My Grandfather was in the Vietnam war and later moved into the CIA. Then after he return from a government trip to Russia, (still in the cold war) he died. They did no autopsy because he had some medical conditions,but even still i wonder what happened to him.

@coffeeandsoup They did no autopsy because he probably found out something he shouldn't have known while in russia and he was killed by either the U.S. government or a russian spy. This kind of stuff happens all the time.

@AmericanGMS as someone already said, some parents hate the fact their children want to go into the military. I can speak from experience. My mother, grandparents, and brother all did not want me to go, didn't think it was the place for me and objected to all end. But the moment they saw me walk across the parade deck the weekend before Christmas, they couldn't have been more proud. The Marines did not take the Castle of Chapultepec during the Mexican War. Soldiers assaulted and captured the castle. According to Marine Corps sources, the Marine Battalion was stopped short of the walls of Chapultepec. They then held their position and supported the assault by firing on the walls.

@99centt you must earn the rank of atleast CPL and then be deployed overseas it doesnt have to be combat but still u must be overseas atleast

@99centt The blood stripe is for NCO's and above. So as stated, once you hit Corporal, you receive your blood stripe. You don't have to deploy as SergeantJermy stated

I was board in rasied on an army base. But Loved the marines. Funny thing is I'm trying to enlist right now. I dropped 20 pounds and will do so much more just to earn this title. I dont care what people say or what people call me no one is stopping me. I'm going to be part of the best. I want to fight more than nothing and yes i am a female. I cut off pretty much all my hair just to get ready and workout full time and not have to worry about showering and show my pride for the usmc

Since my enlistment in 1991. I've been blown away by the ads and commercial support for Marines.

You joke and jive about other branches with movies, but every Marine based movie has been intense and with a serious over tone.

My brother is a Airborne/Ranger dork from Bragg. And then went to Special Forces.

We bumped heads in Panama at Howard AFB. And they had some 200 pounders and short timers. What a joke.

My brother is a 1st Sgt. now and still tells me, "I wish I joined the Marines."
