Being Gay, How does your family introduce u & your Partner

Interesting choice of music, somber.

"Gay" was indeed a strange choice of word for same sex couples but there it is. Some people will say "your friend" when talking about gay relationships b/c they have not adjusted to the term "girlfriend" in a same sex relationship, rather fucked up but some of us "heteros" cannot fathom it.

My mom used to introduce us as friends but 7 1/2yrs and 2 kids later, she just introduces us by name and she is 75.

Oh and for the record, I call her, "Honey".

Funny thing, that is what my Mom calls my Dad.

I refer to laura as me missis, its a bit sexist really but she thinks its funny and it gets a reaction from men at work they look at you strange its well funny,, My mum well cool now about things

hiya izzy hun, well not 100% sure what the right word is, but i think there is nothing wrong with your other half, " is your other half down this weekend" that is what would be asked of me, so don't see why it should be any diff for you hun.

As i am only half a person without katey, so think it is a good way to say it.

Yes! At work people refer to Chica as my "friend" all the time.

Does it frustrate you, they trying to be policically correct but people still feel ackward when refering to my lover lol, only cos of xmas i noticed more my mum well cool about it

Frankly, I blame the gay community for not coming up with a better word. Personally, I think "wife/husband" sounds too much like role play in gay relationships. "Partner" is too confusing for people on the "outside", and "Life partner" is too generic. "Boyfriend/Girlfriend" doesn't say enough, whereas "Lover" says more than most people want to hear. "Mate" only works in the United States.

I wouldn't like it if someone said 'where is your friend' when they should have said 'where is your husband' so yes i'd feel the way you do

cool, it seems to be people over 50 maybe its to do with the way people were brought up but its kinder frustrating lol,, Thanks for your comments
