That old lady just makes me sick. What a waste of life. She just needs to be shot and her money distributed to those that really need it and could contribute to society.
I have a Newfound disgust for gamblers.. carelessly gambling away your kids inheritance and saying "oh well".. blowing 300 grand like nothing.. people are homeless and struggling to feed they're children while doing without themselves and these selfish people are doing this. If hell is real, I hope these people will be permanent residents.
Whether you are gambling on fruit machines, horse-racing, blackjack or roulette, the odds will have been meticulously arranged to ensure a steady profit for the casino or bookmaker, a moderate frequency of 'near-misses' encourages prolonged gambling and the illusory control of 'choice' appears to encourage a belief that the game involves skill when in fact the outcome is entirely random, problem or pathological gambling is a recognised psychiatric diagnosis present in around 1% of the population
@robthesamplist You and YOUR 8 CLOWNS that liked your comment OBVIOUSLY never been to VEGAS...That's Illegal in SO MANY WAYS to DO THAT...WRONG..Try Again!!!
300 000 in the hole. i hope one day the mattress king don't end up on one living under a bridge. the casino won't rescue him and give him a free room.
of course he doesn't have a problem, does anyone who buys any kind of lottery ticket? the definition of a problem, or gambling problem MUST be that it has a kind of destabilizing effect on your life or security - this guy just has enough money that he is stable. if you think there is a problem here you really have a problem with the way capitalism lets individuals throw arround what can be the economy of cities or countries.
When he wins $5000 is pretty sickening really. I could buy a new camera, put the car on the road, maybe go on holiday and go for a really nice weekend away with the missus.
I bet 7 years ago Martha was living the highlife in some beautiful home with tons of money in the bank, now she's living in an apartment/villa with whatever is left in her bank account. In some sense I hope she isn't mega rich, because she's really wasted a lot of her good fortune.
The only reason that high roller comes to Vegas is so he can act like a big shot. He gets a high off of feeling like a big shot. "Ehh.. I lost 20 grand or so but it's okay cause I'm rich and can 'afford it'."
I wish these people would see exactly what they're doing to themselves...
They should see images and footage of starving families and injured and homeless people in war-torn countries, and realize exactly how lucky they are to even have money at all, and that old lady thinks gambling her son's inheritance away for fun is gonna be good for them in the long run?
We don't know if the family have money from her husband or family inheritance, but she made out that the son has money too, I don't agree at all for by her blowing her money away like that (morally it's wrong)...but the son might be more loaded than she is anyway. What's sad is she doesn't see that the Hilton isn't her friend, and has a son that loves her, but hasn't found a way yet to help her.
People and private business should be allowed to do what ever they want. If I own a business that allows gambling and you want to gamble that in my opinion is non of any ones business. Stay out of my business and I will stay out of yours. BTW I don't gamble. I just believe in freedom of choice, whether that be drugs, alcohol, not wearing seat belt or even gambling. Do what you want and be responsible to except the consequences of your actions. Don't turn to the government after.
@cwood4ever freedom of choice is all well and good but what if someone goes insane and kills someone because they cant afford there fix on drugs? or makes u drink so much that someone else has to look after u? or when u waste police time to get u home? or u dont wear a seatbelt and the state has to pay to scrape u off the curb?
@kachekieran All this already happens, YOU CANT TELL PEOPLE WHAT TO DO. We tried to control Alcoholics and crime by making alcoholic drinks illegal yet if you know any thing about history it made it worse with prohibition. Organized crime sky rocketed. You said "if you don't wear a seatbelt and the state has to pay to scrape u off the curb?" Your right so lets make motorcycles illegal too after all they die and we cant have that. Let make fat food illegal it makes people FAT
@cwood4ever im not talking about going to extremes at all im just saying there has to be limits to personal freedom if we want to have a democracy at all. At the end of it all the laws are there to protect the person its enforced upon and others around them (in these cases anyway).
@kachekieran I laugh because we aren't a democracy we are a republic and yes there is a BIG difference. Limited government is the best. If I want to shoot up on crack and kill my self I should be allowed to do it as long as I don't force minors or anyone else. What you don't realize for example the "seat belt law" so many states have started isnt to help protect people its to create more revenue in the state period. If the government would stay out of our lives people would live a happier life.
If i was the son i would buy a slot machine home and tell her that the casino sent their regards. 4million over 7years... what an idiot! Damn i would buy 40machines for 100k and make the home into a casino. Worth it in the long run. PS the mom is really selfish for not giving a shit about leaving money behind for her children.
What most don't understand is that when you have several times the amount of money you need to live for a life time you don't need to bother what, how, where or when you spend it. The normal constraints don't apply. Plus he probably boxes clever and uses it as a tax dodge. Once you have the largest ship, the biggest house, the best clothes and the fastest most expensive cars, islands, diamonds ect, what else do you do?
@beckyholt You donate it, not to one of the scam "charities" but to individual people who are good people and will make something of their lives, and who need it. Being more rich than you need to be is only evil if you then use your excess in a way like this. Disgusting. It didn't even occur to you to answer your own question in your comment with "Help others in need" ?
I agree gambling is unhealthy and a waste of money, but you people don't understand, this guy is probobly a millionaire. This is just play money to him.
You can spend 100 and get a seat at cirque du solei. Another 14 for a tall glass of beer. So much more entertaining in my opinion than those obnoxious casinos.
@Roshe1888 You can write off your losses against your wins as an itemized deduction on Schedule A. Of course, you need to have enough OTHER deductions to make this possible. You do better to play table games, but anytimre that you cash in more than $10K, there is paperwork that needs to be done on that. There isn't tax withheld, but the IRS does know that you cashed in that amount of chips.
These people eventually end up losing everything. They experience the thrill of being a bigshot for a short period of time, then go home to try to explain to their creditors about how tight things are for them. I have been a landlord almost all my life, and I can tell you that gamblers who gamble to win, don't go into casinos.
@Saaatana The issue is you saying the USA is a crazy nation... insert ANY nation in there and you won't find a single one that doesn't qualify as crazy-it's PEOPLE that are crazy. All the movies? Most US movies show us as sentimental, wildly romantic, sexy, confident;then art/indie stuff ie Trainspotting(UK)/Memento/Fight Club shows neuroticism here, everywhere. This series is the fringe--95% of people anywhere won't fit ANY of his series' wackos except his "born again Christians" in the midwestern US.
@Saaatana PS To be fair,as it literally took them hosting me to believe we're mostly loving, generous,& social,my s/o's family in Pori&Espoo were terrified of letting their son come here, afraid all of the USA was like Compton dramatized(the really poor minority neighborhood in LA where Hollywood shoots "thug" scenes). If it was like real life, it wouldn't be "drama."Please be considerate before judging a nation larger&more diverse w/more languagesðnicities than ALL OF EUROPE COMBINED.Kiitos.
@Saaatana I hope that's sarcasm.Doesn't seem to be,so take programs about 1000s of skinheads in Scandinavia;when I lived in Finland,a group decided to burn down 2 ethnic restaurants in Helsinki (w/customers inside!!)proclaiming that the immigrants weren't welcome.Since those skinheads I literally was half a block from (roads got blocked off) match the ones on film, damn, I guess all Finns are violent Nazis?Movies are specifically about the EXTREME.Normal healthy ppl don't attract media attention.
Her son should buy her a few of those gambling machines, then she can play forever and try to win back her own money. And when she dies her son would be that much richer.
This guy is awfully judgmental. I understand gambling is very dangerous but he doesn't have to talk down to every person he comes across. Chance takers also have some good characteristics. Maybe that's how that guy made it to the top of his business field.
@JeeRaph Judgmental? He is simply asking questions. He is a journalist after all, it's his job to ask questions, especially the tough ones! What the hell do you think makes these documentaries so fucking epic? He is a true journalist, just and asks the right questions that need answers. It's so fun when he interviews ignorant people, laughing the questions away or avoiding it haha, and he doesn't let them off the hook, it always ends in silence! xD
These are tough questions, and some are very personal, I understand how you could get that view of him. imo he is quite polite, in the sense that it is very hard being that polite when asking such questions, at least he manage to stay on friendly terms! These few people that gets all defensive seems to be quite ignorant also, I'm sure any breaching questions to their bubble would make them feel really uneasy, but they certainly don't take any harm from it! ;)
"It's just a sport..." He says feeding another note into the machine which he termed a vacuum cleaner, playing at a 'sport' which he agreed had no skill involved whatsoever...
That fucker from the roller, Alan, what a LOSER, I dont think he is having fun or being entertained, I think he is extremely lonely, and pathetic existence, he is not laughing, or drinking, having fun with other people, he only talks to Louis and that's all.
What a fuckin miserable human and what a fuckin miserable way to spend money, I hope you end living under a bridge. LOSER! GAME OVER! IDIOT!
I think that martha woman is quite a good advertisement for euthenasia, espcially when one see's her poor son, who is quite obviously biting his tongue, as Louis was able to pick up on. Bloody selfish baby boomer types. They just don't care about anything except themselves. Notice how that 'customer service' bloke wth the 'mattress king' subtly changed his position. Earlier he was saying he would try and stop his "friend" if he was gambling too much...now he says its not his business...hmmm
This is the second time I've seen this documentary, and it still completely disgusts me to see a guy just shove $100 bills into a machine as if it was nothing, repeatedly, and not realy mean a thing to him that he got fuck all back from it.
Fair enough, its his money that he earnt that hes spending, but it boggles my mind that he does it in such a flippant way.
Anyone with some sense can see that Gambling is for suckers. There are no consistent winners, except the casino itself. The players don't stand a chance.
$250,000.00 American dollars, what a fucking moron. That's truely the only way to describe him, apparently he is "having fun", being "entertained." I'm only a young guy and i can go to the casino for a night out with 50 Australian dollars and have good fun, win or loss i call that fun, i'm with my mates and it's a laugh.
Just because you can spend, or should i say lose, $250,000 dollars doesn't mean it's a wise move, imagine how much fun you could have with $250,000 over what, 3 nights?
2:00 lol when that child's music came on i couldn't stop laughing. louis had just asked him if he thought he had a problem too, when he was starting to sound like a jibbering idiot. i bet the mattress business was started by his father.
How does Allan's wife even stand him? No matter how rich we were, if my wife went and gambles away a quarter of a million, I wouldn't be there when she got home! So selfish.
I would tell my mom to go on a luxury travel for 7 years and spend 4 million dollars in a real fun way. This is ridiculous. Who lets their mother do something stupid like this! It's a families job to protect family members from money grabbing crooks like casinos.
Think what good they could have done with that money for the world and for theirselves. I just cant understand how someone could enjoy pushing a button on a machine and losing money.
see... this mother fucker who call himself a friend of that rich motherfucker isnt a friend at all, he's just riding that money train!, now if that guy went bankrupt, i bet you couldnt find his ass!
Noooo they don't have a gambling problem, they just don't quit because they're so happy when they lose money! At least the couraged people admit their problems...
I wouldn't be worried about my mum gambling away my inheritance. The important thing to me would we whether she was gambling within her means, and I get the impression that this 'Martha' is not.
This is the most depressing episode of Louis Theroux's show I've seen These people are so possessed. I understand the thrill of the ups and downs, and I understand the right to spend your own hard earned money how you choose. It's the giant quantities they are spending that scare me. Watching the "High Roller" spend what I make in a year in just a few seconds seems so arrogant. If you can't even speak the amount you lost then you might have an addiction.
that part around 1:30 where he just keeps feeding the machine bills is sooo painful x.x i could never just throw away money like that, no matter how rich i ever became
Totally agree that inheritance is silly and parents ought to enjoy their money while they're alive rather than leave it to their spoiled children. But it's just a shame that that woman's whole life is the casino and she's surrounded by grinning vultures who call themselves "friends".

How many lives could $300,000 save?
A mosquito net cost about $5.
About 700,000 children die each year of mosquito born disease.
So by my inexpert reckoning, what he wasted in a weekend could have saved the lives of about 60,000 kids.

What a terrible job to be one of these casino hosts. They seems like pimps who rape their guests while all the time smiling. A sad, sad job.

Her son should buy her a few of those gambling machines, then she can play forever and try to win back her own money. And when she dies her son would be that much richer.
fuunguus 11 months ago 3
This guy is awfully judgmental. I understand gambling is very dangerous but he doesn't have to talk down to every person he comes across. Chance takers also have some good characteristics. Maybe that's how that guy made it to the top of his business field.
JeeRaph 11 months ago
@JeeRaph Judgmental? He is simply asking questions. He is a journalist after all, it's his job to ask questions, especially the tough ones! What the hell do you think makes these documentaries so fucking epic? He is a true journalist, just and asks the right questions that need answers. It's so fun when he interviews ignorant people, laughing the questions away or avoiding it haha, and he doesn't let them off the hook, it always ends in silence! xD
fuunguus 11 months ago
@fuunguus He talks like he's better then these people, though.
JeeRaph 11 months ago
@JeeRaph
These are tough questions, and some are very personal, I understand how you could get that view of him. imo he is quite polite, in the sense that it is very hard being that polite when asking such questions, at least he manage to stay on friendly terms! These few people that gets all defensive seems to be quite ignorant also, I'm sure any breaching questions to their bubble would make them feel really uneasy, but they certainly don't take any harm from it! ;)

I love how smart the casino is giving mattress king that awesome apartment, for a couple of nights, and get $USD 300,000 in exchange for it!
I have a feeling he's worth tens of millions though, considering the private jet and all.
You could seriously have the best month long holiday ever for that much.

@BelatedCommiseration said: "Notice how that 'customer service' bloke wth the 'mattress king' subtly changed his position."
Yeah picked up on that as well. Ultimately he has his own concerns (ie: his own job and income) at the highest priority.
I like mattress king though, how jovial he is.
The two guys who came to gamble together just make me depressed though...

This is the most depressing episode of Louis Theroux's show I've seen These people are so possessed. I understand the thrill of the ups and downs, and I understand the right to spend your own hard earned money how you choose. It's the giant quantities they are spending that scare me. Watching the "High Roller" spend what I make in a year in just a few seconds seems so arrogant. If you can't even speak the amount you lost then you might have an addiction.

Totally agree that inheritance is silly and parents ought to enjoy their money while they're alive rather than leave it to their spoiled children. But it's just a shame that that woman's whole life is the casino and she's surrounded by grinning vultures who call themselves "friends".
