well i'll be buggered .. one of Shaws .. yes its a 904 as the Shaws 908s ( which I drive ) have the square tanks with the full length steps .. I dunno what drugs ol mate who reckons their gear is clapped out is on .. Have been driving for them for 5 years and in that time our truck gets replaced with a brand new one every 2 years and if we write up faults they are always fixed .. I guess ol mate was pissed cause they dont have all the flash chrome n shit -
there are some trunpike in east allows double 48'. too bad california is too chickenshit to make our longer so we can save fuel and less trucks on road.
@sonor1993 The fact that hes at least 50 meters long, and hes going at least 70mph! In my country trucks are only allowed to be 25 meters long on the free ways and main roads, and 19 in the cities :D + They can only legally go like 55 mph
@sonor1993 these trucks are not allowed into many major cities. they mainly operate in open road areas with little traffic.
and the speed is not that quick. these trucks are factory governed to 100km/h and the road train speed limit is 90km/h.
a b double in australia can be 26 metres and they are allowed in almost any town but are restricted to certain routes. and 19 metres is the max length of a single trailer unit in australia and they can go anywhere.
that looks like it would be interesting to do. ive never even pulled twins before, but 4 and 5 trailers, looks like fun. but i just pull the same old 53 footer.
Hubby drives that exact truck or one of them. They are 904s powered by cummins. Come out of Sydney, Perth, Darwin and Brisbane. All the road trains are basically the same length, just over 52mtrs definitely not small, Just over size of olympic swimming pool but other road trains are configured differently. Instead of 3 trailers you might have 4 or 5 shorter ones especially for the mining industry. She sits comfortably on 98kms an hour pulling the three trailers. Plenty of grunt.
I live in Canada and i heard from some guy here that theres trucks out in Aus. that pull 7 or 8 trailers at a time, was this guy bullshittin me or what?
Nope, that was a small road train, the reason they work so well in the outback is because most of the roads are straight and thers bugger all between the towns.
53.5 metres is the max length for a road train. Only in a drought can they be longer to move livestock. 7 or 8 trailers is bullshit I think. Up to 4 is normal, 5 or 6 woud be very unusual, besides a truck can only cope with so much weight no matter how low it is geared.
53.5 meters is the longest length you can be that can be made up of what ever trailer combination you like 3 curtain siders or fridge vans or up to 5 or 6 tippers

shaw's rigs are speed limited. Don't need cowboys in these beauties. You don't FLOOR these trucks when you are privileged to drive one.
