I remember the LA riots on my Mom's B-day (April 29th) she's a native of Redondo Beach in the 1950s then Garden Grove in the 1960s, she grew up first in an area where she knew some Black, Hispanic, Asian (including a family who were in Manzanar during WW2), Pacific Islander & American Indian neighbors. The way Cal. used to be more comfortable with racial diversity, now all I hear about is more segregation & racial enclavism, esp. Blacks move out of urban areas they moved in around the 1950s. +

Remember the PD is nowhere near as many people as an entire city. in terms of Katrina, cops couldn't do anything the streets were flooded. @calchick82 I don't think they even cared. I remember this time too. I was 15 and very happy when the National Guard stepped in. I remember the first day I was actually able to step outside of my apartment, it just didn't seem real, but here we were in a L.A. that was now changed. I actually couldn't wait to get back to school, but got yelled at by my bus driver who had been looting. He didn't remain my bus driver for long.
