Why don't we just bring back blood lines and have a caste system in America. There are so many college graduates who are receiving negative returns on their investment in their college education. It is just pitiful to see the correlation between education and income completely dissolve. All consumer protections have been lifted from student loans, which is about the only way to finance an education. More bad news for those whose only crime was attempting to improve themselves.

what the president fails to mention is that "fully covered" actually entails being covered by LOANS, which you have to pay back.... so students are only being "COVERED" with money THEY DON'T HAVE. plus, 10,000 TUITION, doesn't include housing on campus which is REQUIRED the first year, bringing your TOTAL costs up to about 25,000-27,000 a year. this is at UCSC, it costs more to live on other campuses then it does here. idk about you, but 27,000 a year PLUS the 25000 is TOO MUCH!!!

Good point. Thank you for mentioning other costs besides tuition and fees. I've been seeing the little bit of media coverage of the protests but they never said anything about room and board. The opportunity cost for attending college is also a very high one but it varies so significantly.

32% is a big fee hike, but the State of California is bordering on insolvency and the UC system still offers an education that rivals or surpasses most private universities at less than half the cost. Those attending a UC school are still getting a bargain. Some may need to get a job to help cover costs and many may have loads of student loans that they pay after school, but the math still pays off for most professions.

Wow, the cops in L.A. are totally lame. At UC Davis there was only one officer casually walking with the students in a regular, everyday uniform. I'm about to graduate and my advice is go to a local junior college for your general education first. Then transfer to a university for you upper division courses.
