  • No Sound

  • WOW best sound ever......was this in Flac ?

  • no sound-wtf

  • Can't hear any sound here.

  • your playing was either so good or so bad it blew out my speakers

  • @loverofpie32 same here, what the FUCK happened....

  • ajajjaajjaajajaajajjjjaajjaaj

  • I have one question...is it possible to change pickups on this guitar and put the seymour duncan 2 alnico pro pickups???...because of size of pickups???

    sorry on my english???

    :/

  • not really blues except for one part. Your playing was definitely really good man!

  • Don't rape a goldtop in this way! Remember, she has a soul!

  • wow. I'm sorry, but that's not "magnificent tone" at all.

  • Nice sounding P-90's. Playing is good too...thanks.

  • What is the cost in euros of this guitar??

    Thanks.

  • @mariosmetradio

i`m not sure. the tokai guitar has become illegal in canada, but i think you can buy them without hassles in britain.

  • @mariosmetradio GIBSON GOLDTOP IS 1300 EURO / 1400 EURO SE VAI ALL'ESSEMUSIC DI MONTEBELLUNA FRIULI SENNO VERSO I 1500 1600 EPIPHONE LES PAUL GOLDTOP 560 600 EURO

  • nice playing but i'm not sure how one would call this blues...

  • I am looking to get some P90s and I am looking for the hottest, grindiest P90s available

    any suggestions?

  • I wouldn't call it 'blues' really, but it's a helluva blues-rock jam. You sorta lost the feeling in the beginning shred, but for the most part, you've got a very Slash-esque hard rock style going on. I approve.

  • Well played, keep 'em coming.

  • most these haters just envy. fuck em. the blues is the devils music and i think ya made him proud.

  • Man, if you think that's a magnificent tone, you need to get out more...

  • 0:37 = Bring It On Home off of Led Zeppelin II. I absolutely love that album

  • @tMattLZ YES. you are a man of fine taste. and this guy kinda messed up the riff.. :P

  • I grew up in Austin, knew SRV -used to talk to him after his gigs. He told me a joke that applies to all of you who are criticizing -

How many guitar players does it take to change a lightbulb? Answer: 12 - One to change it, 11 to stand around saying they could do it better. (get a life)

  • We said, pity how in every walk of life you have these bitter people spewing their hate for themselves on others specially when it comes to music when it's very essence is to bring people together. I've seen SRV in concert but never had the pleasure to met him. You are lucky, peace.

  • @buhmabee Not everyone hates themselves. I know it's a difficult concept for you because you think people just reflect what's inside themselves onto others. No! it's not hate for themselves, it's hate for others. Others are fucking retarded and give them the shits so they are treated with disdain and contempt. Some people really are total fuckwits, and they should be treated that way. This guy playing isn't one of them.

  • This could actually sound awesome with a backing track and the right chords along with good amp settings - however, this is more like hard rock rather than blues

  • Not too impressive....... Lacks taste.... Can you say noise?

  • Blues ??????? You call it blues ????? Have you ever heard some ? you should go slower and play with you heart instaed of speed "technic"....this guitar should be used that way .......great guitar !!!!!

  • habsfan..the amp is an ampeg v-4 100 watt tube amp dipshit.

as for the playing....post your own and let the other posters be the judge.

  • all that gain is just hiding the fact he isn't much of a player... and it sounds like a solid state amp, which makes every guitar sound like a 150 dollar piece of junk

  • SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @daydreamer96 Sounds kind of reminiscent of slash, and he's pretty bluesy, listen to johnny winter play, just cuz it's fast doesn't mean it's not blues.

  • That a Gibson or an Epiphone?

  • p-90s hum becuase they aren`t shielded like humbuckers...so keep them from neon lights and computer screens and you`ll be happy.

  • ZEPPELIN at :43 !!!!!!

Beautiful guitar... do the P90s hum a lot though?

  • no zeppelin starts at 38

  • epiphones p 90s do more

  • he puts up his middle finger at 0:06

  • bring it on home

  • Awesome!!!

    Grandma Mary

  • Comment removed

  • Nice playing man.

  • the jack...

  • good les paul

  • hmmmm so powerful that guitar is all i want......

  • Nice! I just bid on a set of his P90 custom wound pickups on the bay. What are yours wound to?

  • What the pickups are here? Gibson or other?

  • Damn right! Make it know who it's working for!!!

  • love the bring it on home bit at the end

  • was that first bend meant to be like that?

  • ...and this guitar is plugged through what amp? pedal?

  • more like shreding neither blues

  • epi or gibson??

  • epi gold top 56

  • thanks for the positive comments.......

    grunty.

    yeah.

  • Some nice tech playing !.

Would like to hear you with more feeling !.

    Grunty sound. :-)

  • FUCKING AMAZING

  • not sure what a bumblebee is but p-90s are single coil pick-ups that tend to be bright and edgey whereas humbuckers are double coils and tend to be warmer and resonant. it`s a matter of taste. there is no right or wrong, no matter what some say..........

  • whats the difference between P90s and humbuckers because i have bumblebees or something and they have too much mids

  • bumble bees are capacitors not pickups...and the difference between humbuckers and P90s is... HBs are rather warm, fat and beefy, mid-sounding pickups, while p90s push the heights and the lows and sound more lively and crystalic clear.

  • thanks bro....i appreciate the comments.

though, to johnmayer, i understand the facepalm bit, but as to questioning the blues thingy, it just shows one`s lack of understanding of the diversity of the genre.

take jimmy page or berne torme for instance, or pat travers. blues by heritage and roots, but rockers at heart.

goldtop blues is a tip of the hat to all that is great about fingers on the fretboard and passion for playing.

  • I really like tht zeppelin riff in there :P

  • sick video man u should probably get a better camera tho lol but nice playing

  • awesome video man and sweet goldtop

  • rock on dude it sounds awesome, ive been wanting a strat with a p90 p-up and to those who seem to be arguing over the sound of, well franly idk i dont think i went back enough pages to figure out what you guys are fighting about, JUST SHUT UP,AND START E-MAILING EACH OTHER INSTEAD OF CRAMMING THE COMMENTS SECTION WITH IT.

  • hey luke you did say that those guys didn't use distortion. but you slao correctly stated that their tones were OVERDRIVE. overdrive is different than distortion. rhody being being such a fantastic tech should know the difference. just because you work at guitar center and restring guitars doesnt make you a tech rhody. i'm lookin for a nice hand built guitar. what do you have? the whole debate comes down to this, shitty pickups sound like shit, good ones sound good.

  • Blues?

    *facepalm*

  • For RhodyHaze: Respect the others point of view...argue with them, but respect is the first thing.

So if you want to have at least a professional appearance, since you said you're a guitar tech and all, just don't insult people because they think in a different way from you. You lose in credibility and sound like an angry youtube-teenager (you know what I'm talking about).

Yours was such a pathetic reaction.

    Cheers.

  • Y'all are some angry bitches. cool it

  • oh 1 more thing lukeblueslover you wanna be retarded excuse for a musician i build guitars and im also a guitar tech and i repair peoples guitars and they pay me for this s i know more than you do hell ive probly forgotten more than you will ever know you stupid festering piece of shit and i would once again like to remind you that you are a dumbshit whos opinions have no basis and you have no buisness talking about anybodies tone and i repeat you are a dumbass !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Cool down mate, are you serious 'bout that?

I only said that a single coil with lots of distorsion usually sounds bad...but is still a problem in the sound settings, of course, you could play with some distorted humbuckers and sound like shit and maybe have a more interesting tone with a single coil (the first that comes into my mind is Tom Morello). As for the other bullshit I am too a guitar tech and they pay me for that...so it surprises me why you react this way...Such a stupid way.

  • also lukeblueslover you dumbshit ive seen yer video and you have no buisness talking about anybodies tone and yes a p90 is a single coil but i bet a p90has more copper wire on its single coil than any humbuckers have on both coils oh and did you know mr pickup expert the more overwound a pickup is the darker it sounds so if a p90 has more windings than a humbucker then it actually has a fuller sound than a humbucker with the added benifit of a better string attack and a punchier sound dumbass!!!

  • In the middle of all the "dumbass" "dumbshit" "piece of shit" and all, I've just read that thing about the p-90's. The "fuller" sound...after that there's no need to argue anymore. mmm Just wondering why they put two coils togheter to create the humbuckers since they could have overwound the single coils right from the beginning?Maybe only to avoid the cyclic hum?oh my god, that's a MISTRERY!

So it's still my opinion that have no basis?

At least on my side there are some unexceptionable truths

  • hey lukeblueslover you dumbass there are no physical limits that keep single coils from being used with high gain or from sounding good see what your expressing is called an opinion and a pretty stupid opinion at that the only diffrences from humbuckers and single coils sound wise is single coils have a tighter more focused bright sound where as a humbucker has 2 coils that provide a full dark sound

  • Thats not blues fucker, thats just technical bullshit, worthless.

  • I play a goldtop through a digitech Death Metal and a Boss Ds1 OD pedal because p-90's have a perfect balance of output and tone it sounds awsome for classic rock and grungy tones my HB equipped LP is for shredding, besides, each person should have their own sound even if the ampsucks.

  • liked the 2nd half especially...

  • beautiful guitar, gibson or epiphone, well done mate, what sort of amp u usin

  • I like your sound,The guitar is Epiphone or Gibson?The Pickups?The Amp?

    Said me,said me...Great sound.

    Thank you

  • no offense...but how can you tell that he has a good sound???the quality of the footage is much more than bad. And I've got a question for alistarirthegreat...why did you bought a p90 equipped guitar for that heavy dist. sound???

  • I kike blues, rock, hard rock, heavy metal, thrash metal,Doom, etc. You can play these styles with single pickups:Ritchie Blackmore,Yngwie Malsmsteen,my friend Fran...Etc.I like the alistairthegreat sound with P-90 pickups.I respect your opinion but the guitar sound have posibilities infinities.I use Marshall 800 and Gibson les paul custom with humbuckers,if I play heavy or thrash metal use Boss SD-1 too.

  • yes for shure, but they're isolated examples..blackmore and even malmsteen have a vintage-ish sound, surely blackmore's sound isn't comparable to the one of a metal guitarist with humbuckers on his instrument. And for good reasons, since the single coils are the first kind of pickups and they are, anyway, even if overwounded, not suitable for hi-gain settings, it's a physical limit. By the way, if you like his sound I respect that. Cheers

  • singe coils equipped witha high gain setting just sound so good you cant just say humbuckers are the only thing good for hi gain distortion stuff and hes not really playing metal its more classic rock, P 90's are perfect fpor that they just seem to scream and sound so nice with OD

  • no offense to him, but for me his sound insn't that good. And it's not a case that few people use single coils for hi-gain settings. And as I said it's a physical limit that heavy amounts of dist. sounds shitty and messy with a single coil.

  • well i play alot of hendrix and ray vaughan stuff and led zeppelin and they sound awesome on a strat with single coils

  • stevie ray vaughan never used lots of distortion...neither led zeppelin used "distortion" when page used a Tele (that is a completely diffrent guitar, even if also equipped with single coils), they used an overdriven/fuzz sound(for zeppelin) and hendrix had a completely diffrent sound... I have a strat and I know that guitar pretty well. I'm talking about HIS distortion, it has nothing to do with those sounds.

  • dude...do you have any idea what you are talking about at all? Yea Page used tones of distortion, so did Vaughan, have you ever even heard pride and joy or The Girl I loved?

  • what? Do you have ANY idea of the differences between Page and Vaughan tone??

    Incomparable

  • Yes i do know the difference between Page and Vaughan tone, and they are different, but what im saying is that they do use distortion on alot of blues tracks and its kinda ignorant to say they dont but i suppose in the long run it doesnt matter, no offense intended dude.

  • I never said they didn't use distortion man. Vaughan had a more overdriven sound and Page used distortion...but that's not the point, their sounds have nothing to do with the one in this vid. And that's all I'm saying.

    Cheers man

  • its a line6 , tolkai les paul goldtop with p90's i know because thats my dad playing

  • alistairthegreat.... great sound men, beuty guitar, its a gibson o epiphone men????

" el sonido es un poco pesado, o con mucha distorcion para el blues, pero bien ¡¡¡¡"

    nice guitar men

  • thanks powr......i shall keep rocking.

    words to live by.

  • Hey alistairthegreat, don't listen to the jerks out there. It's obvious that your just trying to give us an idea of the guitar sound, so screw the critics. I for one am glad you did it, cheap camera audio or not. Besides, who are these people? And who made them experts on the blues? The blues begat rock, and the modern guitarists can blend 'em all. To hell with the naysayers, keep rockin'/bluesin'/jazzin, or whatever!!!

  • Hey Michaelfender, the difference between P-90s and P-100 is that the P-90 is a single coil pickup, and the P-100 is a humbucker with stacked coils. The P-100 doesn't sound identical to a P-90, but is certainly less noisy, especially with distortion.

  • This is so cool. Reminds me of Led Zeppelin I've asked a few people, and it's probably a stupid question, but what's the difference between p100's and p90's?

  • haha! you call this blues?

  • ramus, thanks. that`s what i was attempting to achieve.

and for those who came looking for a more traditional approach to blues, i`m sorry to disappoint.

pinky? no need for such while playing simply.

  • great blues man. and nice gritty tone.

  • NOT blues

and what happenned at the end?

  • you'll open up a whole new window

if you start using your pinky when improvising

  • thanks craig.

  • nasty...i love it

  • good but that is DEFINATELY not blues

  • weltar, you live in a place that doesn`t include billy gibbons, jimmy hendrix or any other bluesman using grit and dirt from the soul.......

  • this is blues? man, where do i live?

  • ...and Led Zeppelin. "Bring it on Home"

  • That is not blues. That is some stupid shredding shit.

  • showw

    irado

    BRASILLL!!

  • Is that an Epiphone Gold Top? How noisy do the P-90's get with your distortion? I've heard they are quite noisy, but I've been thinking about getting a 56 Gold Top. Oh, Nice playing too.

  • uhm... sounds good but thats not blues, dude

  • absolutely.......

    and the laney is delicious.

do the niegbours share your joy?

  • hey, glad you like the pick-ups. i recently got my ampeg v-4 fixed so the p-90s sound magnificent and loud too. i run the risk of eviction now though......

  • i'm getting Jon to wind me a set of mini-humbuckers...i can't wait...i like your vid and playing by the way...i think the sound of p/u was pertty effectivly conveyed...if your poor like me you have to decide...microphones and PODS or pickups and tubes...thus far tubes has won out cause i like to play live, so i don't own any thing for a studio..thanks for posting...cheers

  • well thanks for the words of support. my individual style has allowed me the pleasure of working with guys like pat travers, rick santers and a little known guy called brad campbell, who played the bass for a little known female performer called janice joplin, who few people have heard of.

my recollection of playing statesboro` blues was at double speed through a marshall stack, and it was just fine for a room full of bikers.

  • You played guitar for a guy that played bass for Janice Joplin. No wonder you call yourself "the great"

  • n sry but youtube wouldnt let my post my comment in one shot xD

  • well... ill have 2 disagree w/ all those guys who try tellin you to change your style. sure blues is played almost clean by most blues artists. but u know. for me music is my way to express myself. i mean sure its great if you can play a solo like somebody else did before you. but for me thats just not the right thing to do. especially blues / bluesrock .. its about expressing your feelings. and i dislike ppl who think theyre great just cause they can play some song to the T

  • all great guitarists... whoever this might be to you... all of them didnt start out or developed their style by looking up tabs on the web. they didnt cover anybody elses work. and if they did, they did it their own way. so keep up your style. do it your way and express yourself... sounds like great work to me anyways. and dont tell me again i dont know what good music is like - i named the reason for my opinion and i told you what music means to me.

    keep it up.

  • i love awful tone, and sloppy playing is my favorite thing to do.

that and laughing at some of the opinions posted here by um, guitarists..........

relax people, it was recorded on a still camera with a piss little microphone and i bashed off a riff or two for my mate who builds pick-ups and wanted a clip for a client.......

keep the comments coming though, i like a laugh.

  • that's not blues

  • nice pickups. With less distortion it will sound more natural :)

  • hamish, thanks for the encouragement. maybe you would be good enough to post some of your playing when you get a moment.......

  • I'm going to agree with the other comments, boring playing, and way too much distortion.

The only way to become a good player is to realize when you make mistakes, you can't when you play with that much gain (which is the reason many shredders use a ton of it and crappy SS amps, to hide sloppiness).

Anyway, sloppy playing, and poor tone, sorry.

  • I have to agree with you hamish, awful tone and sloppy playing. You do have the skills but you're playing is just a bit all over the place, i think you jumping the gun trying to get the speed before the accuracy, trust me i know how it is i was the same. Well anyway, good luck.

    Cheers,

    Alan,

  • sounds good to me: Far better than I can manage!

  • sounds great, what amp you using?

  • the amp is a line 6 flextone with a slightly blown speaker, recorded with my camera so the quality is impaired somewhat, but it was a way to get the clip posted.......

it`s interesting how different people react to distortion.

i take the paul gilbert approach.....distortion is good.

if i want clean i`ll play acoustic.

  • "distortion is good" hehehe. I love p90's under heavy distortion. I have a Gibson LP Junior and it sings through an overdriven amp. My big amp is a 50Watt Laney GH50L which is like what Paul Gilbert uses.

  • distorsion sucks. You can have this tone with any peice of wood w/cheap mike

  • Bring it on home.... and take off your death metal distortion - P90s need to sing through a Vintage Tube Amp... Keep playing - loose the high gain distortion and let you hands create the tone.

  • no, actually it`s a tokai......

  • maybe cuz it is as epiphone...duh...its cool dude/...nice guitar like it...

  • play some clean licks....might sound better....right now it sounds like a cheap epiphone

  • what a dick! Nice tone!

  • nice guitar, but I don't find your playing interesting, to be honest.
