  • Can u give the recipe in terms of pounds an ounces as a dnt kno wot half a cup is lol

  • In my case I find shortening flavorless and disgusting, I don't want it anywhere near my cakes, Id rather have a not so pristine frosting with a kickass flavor

  • @Kokirifae I totally agree that using shortening sacrifices some taste, I mean buttercream make with all butter is so much better, but I have had no luck getting roses to not melt when they are made from true butter cream. Also it gets melty in the bag as I am piping...I'm open to suggestions on how to keep that from happening!

  • I love pastry, but i also love savory, cannot decide which i like best, i attend Penta County Vocational school and we did roses today, my first one was fairly nice, then i did two different colors at once, plays for a beautiful colors

  • łał...super

  • Beautiful!!! Thanks for sharing! Your video is better than others that I see. Because they did it too fast and hard for me to catch up.

  • Here take my recipe it works great!

    1/2 cup solid vegetable shortening

    1/2 cup butter or margarine

    1 teaspoon vanilla

    4 cups sifted confectioner's sugar

    2 Tablespoons milk

BTW shortening adds flavor and the white colour and texture in the icing without the shortening it will taste very bad and you will not have the white colour you want

  • Hi I have never used shortening, will it change the taste of the butter icing. Is the shortening what makes it so white?

  • won't it taste funny if you use just shortening?

  • you can add a little powered sugar at a time, and the more you add, the stiffer it gets

  • how do i make my buttercream more stiffer? i tried making roses and it all "melted"

  • i think you put more icing sugar

  • ok tnx bby

  • if the recipe you use calls for butter, take it out and replace it with all shortening. Some recipes call for 1/2 butter and 1/2 shortening mix.... just use all shortening. It has a higher melting point meaning it wont melt as easy and plus it more stable.

  • tnx bby, buh i dnt fink u cn get shortening here in london

  • You can - shortening is hydrogenated vegetable oil - all the supermarkets sell it - the only brand name I can think of off the top of my head is Trex but most supermarkets make an own brand version - it does make working the buttercream easier, but I don't think it tastes as nice so I usually do half and half and keep my buttercream cold!

  • yes ur right trex is the one to use

  • @libbyft that is what i did with my cakes, they keep the taste and look great! the shortening isnt overpowering either

  • ew, she's definitely doing it slowly so that the rest of us who don't know how can learn. geez.

  • put some color to the rose =o

  • i love ur videoz!!! =D

  • Have you ever tried this with a cooked french butter cream? Is it as easy or is it just too soft?

  • well i think the nitmal one is better bujt french is also good

  • wow thats amazing, im going to take cake decorating classes and im a little worried about learning the rose, any tips?

  • hi, its amazing how you did that..looks so easy but I've tried it and I just cant make a good bud.. anyway, what is your ingredients for the buttercream??? any secrets? thanks!

  • how do u make your buttercream cos u said that you used water than egg whites?

  • This is a lovely video. I've been trying my hand at making the roses as well, however it seems my buttercream recipe is not thick or stiff enough to be able to do the roses. Any idea on if I can add cream of tartar to my buttercream?

  • great job. my teacher has been teaching me a different method and i'll have to convert to the way you're doing it. thanks for posting.

  • 1:03-1:08 " When are we gonna start working with fondant?" " When you conquer buttercream." LOL

  • oh my goodness! that is soooo beautiful! i am in 7th grade and i am trying to become a cake decorator, i have been tracking down alot of videos on roses, and this is like the prettiest one yet!

  • Good luck. Im currently a Culinary Arts student that's taking a baking class, and I'll tell ya, its hard work to do cakes.
