That is just like saying that I deserve a cut of profits from all the tour groups that go to see Uluru, simply because I am an Australian citizen and Uluru is a part of my country. We are not a communist country, therefore the minerals belong to whoever has bought the land that they exist upon... If you want to buy that land and pay to mine it, go ahead!

@samkun88 it's the LAW. Since 1855 ,in Australia, all minerals belong to the Crown in right of the State. No freehold title since then can confer ownership of the minerals themselves. that's why mining companies have to obtain exploration licences and leases to mine anything. having an opinion is one thing , being completely wrong is another.

The mining companies only have a lease (which is like a licence) to mine- they don't own the land usually, and even if you do own the land, you have to get permission to mine. Amazingly, governments in Australia continue to grant mining rights to mining companies, even when the land is prime agricultural or threatened environmental land and belongs to someone else or even undermines geographic structures in national parks!

Miners have mass capital, hence the reason they stand to make so much, them being in that position hasn't happen by chance. They are not stupid and are not going to be taxed twice by AUS when else where in the world are much more welcoming to the other gains mining provides
