  • My local AMC started to install Sony 4k projectors in August of 2009 in two screens. Those were capable of doing 3D projection. The AMC in Rockaway, NJ USA then replaced all their film projectors with Sony 4k projection 2D (excluding the DLP 2k IMAX theater) in October of last year. Digital projection has elminated the need for splicing film, showing the film as it was supposed to be seen.

  • holy fucking shit i would murder for one of these things.

  • @C815richard sony - make belive.

  • @bunkofurko Thats Sony for ya. All the other projector makers have much smaller projectors with more light. But not 4K yet.

A 4K TI DLP is a much better package then current Sony. One of the reasons why even tho Sony4K is around, TI is still doing bulk of sales.

  • @cinetechgeek The PJ shown in this clip is last year's model. The current SRX-R320 model is half the size of what you see in this video, and the PJT is mounted at a usuable height.

  • @bunkofurko going digital is just as much political as it is costly. In the US, VPF, virtual Print Fee , is to help cinemas by paying part of the cost. But its a difficult contract to navigate. In the US VPF is major issue so any cinema not on VPF have to have 35mm too. In other parts of the world, they are not so beholden to hollywood and VPF and are just moving forward as it makes sense. If no VPF is involved, you go digital only. Its complicated and there are videos in my cha about it.

  • @bunkofurko you are right to a degree, but with so much 3D coming out, you will be able to keep 2-3 cinemas busy simply running digital 3D. 3D is driving this now, not so much the VPF. So its going to happen because of that. Many of the DCI system we are putting in now are total replacements. 35mm pulled out. Once you decide you are going DCI for 2D and 3D and look past the VPF, no reason to keep them. If you have digital you use it and push the 35mm aside, not worth keeping duel kit serviced

  • @bunkofurko Sorry to say, the accountants and their money make the world go around. And from my stand point as some one who is deeply involved in all this.. The numbers are starting to stack up against Film. Once we have a certian number of screens digital, the studios will simply refust to supply film. BECAUSE THEY CAN and BECAUSE IT SAVES THEM MONEY. You stay in film at this stage and all you are is one of those cinemas that run OLD films. Not many of them around. Not very commecial.

  • @bunkofurko DCI has been very difficult and many companies involved have not made money. Well Proj makers more then most. Still IT took a bath on the TI tech as they geared up for it to become huge in rear projection (And it was a great tec) but flat was in.

  • @bunkofurko I don;t totally agree with many of DCI decisions either, but they have been made and we live with them. Digital is coming on strong now. Film is defiantly on its way out. We are installing DCI screens as fast as we can. And once there is a critical mass, the studios simply will not make film available. I would give some parts of the world 5 years MAX before film is no more. (For typical feat. rel.)

  • @bunkofurko yes, to a degree you are right, big projector makers make decent profit, still, a DCI projector compared to equivalent industrial units is not actually that badly priced. Its all relative really. But yes, Sony's tech is lacking. Would have been god to have a decent competitor in DCI projection..

  • I apologize to everyone for downing the digital and being a jerk about it.

  • @bunkofurko well cars came out before digital, but i will accept this technology because it is where we are going in the future. I just prefer the look of film with its detail and graininess along with the challenges, but that wont stop me from going to see a digital presentation.

  • 3D and High Definition is exciting. Sony's new 4K Projector will be on display at HD EXPO in Burbank, CA in November. If you want to get the scoop on 4k, 3D even mobilized content that would be the place to find out about it.

  • The real purpose of this projector is to eliminate jobs like film projectionists, film carriers and film developers etc. This digital is bad news

  • yes- Sony really hates projectionists...they spend millions developing this product to kill your 410/hr job

  • yeah well i got bad news for them, the new sony 4ks suck!!! They have a green tint to the image the projector is showing, they are overly sensitive and the sometimes when you ingest the movie the movie does not ingest at all due to a corruption. Fuck em. They do not care about my rent why should I care about theirs.

  • @yvesl27 If those jobs are not relevant anymore, why are you advocating keeping them?

  • @mmclees because i have that job thats why. i know other projectionist who are great people, but because of the digital roll out, they will be out of a job as well

and i cant work with great people like that again.

  • @yvesl27 Cry me a river. If it were up to you, we'd never build computers because it would put abacus makers out of business. And judging from your "acting" videos, I'm tempted to tell you to keep your day job, but in light of your feelings towards the digital projection industry, you may need to become familiar with some other line of work.

  • @mmclees you are right that i should not advocate this job anymore, but for you to insult me like this is just rude and downright low when defending technology which is obviously out of my control and is very irrelevant to my acting ability. i was just voicing my opinion and if you have a problem with that and with my acting videos then that is what you think. At least i am putting myself out there and it is very hard to do that because people like always have something to say about it.

  • Interesting. These are used at the AMC I work at.
