorne armies are easy to counter if you know how.

I'm planning on buying some Lizardmen minis, this is what I have planned:

1 Saurus Old Blood, 1 Skink Priest, 1 Skink Chief with Sword & Shield, 1 Saurus Warrior Regiment & 2 Skink Regiments. The Warhammer Rulebook & the Lizardmen 7th Edition Army Book are a must. So, should I add anything else? I've got the money.

You will need a battle standard bearer as they are hugely important in 8th edition.

i have watched fantasy played and it looks very confusing i may or may not get into it but i will say the close combat for fantasy is way to complex and i like the simplicity of 40k's combat resolution.

In a 2000 point game you need 1 hero/lord choice and 3 troop choices. There is a organization chart in fantasy similiar to 40K but it changes depending on how many points you play.

Knights of the realm are a troop choice. Damsels are a hero choice however they do have a lord level magic users called a Prophetess. They can be the same model or different.

I've bought some sweet 6th edition empire battalion boxes and what not and I'm curious on how to build and expand on my army. I'm thinking of big 30 man blocks with knights and and artillery supporting them, the idea is to win via combat res with the support of detatchments ect. Is that viable in your experience?

The army you mention is very viable except for one thing, the calvary. A single unit of 30 is to many points and you don't gain much by having more than 10, unless you cause fear. Empire calvary do not cause fear unless they have a magic banner.

artillery - cannons, mortars

flagellants

Empire has lots of choices and are a very diverse army.

Fantasy is my favorite game. There are more 40K players in our area. Personally I would wait a little on Fantasy. Rumours of 8th edition coming out this summer.

depends on what you like. 40K is more popular than Fantasy in the US. In Europe it is the other way around.

If you are talking about 40K Orks then check out my Ork codex review. Orks are a very diverse army. You can go mechanized or foot slogging. I use the latter of the two.

The Skaven! For the Under Empire!

Ive been thinking of getting into the Skaven for about 3 years now, but always put it off. After playing Warhammer Mark of Chaos I really want to get started with them, but theres only a few things. 1. Are the models hard to paint? and 2. The Skaven models look hideous, or just from what ive seen on the Games Workshop website. If only the models looked as good as the Skaven in Mark of Chaos. Last thing, when are the Skaven gonna get updated?

There is a dipping method for painting skaven I saw on the internet a while back. That would make painting them easy. Skaven are a fun army. Their army book is next for Warhammer Fantasy. It should be here in a few months.

Thanks for that info, but I dont play Warhammer. I have a ton of armies for 40k, and am starting to get a few Fantasy armies. I was wondering, the models are gonna get updated too right? Kind of a dumb question, but I want to know. Most Skaven models are Metal, and I prefer plastic when it comes to troops like Stormvermin and those globadiers.

They can be melee heavy army. I would look into Warriors of Chaos. These guys are brutal in close combat. That is there specialty.

GW wants to sell you Lizardmen probably because they are the newest book out there. I have Lizards but they are not as fighty as Warriors of chaos.

I agree. In the last 2 weeks I have played Dwarves twice. My opponent takes a fighty dwarf army instead of the uber shooty army. I very fun game both times.

i try not to take to many war machines

i like to take an anvil but my opponent always try's to use his movement to out flank me and take the warmachines wich like the anvil which is like 170 points is alot to lose

The anvil is much better in the current dwarf army book than the previous one.  So that does make it a high priority target. Expect people to go after than and organ guns first in the dwarf army.

i tend to keep a flame cannon near both my anvil and my organ guns it only has rane 12" but it helps get rid of alot of troop's before they charge the organ guns or the anvil but that 140 points just to keep the warmachine safe
