I love this dance, Janette lends a special quality to her movement that is out of this world and I just loved this piece, but what I like the most about this dance is the way she can transform herself to perform a style that is not her main atribute and make it her own. Brilliant!!!!!.
I don't know what program this is or from which country. I'm here by accident but that dance was amazing. She's so free, expressing herself in not limited by classical style of dancing. This is more like artistic performance than a dance. Loved it.
She can dance anything, brilliantly! I wonder if she choreographed this herself. It's great choreography. But the dancer makes the dance, and Janette is eloquent. She was the best of SYTYCD season 5.

my friend know her from dance competitions and she said that she really is contemporary, but she claims she is ballroom because so many contestants audition as contemporary dancers and she wanted to stand out. She also lied about her age...she is really twenty-something but she claims to be much younger. It's unfortunate that such a great, talented dancer has to be such a competitive animal.

She was robbed. When they gave her Evan, I knew she was screwed. Why is Evan still on the show? Stop voting for "cuteness" because I still think Brandon and Ade are way cuter than him. And they're much better dancers too. I also thought it was hilarious how all the females basically thought of Evan as the weakest partner and did NOT want to partner with him at all. If he wins, it's an insult to other dancers.
You think is Evan is a better dancer than Ade or Brandon? People talk about his great broadway "performance qualities" but I still don't see it. He's been mediocre in BOTH of his broadway routines (the one with Randi, the one with Melissa). Sure, he has cool solo's, but it's the same old, same old. At least Ade switched his between hip-hop and lyrical. I suspect BOTH Brandon & Evan will thrown under the bus next week to ensure a female winner. It'd be hilarious to see Evan try a Krump.
Stupid movements by Ade? You mean original movements-his own style. I love Brandon too but let's be honest, he ONLY does power moves and gymnastics in his solo's, at least Ade actually emotes through his dance. Evan...ugghh...I can't believe he's still there in the top 4. If you look at Brandon's reaction when it is announced Evan made the finale, Brandon put on a fake smile but you could see he was thinking "WTF?! How did Evan make it?"
Janette does do contemporary. She was at my competitions because I live in Miami as well and comtemporary was all she competed in. She wouldn't have been able to do as well as she did if she didn't specialiZe in contemporary as well as salsa. The only reason why she doesnt have amazing lines is because she dances at dancetown and they have good performers who know a lot of tricks but they are lacking in technique.
Nigel keeps saying that her bio says salsa dancer. Like that's all she has done. Turns out she has done ballet, contemporary, tango, and broadway. I love SYTYCD, but they shouldn't lie to us about the true background of the contestants.
She shakes her butt and kicks. She would make a good stripper. No matter what style she does or training the competition should be judge on how well they dance. All the others do more difficult stepd.
When dancers call themselves contemporary dancers we have an idea that they have some sort of experience with other sytles...lyrical, jazz, hip hop they all belong in the same family. Ballroom/salsa is so different. Its just annoying that Janette says she is more of a salsa dancer when it seems like she has equal training in diff. styles. Also judges judge you differently according to your style! Didn't you guys hear Nigel this week about Janette, "You're doing so well for a SALSA dancer!!!!!!"

With dance experts as judges and back ground check, I am sure the judges know that Janette has some training in contemporary. I am sure Nigel is aware of that fact. But he still considers Janette a salsa dancer instead of a contemporary dancer is because he (and the rest of the so you think you can dance team) knows that Janette does not have equal training in contemporary.
One more point I want to bring up. All the dancers on the show have to work with choreographers in Vegas week and during the show. These choreographers are one of the best in the industry. They can definitely tell if the dancers have training in contemporary or any other style. From this video, I think Janette is a great contemporary dancer, but I have to agree with Tiny Penguin that she is not doing a lot of Jumps and tricks here
What she is showing in this piece here is great flexibility, understanding of music, momentum and movement. These are also quality that Salsa dancers have. What she is not showing here as a contemporary dancers are the tricks and jumps. Those movements required a lot of technique and strength in order for jumps to come out clean. and those are the things that dancers on the show that considered themselves contemporary do. I think it is more than fair that Janette is a salsa dancers.
Erm if you actually watch the show i hope you notice she hasn't shown any of the spectacular lines/jumps/turns/moves that contemporary dancers usually do. Wouldn't you think she would have done that if she had as much training as them o.0 im sure all dancers have tried something out of their style once in a while, but not at the point of specializing in everything.
Without those turns and leaps that contemporary dancers do, she still makes this piece wonderful. No wonder she is doing so well in sytycd this season.

This is not some training, it's a lot of training!!She said in the interview that she is not at they're level in contemporary, that's not true, she's at the same level they are!She's either lying or is too hard on herself. I love her as a dancer though and I hope she makes it far. She definately has the advantage of being well train in ballroom and contemporary, which is rare.
I think she's too hard on herself. I've never seen her do the leaps or the jumps (the tricks) the other contemporary dancers do, so maybe she thinks because she lacks those skills she isn't up to par with them in the contemporary realm.
Just because shes salsa doesnt mean she only knows one style... duh. its like saying the contemporary dancers never took hip hop classes or any other classes.
I think she looks fantastic. She makes a great contemporary dancer as well. Her "expetise" is salsa but looks like she has had training in contemporary as well. Can't wait to see her and Brandon do a contemporary routine on the show. Think even more than the Cha Cha that can be an absolutely FANTASTIC routine to see them do. She is certainly in the top 5 girls this season

Stupid movements by Ade? You mean original movements-his own style. I love Brandon too but let's be honest, he ONLY does power moves and gymnastics in his solo's, at least Ade actually emotes through his dance. Evan...ugghh...I can't believe he's still there in the top 4. If you look at Brandon's reaction when it is announced Evan made the finale, Brandon put on a fake smile but you could see he was thinking "WTF?! How did Evan make it?"

Janette does do contemporary. She was at my competitions because I live in Miami as well and comtemporary was all she competed in. She wouldn't have been able to do as well as she did if she didn't specialiZe in contemporary as well as salsa. The only reason why she doesnt have amazing lines is because she dances at dancetown and they have good performers who know a lot of tricks but they are lacking in technique.

Nigel keeps saying that her bio says salsa dancer. Like that's all she has done. Turns out she has done ballet, contemporary, tango, and broadway. I love SYTYCD, but they shouldn't lie to us about the true background of the contestants.

When dancers call themselves contemporary dancers we have an idea that they have some sort of experience with other sytles...lyrical, jazz, hip hop they all belong in the same family. Ballroom/salsa is so different. Its just annoying that Janette says she is more of a salsa dancer when it seems like she has equal training in diff. styles. Also judges judge you differently according to your style! Didn't you guys hear Nigel this week about Janette, "You're doing so well for a SALSA dancer!!!!!!"

With dance experts as judges and back ground check, I am sure the judges know that Janette has some training in contemporary. I am sure Nigel is aware of that fact. But he still considers Janette a salsa dancer instead of a contemporary dancer is because he (and the rest of the so you think you can dance team) knows that Janette does not have equal training in contemporary.

One more point I want to bring up. All the dancers on the show have to work with choreographers in Vegas week and during the show. These choreographers are one of the best in the industry. They can definitely tell if the dancers have training in contemporary or any other style. From this video, I think Janette is a great contemporary dancer, but I have to agree with Tiny Penguin that she is not doing a lot of Jumps and tricks here

What she is showing in this piece here is great flexibility, understanding of music, momentum and movement. These are also quality that Salsa dancers have. What she is not showing here as a contemporary dancers are the tricks and jumps. Those movements required a lot of technique and strength in order for jumps to come out clean. and those are the things that dancers on the show that considered themselves contemporary do. I think it is more than fair that Janette is a salsa dancers.

Erm if you actually watch the show i hope you notice she hasn't shown any of the spectacular lines/jumps/turns/moves that contemporary dancers usually do. Wouldn't you think she would have done that if she had as much training as them o.0 im sure all dancers have tried something out of their style once in a while, but not at the point of specializing in everything.

Without those turns and leaps that contemporary dancers do, she still makes this piece wonderful. No wonder she is doing so well in sytycd this season.

This is not some training, it's a lot of training!!She said in the interview that she is not at they're level in contemporary, that's not true, she's at the same level they are!She's either lying or is too hard on herself. I love her as a dancer though and I hope she makes it far. She definately has the advantage of being well train in ballroom and contemporary, which is rare.

I think she's too hard on herself. I've never seen her do the leaps or the jumps (the tricks) the other contemporary dancers do, so maybe she thinks because she lacks those skills she isn't up to par with them in the contemporary realm.

I think she looks fantastic. She makes a great contemporary dancer as well. Her "expetise" is salsa but looks like she has had training in contemporary as well. Can't wait to see her and Brandon do a contemporary routine on the show. Think even more than the Cha Cha that can be an absolutely FANTASTIC routine to see them do. She is certainly in the top 5 girls this season
