  • this is so cool!!!

  • Is it just me or did they have long noses in the anime series?

  • @MuKo18 their noses are unusually long in the series too

  • Why are people bringing Avatar into a discussion about Escaflowne, there nothing alike, about as similar as Duke Nuken and My little Pony.

  • @CornishCreamtea07

Exactly. One's an awesome show full of badass characters, the other is some ridiculous video game no one remembers.

  • From what I can see by this trailer, the T.V. show was WAY BETTER. The only thing I didn't like about the TV show was the ending

  • Just rented the movie and I'll watch it tonight!!!!

  • i like vans character from the series better!!

  • Is this an old anime as in older than Inuyasha?? is the series still out on the internet??

  • sango and mirku form inyasha the voice acters. love it.

  • Mmmm love me some lord Vaughn. Escaflowne was sick and still is

  • I remember, I saw this on [adult swim] YEARS ago, and had to have it. It took me forever to find the DVD too. But it's still one of my favorites. Such a fun anime to watch!

  • I watched the series and I watched the movie. The series was lovely!<333

The movie was good too but the plot was a bit...odd. Oh well, it was still good.

  • series was good, but not enough eps and shit ending!! no kiss and they dont even stay together..in my opinion pointless!

as for the move.........it should have a different name as its about something completly different and the characters are completely different except having the same name!

only good thing about the movie was that allen looked soooooooooooo much hotter! lol poor vaulcan though! completely ruined his character!

  • Japanese voice cast is way better.

  • Ambiguously brown people in anime

  • avatar was whack! its Pocahontas in space!

  • woah I just finished watching the anime and crave more escaflowne goodness, but it's trippy seeing the same dub voices with these different character designs, lol.

  • Should I watch the film or the show? Does it actually get deep?

"A story you'll never forget." Really?

  • @yarow122 the anime is great and much better than the movie, the movie has awsome animation and soundtrack is great but the story is it's only flaw, it's not that deep.

You ought to watch them both since the universes in both movies ar different from each other.

  • Just finished the anime and it is AWESOME. It's only 26 episode, not enough in my opinion but definitely worth it.

  • Metropolis is one of the greatest fucking animes ever. holy shit.

Escaflowne is also an awesome movie.

anything by Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli is also amazing...

  • i just always love escaflowne even before when i was young...love it more and more...sugoi....

  • *goes to download immediately*

  • The series is so much better than the movie

  • so dose this movie tie into the anime at all?

  • @EzioAditory I think it's the remake, based on the series itself.

  • @nsjong i i thought it took place after the show

  • Avatar isn't fit to lick Escaflowne's ____s.

  • The series was better :/

I liked the movie anyway, but my favorite is still METROPOLIS!!

  • @vomoka121313 yep Metropolis is the best anime EVER!!!!! unarguably

  • i second the peter jackson suggestion. avatar was rubbish.

  • Story-wise, this movie is a piece of crap compared to the series.

  • @doanjoey

Maybe if you like soppy, meandering, melodramatic shoujo romance stories. Otherwise the movie is much better in every way.

  • @kingjamie2 Ha, better how? Besides animation, budget, and action, the movie is inferior. The story is in shambles, confused, disjointed, and the pacing is not good.

The heroine is not a level-headed, confident girl like in the TV series but rather is suicidal, wimpy, and just emo on too many levels. Not to mention she has wings (???).

Don't get me wrong, the movie is alright and I was not expecting a replacement for the TV series. But it only gets 7/10 instead of 9/10 for the show.

  • @pratt123

The story in the tv series is a meandering, melodramatic mess. Isaac newton has a machine capable of manipulating fate itself, and to what end does he use this device? To make Hiomi kiss Allen so Van will be upset.

Escaflowne the tv series is filled with laughable, soppy, melodramatic, shoujo romance rubbish like this.

Also Hitomi is clearly far more whiny, soppy and annoying in the tv series than the movie, where she's like cool as a cucumber by comparison.

  • @kingjamie2 I won't be able to get this all in one comment so please read them all like I did. I was not intending to respond at all, but the claims you made are too silly to do that. I don't fault your love of the movie but rather your hatred of the TV series.

First of all, good thing that most Escaflowne fans think the TV show is better than the movie. Ditto for professional reviewers. Of course there are always a few loonies in the fandom.

    More to come.

  • @kingjamie2 The fate machine was used to do that because Dornkirk (remember spoilers, dude) could not see his future when Hitomi and Van were close. (emotionally, physically, etc.)

Did you even watch the show?

As for the shoujo romance, that is a critical quality of Escaflowne. To say you don't want that is like saying you want war without death.

The Hitomi in the show is much more realistic and likeable than the movie, where she is a emo, whiny, clingy girl with no good reason either.

  • @kingjamie2 Continuing from my previous post, the best way to summarize this movie is that it is like a decent fanfiction. With all the pros and cons.

  • @pratt123

finally, art direction, animation direction, action direction, etc. are a huge part of how enjoyable any visual piece of storytelling is. The fact that Escaflowne the movie understandably outclasses the tv series in every one of these aspects is hardly inconsequential.

  • @kingjamie2 The fights in the movie are nice (especially the opening scene with Van falling out of the sky) but they are just eye candy. There is no emotional moments, conflicts/struggle, or gravitas with those fights. (The exception might be near the end when Van meets the Big Bad of the movie).

Having just eye candy in a movie that is mostly fluff for a plot, has painful characterization that copies every stereotype in the book, and plain disjointed pacing makes this movie worse by a lot.

  • @pratt123

Oh, I forgot to say the film isn't great. It has a non-ending but I'd till rate it higher than the tv series.

movie: 7 out of 10. tv series:3 or 4 out of ten.

  • Does this movie make sense if you watch the show?

I tried watching this recently and had to turn it off halfway because I had no freaking idea wtf was going on.

  • @someguyoutthere110

It's different in some fundamental ways. I'd recommend watching the series first.

  • @Andreazor this is a shorter movie edition of the whole story? basically a retelling?

  • @jcudal32

Yes. Though I don't actually know wether the series or the movie is more true to the original story, but they are a bit different, and the movie is the series made short basicly.

  • @jcudal32 This is a retelling (alternate universe) but it is missing most of the storylines (except for saving Gaea / mastering Escaflowne, blah, blah, blah) and the scale of the series. The true story was the series which really is a labor of love by the creators if you watch it. The show is less violent and gratuitous than the movie but does a much better job of sucking you into the world each episode creates.

    Movie Rating = 7 / 10

    Series Rating = 9.6 / 10

  • @pratt123 thank you for clearing this up for me. I have been really confused about this after watching both the show and the movie. I agree I do like the series better then the movie.

  • @someguyoutthere110 YES!! Definitely give the show a try. Now, I must warn you that if you simply hated the movie, the TV series will only hold your attention for a few episodes.

But if you don't like the movie due to a lack of understanding, the TV series will explain everything to you in a logical, clear manner with plot revelations. There are multiple storylines that move fast but they all have good detail, good dialogue, and good presentation which lends a epic tone to a epic journey.

  • I just bought this movie, but out of my brother and my dad, I was the only who understood the story. The story was simple explained in a confusing way.

  • wuaa es raro escucharlo en ingles pero se entiendi perfectamente parace que mi ingles auditivo mejora ...^^

  • i watched both the series and the movie (in that order) i found both to be respectively dope.

  • This movie is so much darker then the series. When i first watched the movie, i was disappointed that it was a continuis of the series :\ but it was a good movie over all ^^

  • The series is WAY better than the movie...if you watched the series the movie is kind of confusing and it misses big parts from the series...i recommend watching the series.

  • @SabreGirl716 I thought the movie had great fighting sequences but the series was better overall...

  • @artifical Me. This was my first anime, though I just thought it was a weird fun cartoon at the time. Though, Fox Kids heavily edited and cut large parts of the anime out. They did do a good job on the English intro.

  • similar drawing style and opening to princess mononoke

  • @Peglegkickboxer I love this movie and Princess Mononoke, but in my opinion Princess Mononoke was better than Escaflowne

  • This movie made no sense at all. They rush everything in the movie too much.

  • I love this movie. LOVE

  • WOW....I've literally been looking for this anime for like 3-years. I kept spelling the damn name wrong..

  • the movie was ok but i can't get it in my head as much as the series....i've watched the series once and i remember most of the things that happened but it's not the same with the movie, which i've watched 4X

  • Hey guys, just checkt this movie, its AWESOME, any recomendations on similar anime movies? in the fantasy genre similar to this movie? verry much looking for some, thanx in advance!

    anime movies I recomend and enjoyed so far include-Vampire hunter D,Vexille,Tekkon Kinkreet,Ninja Scroll,Afro Samurai,Kamui no ken,everything Studio Ghibli,FFVII - Advent Children,Cowboy Bebop,A Tree Of Palme,Sword Of the Stranger,Brave Story,Origin,Spriggan,Paprika,Akira,Fist Of The North Star

  • @ImmortalDragon Idc Who frickinn' directs a so called 'live action Escaflowne Movie' ....The TV show was the BEST idc who you are or what opinion you have, it's true. And to screw it up a second time by makeing it live action?! That's an anime sin! Escaflowne was meant to be a-one time deal.... look this up folks, Escaflowne the Movie wasn't made by the same people as the TV show... so there.

  • My god. This is awefull in English.

  • Like most of the animes xDDD

  • I watched the entire series on fox and own most of the episodes, but i didnt like the movie, especially the ending. Sigh*

  • I love this movie,I 'll have to watch it again.I have never watched the series.

  • i dont like it cuz, its just a different story and plus von and hitomi dont even kno eachother which they should this is so lame :@

  • Wish James Cameron would direct an escaflowne live action film, he'd be the perfect director for it.

Who agrees? Avatar was freaking sweet btw.

  • @ImmortalDragon Same here. I would also love to see The Director who made Escaflowne: The Movie with all the good old special effects in it did a remake of Avatar in Anime since his style of drawings and 2D-3D mixed in together would be perfect.

  • I couldn't disagree more. Anime to live action is nearly never a good transfer, and Escaflowne would be among the most disappointing I'm sure. James Cameron? Why? lol

  • @ImmortalDragon i hope he wouldnt americanize it though :D but yeah.. it'd be great

  • @ImmortalDragon fuck avatar

  • @ImmortalDragon

Seriously? You want Hollywood to rape more great concepts? When the fuck will people realize that Hollywood can't bloody do justice to something like this with a fucking movie?

  • @ImmortalDragon Peter Jackson would be better. I'm not a fan of Lord of the Rings outside of RotK, but the middle-ground aesthetics definitely feel just like Escaflowne... and with Jackson producing Blomkamp's District 9 recently, he obviously has a familiarity with mech battles now. That's just me, though. I like Cameron's older work, but his storytelling has been awful with Titanic and Avatar.

  • @ImmortalDragon WRONG! James Cameron fails at all. Get Ridley Scott to direct it.

  • @GarlandFraser When has Ridley Scott ever directed a good action movie? Blade Runner was the best thing he ever did, and that was a sci-fi noir.

  • @DavidTRichard If you are ignorant of the movie Alien, or think that James Cameron's "Aliens" was a superior film to the original, than I pity you.

  • @DavidTRichard He directed Kingdom of Heaven too...

  • @ImmortalDragon Or Peter Jackson :)

  • @ImmortalDragon Avatar was not sweet and it should not be degraded by being brought into live action when it is perfectly fine animated.

  • @TaruSpirit considering they made that comment a year ago..i don't feel like they were talking about the avatar live action..though i agree with you about the avatar live action x.x Katara had no hair loopies! D:<

  • @Freya1x When I said Avatar I was talking about the James Cameron movie and when I said that is shoudl not be degraded by being brought into live action I was talking about Escaflowne.

  • @ImmortalDragon agreed plus i really like this reboot

  • @ImmortalDragon No. Peter Jackson. Look what he did with Lord of Th Rings. I don't need Allen suddenly having a magic ponytail and Dilandau running around hugging trees. Fuck Avatar. T2 was the greatest thing he ever did.

  • @Jormungandor Yes, because a director's atomatically gonna bring elements from some completely unrelated work and shoehorn them into another project. Going by that logic, can we expect Peter Jackson to add some fast food alien tycoons and puppets?

  • @AwesomelyAwsome You mad bro?

  • @Jormungandor No, I'm sarcastic.

  • goddess of "highly advanced technology" goes to the time of primates. wow very boring

  • this looks amazing! so going to watch it.

  • EScaflowne is the best anime ever

  • I WANT TO SEE THIS BAD

  • bah! the trademark escaflowne music started way too late in this trailer.

  • Comment removed

  • The whole Movie is also on youtube.

  • Ive been looking ; ; but cant find the movie in english D:

  • @asakura1souri :( same

  • I love the series..I want to see the movie but where can I find it online?

Can you anyone please tell me the link..

    thanks..

  • They Have it On Amazon

  • i got the one of amazon stupidly enough without checking the region but basicly the movie is only out on region one sadly

  • this looks like a good movie and i could understand if it is different fans wont like it....but i havnt seen or ever herd of the show. would it be even more enjoyable as a fresh minded viewer??

  • The series might be better in terms of plot, etc, but the movie has some dope imagery. Seriously, I just like it for the artwork.

  • The series and the movie are very different in plot and tone. I have seen both and I prefer the series, but the movie is pretty good, too (I actually saw the movie long before I watched the show.) The movie is much darker than the show. If you're going to watch only one, I recommend the show.

  • this was a good movie, the series just has a better development in the characters, and the movie has WAY, WAY better character designs.

    NOBUTERU YUKI!!

  • I didn't find this bad. I still prefer the series, with the fox kids opening theme. Give it a rent.

  • Looks like sasuke copied someone XP

But I loved this movie. It was great

  • what is the song at 1:11? anyone know??

  • Escaflowne Original Sound Track - Dance of curse II

  • what is better movie or a sires ???

  • Fans of the serial hates the movie. It's a great movie but very disturbing when you know the original show because everything changes in it : story, characters... All seem the same that in the original show, but all is deeply different. Darker, heavier, colder. But it's great, anyway.

  • yeah, it definitely looks like they've changed everything about it from the series. i've enjoyed watching the entire series, but i'm thinking about watching the movie anyways.

  • Great choice ! But be prepared to see something else than you can espect... The body of Escaflowne, the soul of something else...

  • in escaflowne the movie it's the same story like in the serial. nothing new.

  • dude,the year 2000 really had some interesting films(If I am correct?)

where can I get this movie??looks beter than akira

  • what is the different in Vision Of Escaflowne in Escaflowne only?!!!

  • vision is the series....just escaflowne is the movie

  • they should make a relistic version of this

  • Yeah, that would great! But if whoever is going to do it should do it right. (not like the new Dragonball film that is coming, out. -.-; )

  • WOW

    this is really

    old

  • The opening sequence of the movie detonated my mind into little tiny pieces. I never got into the series but the movie was something else. Especially for the fights.

  • I guess the reason the body armour is "organic" and "alive" is probably again due to the fact that they wanted to make this more "realistic" for the movie. Like they mentioned in the movie, these suits need the blood of a Draconian to run. Either way, still one of my all time favourite series and I love both the series and the movie despite the changes they've made with the movie. I was pretty impressed with the way they've designed the characters and animated the movie though.

  • i seen the movie its great to me, i still have to see the series tho.

  • sorry also - what I meant about closer to reality is that they still use horses and sword, spears etc. instead of massive cable launching, cloaking robots :)

  • the creators of the movie more or less decided to creat an entirely new story line probably to make it closer to reality... yah... big gigantic biomechanical robot running around... that's DEFINATLY closer to reality HA HA. still, I heard the movie was actually well done (never seen it my self, but have read alot about it though...probably watch it just to see what the hype is about.)

  • I revisited and watched the entire seriers this past week, might I say Escaflowne is an anime show! (keep in mind I watched "The vision of escaflowne" all 26 eps.) Anyways, I knew there was a movie, and after watching this trailer I've decided not to watch it. It's all too different. I'll pass.

  • Escaflowne... movie? Wtf? By the looks of the trailer, it's like an entirely separate story, but with the same characters.

I'll have to check it out.

  • Why is the movies escaflowne(talking about the guymelef) like all oraganic? Its not like all machine like the series but theres like wierd drills to get ur blood and wierd things that strap to ur arms n legs like somethin alienish thats not machine at all?

  • the Move was quite different then the Show not just the Chracters and they did some different freaky stuff like Chesta and the rest of Dilandous Dragonslayers could for see things like Hitomi and Millerna hair was brown reddish hair and her sister Erise her Father King Austin her nephew Prince Chid Duke Fried Erya and Narya and Dornkirk wern't in it i wonder why

  • this is what i call art...

  • Best anime movie EVER.

  • Sweeeeeeaaaaat!!

  • they said i wont forget but im starting too oh no

  • does anyone have the movie or the final episode uploaded??? Please! I just started watching this series and it's amazing. Someone message me or reply or something. I need to see it!

  • cool... xDDD

  • coooooool

  • LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

Miroku and Sango's VA's XD perfect....

    I love Van's Japanese VA though ^^

  • ya i luv vans voice.. but in the movie.. y is he all barbaric and wierd... ya its sango and miroku.. but in the movie.. isn't this just a diffrent longer version of the story.. hes barbaric and shes never been to gaya ( cent spell it) and he doesn't know her but he'lldo her bidding..

  • I love Van's Japanese VA, but I love how he sounds in English too. Escaflowne is one of the very few animes I can stand watching in its dubbed form. Tomokazu Seki(Van's Japanese VA) and Maaya Sakamoto(Hitomi's Japanese VA) are fantastic though, definitely.

  • yup, it is sango & miroku. i LOVE Van's voice! better than the japanese VA, i daresay. i dont have qualms with dubs (unless theyre exceptionally awful, and in this case, it totally isnt)... ive seen this movie in jap and i wanna see it in english now.

BTW! im in the process of uploading the whole series (subbed)! check my channel for details. :D

  • i wanna see this D= does anyone have it uploaded??

  • no no wait. i hear sango and miroku....kinda a coincidence xD

  • haha i hear miroku xD

  • ummm... does anyone think that van is a little too much like sasuke? i mean with the kill older brother and get revenge, restore clan/county thing?

  • Well, the escaflowne series has been created in 1996, Van was born before Sasuke ^^ So the fact is: Sasuke is a little too much like Van XD

  • i agree, is better in japanese

  • its ok if its in english since the tne have fans around the globe who doest know japanese

  • Is better in japanice

  • trop fan
