It's just somethin about Billie Holiday's voice that makes me adore it... I must admit Diana Ross's vocal performances in "Lady Sings The Blues" really made me love the legacy of Billie Holiday. May She Rest In Peace.
I'm happy that a new audience is being introduced to this music - but I'm nervous now that this song is going to be forever attached to a game rather than recognized for its own artistic qualities.
It was after a traumatic event in Bioshock. And you 'for just a short time' end up in a place where you actually feel safe. That is why everybody (including me) have an attachment to the song. It plays during that special spec of time you have when you out of danger. The game takes place in 1960 so there was a lot of old songs playing.
It doesn't really matter where you hear it from, the fact alone that people are coming here to listen to the music is enough to show that it's artistic qualities are what is being recognized and it's what people are really taking interest in. If the game was dominating the spotlight here then that means people would probably consider this to be just another song in the vast ocean (figuratively speaking) of forgettable music that goes in one ear and out the other.

I love this song. Better than the newer recording, in my opinion.

I know. I've been looking for this version's MP3 for so long. All I can find is the awful, new version.
