I've been to Alabama so many times and to be honest with you there are more black people in these communities that white people. I know though that there are some backwoods places because my roots are from northeastern Alabama Etowah County.

Looks like my initial comment didn't make it through, so I'm going to recap. I'm white, grew up in Philadelphia in a mixed community. 3rd or 4th grade was taught about American history. How white people used to own blacks.
It was so troubling for me to look around the room and look at my black friends and I thought how awful it was. I really couldn't grasp my head around it. I mean we were friends, we had no boundaries between us. I know how I felt wasn't nearly as bad as they must have felt but I actually felt ashamed. Like it was a lie. I grew up thinking exactly what our constitution states: That All Men (and Women) are Created EQUAL. It was unreal to think that people were racist. It made no sense.
I think segregated proms are entirerly stupid. I think that the racists out there need to think about the horrible impact upon todays society. They need to think about this the next time they say something about Black or White or Yellow or ,in my case, Pink. The lies that biggots and racists need to keep their mouth shut. It infuryiates me. And until they get that into their heads. The world will be the same as it is today.

Looks like my initial comment didn't make it through, so I'm going to recap. I'm white, grew up in Philadelphia in a mixed community. 3rd or 4th grade was taught about American history. How white people used to own blacks.

It was so troubling for me to look around the room and look at my black friends and I thought how awful it was. I really couldn't grasp my head around it. I mean we were friends, we had no boundaries between us. I know how I felt wasn't nearly as bad as they must have felt but I actually felt ashamed. Like it was a lie. I grew up thinking exactly what our constitution states: That All Men (and Women) are Created EQUAL. It was unreal to think that people were racist. It made no sense.

I think segregated proms are entirerly stupid. I think that the racists out there need to think about the horrible impact upon todays society. They need to think about this the next time they say something about Black or White or Yellow or ,in my case, Pink. The lies that biggots and racists need to keep their mouth shut. It infuryiates me. And until they get that into their heads. The world will be the same as it is today.

I as never told any steriotypes in my house. but I personally have faced them. I'm non-discript white, but I'm fairly short with a darker olive complexion, and dark hair. I've been labeled as everything, Asain, Indian, Native, mexican. and it's really disheartening to see how differently I'm looked at when they ask 'you mexican?'

When will people realize that good and bad exists in all cultures and races? I think these kids are a huge boon to this society! It's a terrible shame that we have to rely on our kids good sense and not develope our own, as we are supposed to teach the children, not the opposite! Also, Im glad that Morgan Freeman did this for these kids! Makes me like him all the more.

one stereotype that I was never told but use to hear all the time was that all black men are thefs, gang bangers, and base heads just to find out that 98% of black males work vary hard to provide for there familys and try to teach there kids that grow up in bad placeses that guns and drugs are bad

I grew up in a mostly middle class black neighborhood outside DC and was super surpised when I went to college in Ohio. I met many white people who had never spoken to a black person. I also met people who assumed that I was raised by a single parent and that I was poor. Crazy.

I've never really thought of black people as any different from white people. Ive always been around black people.
I've never heard absurdities quite like the tail thing, though I'd say that about a quarter to half of the people in my family are (at least) slightly racist.
As far as the Jewish stereotype goes, I was told that, but only as a joke, I don't think that the person who told me actually believes it...
I dislike pretty much every type of stereotyping, but this has a special place

I'm white and lived with my pappaw when I was young. We used to sit on the front porch in the summer and as the Sun would set he would say "the Sun's goin' down...the coons'll be comin' out" and some of the black kids would play on the street b/c it was cooler in the evening, but I didn't know better. Now I volunteer at an inner city outreach program that is directed by a wonderful black woman and I couldn't be happier.
