I had a budgie for nine years, and she talked a lot, too, but I made the mistake of talking to her in a "baby-talk" voice, so she never spoke as clearly as this. And she learned really fast, too! I got her as a baby, the store told me it was a girl, she learned to say her name, "Molly", and "Pretty girl!" and then we found out she was actually a he! Unfortunately, my little sister let her out of the cage without supervision last year and my brother's cat got her. But budgies definitely talk!

@dinodirl It took my Keet about 6 months to pick up his first phrase. After that he learned new phrases really quickly. I have never owned a parrot, so I can't compare my keet to a parrot, but parakeets do learn pretty easily once they start! Thanks for watching!

@bellabelieber95 Parakeets are ranked as one of the top 3 talkers, right behind African Greys & Quakers.. A parakeet with a vocabulary of over 1,700 words holds the Guiness World record for talking. I have bred parakeets for 20 yrs. & find that most (males) talk (whether the owner knows it or not). I have babysat for many birds that I have sold & find that they are talking! The owner(s) just never took the time to listen to their 'tiny' voices.Easy to teach them tricks, too..

also after it learns that you are the source of the phrase, if you stand out of eye sight of the bird and say it, he will be more inclined to repeat it as a reply back to your "call". That's how I taught my cockatiels to talk. He's doing great for a Budgie

My great grandmother had one and she had to tell him all the time to talk human, cause sometimes he would talk bird and switch from the birds outside and human lol. They are too cute, I almost freaked when he said I love you.

As for talking budgies, the source is the Guiness World Records book. A budgerigar holds the world record for the largest vocabulary of any bird, at 1,728.

I have two cockatiels, a conure, and a parakeet. Best talker: parakeet. World's record for vocabulary? African grey? NO!! Male parakeet with a vocabulary of 1500 words. Parakeets may be small, but they pack a whallop when it comes to talking, entertaining, and doing tricks.

@mafatu32 i never said first bird or anything but holy sht wrong title budgies cant talk they chirp and say very seperated high voice words but only like 10 at most but they are not the smartest talking bird in the world get a conure or a cockateil who can actually talk then when you can actualy handle birds and u gota lot of money u can get alot of birds like me i have a maluccan cockatoo a citron cockatoo a congo african grey a blue and gold macaw and a scarlet macaw those are real fkin birds!

@TheBabySunConure True the parakeets have no idea what they are saying, but it's just nice to know they listen to you enough to want to say it themselves. I do have a future plan of getting an umbrella cockatoo, I've always liked them, at the moment I'm just learning.

@mafatu32 i no wat ur saying and good choice in an umbrella cockatoo but if ur just starting and u just got a budgie try to make a slow transition and get a conure after that get a medium/large parrot like a yello headed amazon, after those birds then u can get a cockatoo cuz those birds arnt just expensive but they need experienced training i just got a major mitchelles cockatoo for like 300$ because it was in shty condition and i new wat to do so i fixed it up and it is now a very trained bird

@skyressmaster12 if you were watching the conversation i had with him i said the wrong thing i no they can talk and that was my 1st bird but they talk in very high voices that is at times inaudible but i learned that they are only smart at tricks i dont like them because they died at a very young age and i had a bad experience with them i learned that that is a good bird for beginers but i have since then gotten my best bird, a cockatoo i dont hate all birds i just perfer some over others
