  • when he thumps, he plucks with the other fingers, so it sounds fast. But thats not all he uses, he taps, i know how to do that to, my dad taught me

  • @Purejose - Yeah but its how he applies all his abilities that counts bud

  • there is smoke coming from the drummer's head

  • @Purejose

Haha, no... It is an open air Jazz Festival up in the Romanian mountains. They played around midnight and althought it was summer, the temperature was close to 32F (0C) by that time... Sweat + cold = steam, not smoke :). Anyway, the bass solo was simply amazing.. I was there, but didn't payed attention at the poor drummer...

  • yeah!

    this is THE LESSON!

  • Victor turns back to see the drummer, Dude this is my solo, i dont need the beat, I already have it. the drummer is messing the whole feeling of the song.

  • I could sit 24 hours a day watching this guy!!! So Amazing!!!<3

  • @FrostiePigeon im pretty sure its a bass chord. for example a high D octave with an A in the middle (should be three notes, D A and D in that order) but in this case he (in whatever key he is in) is (in the key i showed you) playing a D A C# instead.

  • lol there's smoke coming from the bald guy's head :p

    insane skills anyway

  • this is fucking ridiculous how can u do so much on a bass

  • Technical Funkcore!!!!

    makes me dreamin

  • i was there, it was just amaizing!

  • Nice piccolo bass? Or just tenor?

  • beats me!! I use 50mm strings =)

  • omg!!! i love this!!!!

  • What did Anthony do in the beginning with the peg? It didn't really sound like he changed the tuning of the string at all.

  • it all in the stubby fingers

  • Victor Wooten......El mejor......

  • I saw him Live twice...He is just Genius on the bass...He doesn't need to look at the neck...He just feel it! He is one of the GREATEST bass player ever live! GROOVE - GROOVE - GROOVE

  • How thick should the strings be in order for him not to master them like a Spanish guitar? Thick as a python? :D Saw him live once, he's great, respect!

  • zeu

  • Simplesmente - Victor Wooten

  • i like how he holds a quick conversation and doesnt miss a beat

  • @TBITB He teaches you how to do that in his DVD 'Groove Workshop', it's pretty great :)

  • When did he get the black bass? Is it another Fodera or something else?

  • ya its a fodera. it has the butterfly on the top of the headstock.

  • It's a Fodera, I guess he got it when he started his new album

  • no he's had it for a while. ive seen some other videos of him playing it in korea.

  • Um dia eu ainda vou tocar mais Que esse cara!!!!!!

  • Anybody knows the song´s name?

    Thanks!

  • It's The Lesson from the Palmystery album ^^

  • yeah, it was just cold.

  • Thanks.

  • Can someone please explain to me why the drummers HEAD IS SMOKING???

  • its because the band is performing outside and all the heat is escaping from his head. its sort of like when u see your breath when its cold outside

  • Ahhh, thanks. I figured it was something like that.

  • How the heck did you notice that LOL.

  • Haha, all the knowledge in the world can be found on a drummer's head!

  • 6:38 seriously? wow...i dont even know what to say. holy crap!

  • Oh my god..... O_O

  • I couldn't even begin to have my mind think to create such a masterpiece. It would appear I have to get this book, not so much for the music but the information in the book.

  • i actually just ordered it after watching this. question tho, is this an actual song recorded on an album or something, or is this just a solo at the jazzfest? im wondering if i can get an album with this song on it

  • Yes it is a song on Victors' new album called "Palmystery". The song is called "The Lesson."

  • The book is completely amazing. It's worth a few reads too. It's a very deep book.

  • I would pay sooo much money to see him and Zakir Hussain do a bass/tabla duet/battle!

    Awesome!

  • YES!~ This should happen.

  • Zakir Hussain and Victor Wooten

  • What type of bass is he using? I don't think I've seen him use that one before.

  • It looks like a new Fodera, definitely a Tenor, cause his lowest open string is an A. He's actually up a fourth from the recorded version.

  • great video! i figured out the melody and the chords of the beginning.... vic is just THE MAN ^^

  • this is his song "the lesson" that is made of the music at the beginning of each chapter of his book. very nicely performed i must say. i tried to play it but it didnt sound like this lol

  • you tried to play it? does it mean you have the tabs/sheet music for this? =O

  • yeah i bought his new book "the music lesson" and at the beginning of each chapter there is a measure of the song. there's only like twelve chapters though, so most of this is improv solos and stuff. its in sheet music form, not tabs. when you put all the measures together, you get the basic melody with the chord changes written on top. i don't know how to put the chords into harmonics like vic, so i don't play it right. maybe one day...

  • was it a good book?

  • yeah, it is different from the normal music lesson books out there. first of all, it's in the form of a novel, not just notes and techniques. And it has a lot of info about music. It doesn't explain any of victor's techniques, but he shares his ideas of music that helped him perfect those techniques. His book is like his music: a little weird, but amazingly good. It made me a much better musician.

  • what's the name of this song, he performed this at north sea jazz this year.. it was amazing

  • The Lesson.

    It's on his CD Palmystery.
