  • Your music never dies, i keep play it, through the streets in my car. I´m 30 !

  • ahhh, some real music, certainly! thx rip R.P.

  • great track, I am 29 and this is timeless.

  • Always loved this song. I remember I was a young man at 19 when this song came out. Then many years later when I was 30 I got involved with some young 19 year old and she in turn loved this song too after I introduced her to it. ...always think of you Ana...

  • in finland the cover was kirkas sister muska < mari and jari...

  • 5555*...

  • RIP, Robert. Loved your music. You'll always be beautiful to gaze upon and listen to. Has anyone else noticed his slight resemblance to a few different actors over the years, (Rob Lowe, James Cagney, Willem Dafoe & Russell Crowe)?

  • like the bright guitar

  • Wow I remeber this song!! it's amazing.

  • R.I.P. Robert Palmer. Your great music and unique style will live on through the years for eternity.

  • Like the "CLUES" album! Best this is song from album. (and the "I Dream Of Wires" feat. Gary Numan)

  • I don't know if there's any Placebo fans here but they have spoiled this world class tune trying to do make there's good and it has made it worser

  • @Dave33Grimsby Placebo are wonderful but the version they did, it is not that good yeah

  • My pops used to play this song back in the 80's. I remember back then, even tho I was a kid that this was a JAM.

  • Why do people act like such pricks on YouTube? People would never talk like this to one another if face to face but a soon as you have anonymity people turn into assholes. We all have opinions but if a person's differs from your the first response shouldn't be "fuck-off" and immediate name calling. Enjoy the music and relax, it all good. Peace people!!!

  • memories memories...

  • Aloha! Question: How long does it take for Mary to count the walls?

"These ARE the good old days."

  • tres jolie chanson

  • One of those few songs that I hear every few months and bring me to reflect upon what I did and how I grew mentally in those months.

But Johnny was always a part of me, and I guess everybody feels like Johnny once in a while

  • beautiful tune totaly hits the spot on ketamine

  • Yeah I prefer placebos cover...

  • @DustyKiss76 your taste must be in your a'rse.

  • @heehawluck1 Fuck you dick wipe.

  • @DustyKiss76 LOL....4 words and not one of them more than 4 letters. It is little wonder that you prefer the Placebo's version when you have an IQ in single figures. LOL

  • @heehawluck1 You wrote arse with an apostrophe... Why are you getting so adgitated about this? Defuse cretin, I prefer placebo's cover by far but that has no effect on you, now does it? I really didnt feel like gracing your fragile mind with more than 15 letters but shoot... here we are hu? Why dont you spend your time licking the soles of your shoes and see if you can make them shine, it would really be far less pointless than this.

  • @DustyKiss76 I didn't write arse with an apostrophe, I typed it with my finger. I'm not getting adgitated, not even agitated, LOL. Why the feck am I bandying words with a witless gobshite like you is beyond me. Don't get overly adgitated just because you don't have the wit to use a dictionary. LOL

  • @heehawluck1 Oh my gosh... You are some wierd old man you like this so much? I have no problem with it so shut and and enjoy the music.

  • @DustyKiss76 You really should learn to read over what you have written BEFORE you post it. It would stop you making such a damned fool of yourself. LOL '...so you should shut and and enjoy' ?? LOL

  • @heehawluck1 Get a life.

  • @DustyKiss76 Lame in the extreme Dusty. Pish-poor !!

  • @DustyKiss76 That's a shame.....

  • @possibly46 Yeah.. I know haha I know its more clasical but I just perfer how quick it is and that brians voice is higher, its just more my year I guess :) Its not that this ones bad

  • @DustyKiss76 Yep undertand; we are all of our moment but.. this is much more a 'musically sophisticated' version and capable of being heard in a more complex and multi-layered way. In the end its just a high quality pop song but it has great arrangement and.....all that jazz.....

  • @DustyKiss76 Yep understand; we are all of our moment but.. this is a much more 'musically sophisticated' version and capable of being heard in a more complex and multi-layered way that adds to my particular enjoyment.

In the end its just a high quality pop song but it has great arrangements and.....all that jazz.....

  • @DustyKiss76 Is there an echo in here?

  • @DustyKiss76 Mighty undemocratic of me not to understand that there are other musical perspectives. Enjoy friend.....

  • @possibly46 You too :)

  • bella, bonita, good, bon, linda, schoneit

  • I remain silent before such a masterpiece !!!!!

  • I reckon in 88 when I secretly loved this song and she makes my day, I was the only 8yr old cranking it. 22 years later, its on my ipod and still being heard

  • Placebo version is 1,000,000 x better

  • @trimmytrab Bollocks !!!!

  • @heehawluck1 Yes Placebo version is better, despite you using four exclamation marks!

  • @trimmytrab Sorry.......I didn't realise you were TONE DEAF !!!! Hope you get help...it's amazing what modern medicine can do. LOL

  • Me encanta :)

  • he needs all the world to confirm he ain't loneley, "what a phrase"

  • minchia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is an absolute classic that I never tire of hearing unlike the lady gaga / bieber nonsense being pumped out today.

  • @Glorious80s spot on

  • I was in Paris at The Sorbonne for a year, 85-86 and this was the theme song to what, if I remember correctly, was a Peugeot commercial. Nothing can go wrong when you are 19 in Paris with this music. Nothing ever went wrong...excepting some hangovers.

  • the best song to relax and smoke a cigarette. it feels so good ^.^

  • RIP

  • I feel nostalgic when i hear this song.

  • I miss the guy.

  • who remembers this from hawkins in birmingham?

  • Robert was the consumate professional entertainer and he was one of the Rock Legends who made the music of the eighties the best decade ever. He may be gone but he lives on via his music legacy to the world.Anyone who listens to his songs has to realise this guy was one of the greats. I for one will be playing Roberts rock video clips at my New Years party coming up and i know all my party guests will be loving the entertainment. Thanks for the memories Robert you were a class act man.

  • r.i.p brother

  • Beautiful

  • I can't believe that someone like Robert Palmer isn't walking this Earth today. Always had a decent hit & he was very underrated.

  • @ellifips

da muß ich Dir absolut rechtgeben

damals war die Musik einfach viel besser als heute.

bin auch grad am stöbern nach hits aus den 70er und 80er Jahren

  • Love this tune. My favorite of all his work that I've heard.

  • @cordellscott Me too.The hits most people heard were fun,but this is so much more.

  • A big fave. Most people think of Addicted to Love when they hear mention of Robert Palmer.there was so much more than that. He's missed.

  • @darkfey1963 So True

  • ....... al Manhattan disco ... alla marina

  • the best cover version is by placebo.

it's not like the original though.

  • Hey guys could somebody explain me what is this song about? `cause well I`m not really good at english...so I don`t quite get the meaning or story behind this song could somebody please tell me?

  • @MOTAGORO I'd say it's about a couple, Johnny who can't quite find his place in life and make things work, and Mary who somehow understands and tried to put up with him, but perhaps doesn't always manage?

Just my reading, I could be wrong ;)

  • favolosa questa canzone ..parte della colonna sonora della mia infanzia!!

  • What a great montage!! Thanks for the up.

  • I love this song and this whole album so much. He was so very cool. I miss him being in my world everyday. thank goodness we have this at least. RIP Robert sweetie.

  • OWL SRSYL BBQTIME

  • olol, wowler?

damn, some strange guy in any wow board must have posted this link for any strange reason.

Your English is very good, too!

  • @MsMaryXD From the mid '80s to the mid '90s.

It was one of a few advertising phenomena when the product fed off of the song which fed off of the product.

That is, the song really helped sell the cars...but when you saw the cars, you also thought of the song and it sold well, too.

Another example was whe"n "Grapevine" was used to sell Levi's 501's.

Not only did that sexy ad sell the jeans, but the song was actually re-released on the European charts!

    But why do you ask?

  • This song was used for years (over a decade, actually ) in Europe as the ad jingle for Renault motors.

The ad campaign was enourmously popular.

  • nice.. thanks :D

that's true,.. but in my opinion the version of placebo also is a good one..

    -

    anyway.. great song. <3

  • Such a nice time... A now it's all over :-(

  • dont worry... today is the good old time of tommorow :-)

  • @OminaOne Loving the perspective.

  • @OminaOne Does that mean people will be daying "good old justin beiber"?

  • Can't stop listening (:

  • Looking for this for a while. It's the music for the old 'Papa/Nicole' Renault Clio ads in the 90's! Didn't realise Robert Palmer sung it!

  • One of the great unknown songs of the '80s - thanks for posting this, I had the single way back when, absolutely played that to destruction.

  • unknown? Here in Germany it is often on the radio. I Always enjoy it.

  • It really is. It's one of these songs we can sing along but don't know title/musician. :)

  • @xenophonia It's not an unknown songs of the 80's. This was a huge hit in 1980 !!!

  • @brandoparis

probably depends on what country you live in, but AFAIK it never went to #1 anywhere - it got stuck at #44 in UK. It did reasonably well in Germany, #7.

  • @xenophonia - here in Italy it was #4, and a lot of people still remember it :)

  • @xenophonia Not unknown where I was. Mesmerizing. Hip.

  • Fantastic song. Nice melody.

  • Quite simply a fantastic song by a much underrated guy.Charming guy to speak to much missed.

  • one off his best songs. Thank you

  • great
