Always loved this song. I remember I was a young man at 19 when this song came out. Then many years later when I was 30 I got involved with some young 19 year old and she in turn loved this song too after I introduced her to it. ...always think of you Ana...
RIP, Robert. Loved your music. You'll always be beautiful to gaze upon and listen to. Has anyone else noticed his slight resemblance to a few different actors over the years, (Rob Lowe, James Cagney, Willem Dafoe & Russell Crowe)?
Why do people act like such pricks on YouTube? People would never talk like this to one another if face to face but a soon as you have anonymity people turn into assholes. We all have opinions but if a person's differs from your the first response shouldn't be "fuck-off" and immediate name calling. Enjoy the music and relax, it all good. Peace people!!!
@DustyKiss76 LOL....4 words and not one of them more than 4 letters. It is little wonder that you prefer the Placebo's version when you have an IQ in single figures. LOL
@heehawluck1 You wrote arse with an apostrophe... Why are you getting so adgitated about this? Defuse cretin, I prefer placebo's cover by far but that has no effect on you, now does it? I really didnt feel like gracing your fragile mind with more than 15 letters but shoot... here we are hu? Why dont you spend your time licking the soles of your shoes and see if you can make them shine, it would really be far less pointless than this.
@DustyKiss76 I didn't write arse with an apostrophe, I typed it with my finger. I'm not getting adgitated, not even agitated, LOL. Why the feck am I bandying words with a witless gobshite like you is beyond me. Don't get overly adgitated just because you don't have the wit to use a dictionary. LOL
@DustyKiss76 You really should learn to read over what you have written BEFORE you post it. It would stop you making such a damned fool of yourself. LOL '...so you should shut and and enjoy' ?? LOL
@possibly46 Yeah.. I know haha I know its more clasical but I just perfer how quick it is and that brians voice is higher, its just more my year I guess :) Its not that this ones bad
@DustyKiss76 Yep undertand; we are all of our moment but.. this is much more a 'musically sophisticated' version and capable of being heard in a more complex and multi-layered way. In the end its just a high quality pop song but it has great arrangement and.....all that jazz.....
@DustyKiss76 Yep understand; we are all of our moment but.. this is a much more 'musically sophisticated' version and capable of being heard in a more complex and multi-layered way that adds to my particular enjoyment.

I reckon in 88 when I secretly loved this song and she makes my day, I was the only 8yr old cranking it. 22 years later, its on my ipod and still being heard
I was in Paris at The Sorbonne for a year, 85-86 and this was the theme song to what, if I remember correctly, was a Peugeot commercial. Nothing can go wrong when you are 19 in Paris with this music. Nothing ever went wrong...excepting some hangovers.
Robert was the consumate professional entertainer and he was one of the Rock Legends who made the music of the eighties the best decade ever. He may be gone but he lives on via his music legacy to the world.Anyone who listens to his songs has to realise this guy was one of the greats. I for one will be playing Roberts rock video clips at my New Years party coming up and i know all my party guests will be loving the entertainment. Thanks for the memories Robert you were a class act man.
Hey guys could somebody explain me what is this song about? `cause well I`m not really good at english...so I don`t quite get the meaning or story behind this song could somebody please tell me?
@MOTAGORO I'd say it's about a couple, Johnny who can't quite find his place in life and make things work, and Mary who somehow understands and tried to put up with him, but perhaps doesn't always manage?
I love this song and this whole album so much. He was so very cool. I miss him being in my world everyday. thank goodness we have this at least. RIP Robert sweetie.
probably depends on what country you live in, but AFAIK it never went to #1 anywhere - it got stuck at #44 in UK. It did reasonably well in Germany, #7.
Your music never dies, i keep play it, through the streets in my car. I´m 30 !

But Johnny was always a part of me, and I guess everybody feels like Johnny once in a while

@MsMaryXD Ich komme aus Luxemburg und bin halb Amerikaner. Your English is very good, too!
Arkady63 2 years ago 2
@MsMaryXD From the mid '80s to the mid '90s.
It was one of a few advertising phenomena when the product fed off of the song which fed off of the product.
That is, the song really helped sell the cars...but when you saw the cars, you also thought of the song and it sold well, too.
Another example was whe"n "Grapevine" was used to sell Levi's 501's.
Not only did that sexy ad sell the jeans, but the song was actually re-released on the European charts!
But why do you ask?
Arkady63 2 years ago 2
This song was used for years (over a decade, actually ) in Europe as the ad jingle for Renault motors.
The ad campaign was enourmously popular.
Arkady63 2 years ago 3
