Whenever we see a Spitfire on takeoff it's just an individual plane in an airshow.
But a squadron takeoff must have been quite a spectacle, when the whole squadron started accelerating and their tails went up it was thunderous, with 12 Merlin engines on overboost simultaneously.

Prý hodně záběrů - tedy hlavně asi těch leteckých soubojů - bylo použito z filmu Battle of Britain. Fakt, že 109 se dochovalo rozhodně míň než Spitfirů a jiných spojeneckých mašin. Natož letuschopných :-) Jinak, všimli jste si, jak těsně po přistání asi na dvě vteřiny (v čase 4:56) projíždí na kole takový šedivý pán? Už od premiéry v kině mám zato, že je to Zdeněk Svěrák :-)
Pozrite si scénu 4:46. Božééé. :-( tie me 109 sú úplne celé nahovno. Veď nemci mali zameriavače na pravej strane, pretože verili, že pravé oko je strelecky silnejšie.
Holt to nejsou befka ale španělské buchony. Je také možné že je to film vyvolaný z druhé strany (chybka, možná naschvál). Když se koukneš na ostatní záběry z BoB tak maj zaměřovač pěkně vpravo. Taky tam máš třeba spity IX a V načmadlikaný jako Mk. I a navíc doprovázej svaz pevností. Pro laika je to super historickej film, a ten kdo tomu trošku rozumí a pozná tam tyto chybky se tomu zasměje a kochá se těmito vznešenými stroji :-)

Takovych seku tam je vic, hodne se o tom diskutovalo .. treba pocet listu na vrtuli spitfiru apod. Chapu, ze odbornika to drazdi, ale ten film je trochu o necem jinym. Naozaj krásny film. Mám ho moc rád. Ale jednu jedinú vec mu proste musím vytknúť. Skoro som sa rozplakal, keď som videl, že messerschmitti 109 mali motor Merlin! To nebolo moc autentické a vyzeralo to fakt blbo. :-( 109 cez II. svetovú hentaké veľké čumáky nemali. Proste to tam vôbec nepasuje. :-( Večná škoda.

Pearl Harbor is possibly the worst war film ever made, a far better account of the attack on Pearl Harbor can be found in "Tora! Tora! Tora!"
In PH, a Spitfire was seen to dive straight into the sea with full power and the pilot swam out unharmed. Bloody ridiculous. Hollywood never lets facts get in the way of a good story and the romantic mush that is Pearl Harbor isn't even a good story. PH is total and utter crap. DBW is excellent. End of!

(Celé se to většinou obchází tak, že dnešní Slovensko je jiná země než původní Československo.)

Personally, I prefer footage of real aircraft, CGI animators are great at making aeroplanes look like aeroplanes but they never fly correctly and it really spoils the effect. What's needed is enough budget to film REAL aircraft... And a relaxation of all of the f**king EU red tape that's keeping so many of them grounded these days.

@janak19771977, as far as I was aware, the personnel of the three fighter and three reconnaisance squadrons that fought for the 'Slovak Air Force' in support of the Axis forces were drawn from the pre-war Czech Air Force, whether all of those men were of Sudeten origins isn't something I can say definitively or otherwise. I suspect not as there were nazi sympathisers of all nationalities, some British, some Norwegian, some Danish - A lot French. Thanks for your civility. It's rare here!

Thankfully, the film makers were better than you would've been at making Deep Blue World and better than Hollywood would've been - They stuck to a believable account of history.

There were no MkIX Spitfires either but I'd sooner see the wrong mark of fighter in a film than CGI. Unfortunately, there aren't enough of the original aircraft left to make a film featuring the correct models hence we're stuck with CGI or aircraft with the wrong armament, canopies, props... etc. It's better than nothing and most people don't notice. More important is a correct depiction of the actual events, hence why Pearl Harbor is so terrible.

Nj Battle of Britain je cerstve povalecny film, to bylo jeste hodne letadel i pilotu z dob valky...to se neda srovnavat...a hlavne to bylo plne autentickych zaberu.... samozrejme, tmavomodrej svet , je takovej lacinej Pearl Harbour, v tom s tebou souhlasim :).
It's a great film, and a great reminder of the fact British and Czech people bravely fought near each other in two world wars. Today, we have many things in common again - for example our view of the EU. We shouldn't forget our friendship!
tj - This was a Barrandov movie, not hollywood. Barrandov Studios are in Prague. The USA were not involved in the Battle of Britain. I think this film has really good production quality, so I'd forgive them for a bit of creative license and 'English pig' here and there. I hear the cost of hiring each plane was $5,000 an hour.

Spitfires did have mirrors fitted in the field sometimes, not by default but still! Nose cannons were fitted on the Bf109 from the F onwards not on the Emil. It was tested to mount a 20mm MGFF between the cylinder blocks of the DB601A engine on early marks of the 109 but was found to lead to too many problems to be put onto production aircraft. There was no such problem with later DB601/605 engines though!

The Messerschmitts are Spanish built HA-1109 Buchons. BUT: You can see a cannon firing through the propeller hub (in the mirror of spit pilot)- only an original BF-109 F with DB Engine had. BF-109 F was invented after the battle of britain.
Bf-109 E-3 version has too cannon in propeler hub...with 4 machineguns 7.92 mm (2 in wings and 2 in nose). Another version, E-4 has 2 cannons in wings and 2 machineguns in nose. Both of this version were used in Battle of Britain.

Whenever we see a Spitfire on takeoff it's just an individual plane in an airshow.
But a squadron takeoff must have been quite a spectacle, when the whole squadron started accelerating and their tails went up it was thunderous, with 12 Merlin engines on overboost simultaneously.

Prý hodně záběrů - tedy hlavně asi těch leteckých soubojů - bylo použito z filmu Battle of Britain. Fakt, že 109 se dochovalo rozhodně míň než Spitfirů a jiných spojeneckých mašin. Natož letuschopných :-) Jinak, všimli jste si, jak těsně po přistání asi na dvě vteřiny (v čase 4:56) projíždí na kole takový šedivý pán? Už od premiéry v kině mám zato, že je to Zdeněk Svěrák :-)

Holt to nejsou befka ale španělské buchony. Je také možné že je to film vyvolaný z druhé strany (chybka, možná naschvál). Když se koukneš na ostatní záběry z BoB tak maj zaměřovač pěkně vpravo. Taky tam máš třeba spity IX a V načmadlikaný jako Mk. I a navíc doprovázej svaz pevností. Pro laika je to super historickej film, a ten kdo tomu trošku rozumí a pozná tam tyto chybky se tomu zasměje a kochá se těmito vznešenými stroji :-)

Takovych seku tam je vic, hodne se o tom diskutovalo .. treba pocet listu na vrtuli spitfiru apod. Chapu, ze odbornika to drazdi, ale ten film je trochu o necem jinym. To bych se jako ajtak nesmel divat skoro na zadny ze soucasnych filmu, kde se laboruje s vypocetni technikou :-)) O filmech a serialech z lekarskeho prostredi radsi ani nemluvim. Proti tomu je zamerovac na leve strane prkotina, nemyslis?

Naozaj krásny film. Mám ho moc rád. Ale jednu jedinú vec mu proste musím vytknúť. Skoro som sa rozplakal, keď som videl, že messerschmitti 109 mali motor Merlin! To nebolo moc autentické a vyzeralo to fakt blbo. :-( 109 cez II. svetovú hentaké veľké čumáky nemali. Proste to tam vôbec nepasuje. :-( Večná škoda.

Wonderful, sad film. Long way before hollywood muckied war films. This is a true story of war, friendship and bravery. My heart goes out to the boys who flew for the Royal Air Force in WW11.

Pearl Harbor is possibly the worst war film ever made, a far better account of the attack on Pearl Harbor can be found in "Tora! Tora! Tora!"
In PH, a Spitfire was seen to dive straight into the sea with full power and the pilot swam out unharmed. Bloody ridiculous. Hollywood never lets facts get in the way of a good story and the romantic mush that is Pearl Harbor isn't even a good story. PH is total and utter crap. DBW is excellent. End of!

Ke konci války, aby slovenská vláda ukázala svojí oddanost, vyhlásila válku Americe. Ta, mimochdem, trvá dodnes, protože se jedná o tak trapný incident, že ani jedna strana se k němu nechce nijak moc vyjadřovat, natož omlouvat, nebo dokonce vyhlásit mír. Takových lidí bylo na všech stranách dost. Země jsou pořád jenom o lidech a nikdy se nedá generalizovat na celou populaci. Slovensko mělo také nezanetbatelný odboj. Češi (a mnozí Slováci) však museli v zahraničí dokazovat svoji cenu zas a znova a proto vstoupili do širšího podvědomí.

Personally, I prefer footage of real aircraft, CGI animators are great at making aeroplanes look like aeroplanes but they never fly correctly and it really spoils the effect. What's needed is enough budget to film REAL aircraft... And a relaxation of all of the f**king EU red tape that's keeping so many of them grounded these days.

For those who didn't, I think "fucking english piss-wet grass" and silly military rules about the 'fucking english piss-wet grass' was preferable to getting captured by the Germans and murdered in a concentration camp, as such, they didn't get upset about the silly military rules and focussed on a fight that was worth having. @janak19771977, as far as I was aware, the personnel of the three fighter and three reconnaisance squadrons that fought for the 'Slovak Air Force' in support of the Axis forces were drawn from the pre-war Czech Air Force, whether all of those men were of Sudeten origins isn't something I can say definitively or otherwise. I suspect not as there were nazi sympathisers of all nationalities, some British, some Norwegian, some Danish - A lot French. Thanks for your civility. It's rare here!

with all due respect slavakia oficially becomed independent and german satelite before war so it is a bit of a grey area i guess.moust of the pilots who fought with the slawakian airforce during the war were not very pro nazi many went to the soviet side and during the slovak uprising the slovakian airforce went over to the rebels.....as far i know there vere about 60 brits in the ss compared to divisions of french dutch skandinavians atc

...Which would've been totally unrealistic. No matter what the Czech pilot may have thought, he would in 1940 have done the same as any military pilot today: Which is NOT tell his superior officer to fuck off, no matter what political motivations he might hold.
Thankfully, the film makers were better than you would've been at making Deep Blue World and better than Hollywood would've been - They stuck to a believable account of history.

There were no MkIX Spitfires either but I'd sooner see the wrong mark of fighter in a film than CGI. Unfortunately, there aren't enough of the original aircraft left to make a film featuring the correct models hence we're stuck with CGI or aircraft with the wrong armament, canopies, props... etc. It's better than nothing and most people don't notice. More important is a correct depiction of the actual events, hence why Pearl Harbor is so terrible.

tj - This was a Barrandov movie, not hollywood. Barrandov Studios are in Prague. The USA were not involved in the Battle of Britain. I think this film has really good production quality, so I'd forgive them for a bit of creative license and 'English pig' here and there. I hear the cost of hiring each plane was $5,000 an hour.

Spitfires did have mirrors fitted in the field sometimes, not by default but still! Nose cannons were fitted on the Bf109 from the F onwards not on the Emil. It was tested to mount a 20mm MGFF between the cylinder blocks of the DB601A engine on early marks of the 109 but was found to lead to too many problems to be put onto production aircraft. There was no such problem with later DB601/605 engines though!

The Messerschmitts are Spanish built HA-1109 Buchons. BUT: You can see a cannon firing through the propeller hub (in the mirror of spit pilot)- only an original BF-109 F with DB Engine had. BF-109 F was invented after the battle of britain.

Bf-109 E-3 version has too cannon in propeler hub...with 4 machineguns 7.92 mm (2 in wings and 2 in nose). Another version, E-4 has 2 cannons in wings and 2 machineguns in nose. Both of this version were used in Battle of Britain.

The last publication I subscribed to was THE ECONOMIST and that was a few years ago. Was it not DER SPIEGEL that published "The Diaries of Hitler" that were proven to be fake?
