Calm down people, you're not being forced to change nor are you being persuaded to change. This is an informational video IF there is such a person who would change it to windows style.
@ModzTechSupport Each OS has their pros and cons. Specify your needs and then use what best fils your needs. The good things about Linux is, it's free (most distros are), and you can test it out without installing.
i've tried zorin os recently, it uses already the gnomenu that was shown here in this video that transforms the start menu into windows 7. however, the theme is always in light gray color no matter how i customize the appearance.
I have a trouble, after tell me "the repositorie has been change" when i put reload start download something but is interrupted and show me this mensage:
Failed to fetch cdrom://Ubuntu 11.04 _Natty Narwhal_ - Release i386 (20110427.1)/dists/natty/main/binary-i386/Packages Please use apt-cdrom to make this CD-ROM recognized by APT. apt-get update cannot be used to add new CD-ROMs
and dont install the gnomenu. so how i can fix that ?..
@DrOhm666 Sorry bud. Ubuntu is more stable than Mac OSX, and easier to customize. Windows 7 is just as stable as Mac OSX, and works with everything. Mac OSX just sits there, looks pretty, costs too much, and only works with whatever your iGod Steve Jobs decrees it should work with.
@313hummer this is very true but it wouldnt be hard to change it to xp or really whatever you want it to look like. you can customize it to fit the users desires. wich brings me to why im here. i searched this becouse i had forgotten how to do it and my parents want windows becouse thats what they know how to run and are to stubborn to learn another os and i told them ubuntu is free and then they dont have to pay into the microsoft monopoly.
@313hummer never heard of it lol so many linux distros. but it looks kinda like linux xp but that cost money tho lol wasnt much but still hahaha XD good call tho ima download it and try it. looks like what im lookin for my parents.
this is great for me :) i love the gui and compatability of windows but hate all the stability and virus problems. The latest WINE releases are pretty much flawless i was even able to install and run world of warcraft without a single glitch or having to use the terminal for anything. now i can have the best of both worlds :)
people who look at computer like it is some kind of xbox are not many ok. computers are whole lot more. try linux than you would know why people use it. it feels like pride when you use linux. it is so cool that all my frns ask me where in the name of god did i get such a science fiction look operating system. ubuntu is get set go. you not need cd you not need even usb no need office (pre installed). people who use it once never look back.
@cdguy47 Ah, but unlike Torrents, you cannot get arrested if you're caught!
To be fair, the amount that I've torrented (what, I shall never say, for legal reasons) would land me several thousands of dollars in fines, and most likely a good chunk of prison time, were I ever to be caught.
Still, Wine is easy to install. Give it a try. Much like sex, you'll be addicted.
*looks at last statement*
I just compared a computer program to sex, didn't I? Yep. Okay, I need to evaluate my life now.
Windows 7 is not crap, Vista is crap. I use linux mint and windows 7 on a single laptop. If only every program on windows works Linux then I wouldn't install windows 7 on laptop my anyway.
@Saie can you say "make it easier for Windows users to transition to Linux?" which is exactly why I am researching this so 300+ users are not stuck wondering what to do, where to go. I'd rather not baby sit each person during the transition as well as not taking years to do the transition.
@lhammonds thats a very good point.. this video should be used by people setting linux up for other people.. I viewed it from the wrong perspective... as a proper linux user wanting their linux to look like windows. Lol
@imsamdenby u probably just need to fix something. i had the same problem running world of warcraft thru wine of coarse on ubuntu but i did alil research and fixed the sound even tho i dont listen to the sound very much since i like to jam to music.
@imsamdenby LOL, seriously, how stupid can one person be? People choose the operating system based on what they want. I don't like Windows 7, I like Windows Vista. It looks better to me, but I like Ubuntu and Kubuntu more. Ubuntu doesn't delete itself, you either got a virus, which is very very hard to get with Linux, or you are lying. Also Ubuntu isn't designed to be gaming platforms, they're designed to be used as free, and open source. Try unmuting your audio, Ubuntu mutes it by default.
Win 7 a good system? Yea right. It doesn't suport all of the hard ware and I am not talking about old systems. There are now sold new systems that arn't suported by Windows 7. They say that it is supported. Vista and 7 are full of bugs.
It is a good thing for Linux that Vista and 7 are full of bugs. Many of my frends stop with Windows and get Linux. Linux is faster, stable, cheaper and no virus problems.
As it runs good on your pc, than you have the right hardware for 7. Moost pc's doesn't.
@XCutXProductions I couldn't really not really confirm that I don't not do that to those comments. And couldn't not quite confirm I did not thumb your comment up or down.
Can Windows 7 Guys make it look like Ubuntu (Gnome or KDE). Oh yeah they can't because if they do, Bil Gates will file a case against them in court :D
That's disgusting... why do people insist on taking a good operating system and dressing it up like a bad operating system. Makes no sense to me!! That's like taking my Chevy truck and putting Ford stickers all over it. What an insult that would be to my Chevy. Maybe they're just closet Linux users... "No no... I use Windows 7 really... @LinuxUserForever Some people just are new to linux and like a familiar environment, I know I use this because I just like how windows 7 looks. I doubt anyone who uses linux really tries to hide it, most people hardly know what an OS is so to them its just all the same. Keep an open mind man, not everyone likes the same thing, it's a personal opinion.
@LiveOliveJuice I think Ubuntu starts out ugly. But that's not bad. It's more incentive to personalize it. With just a background change, it can be beautiful.
Most computer users are so stupid, if you installed Ubuntu on their computer and did this, they wouldn't know the difference. If they did, they would think they caught a virus and instantly run to get help. Just goes to say, most computer users shouldn't have a computer.
@thespawn076 Because Your Company doesnt want to run Linux, but you know that it is better, AND you can confirm with the Windows-Network at your Company.
@Radu287 Yes it is compared to MAC OSX and Linux as it is very unstable and most likely to crash alot. Linux is probs the best as it is soo stable and unlikely to crash :D
@Sil3ntSnipaz Yes I am with you on that one and I agree Mac OS X and some linux distros are better than window, but still... still windows 7 is a great os. I am not a microsoft fanboy or anything, but i have to say that i use win7 home premium since june 2010 and i didn't have any bsod, os crash or anything.
@Radu287 They all are good operating systems and your choice of which depends on your level of expertise with computer systems and the purpose that you use the system.
@Sil3ntSnipaz I'm sorry, but to say all Operating systems are good is like saying all Mexican restaurants make their burritos the same way. It all looks the same for the most part, but there are small differences that make one better than another, or make someone favor. If they were all good, OS wars wouldn't really happen.
@rifall If in your opinion other operating systems are bad then ask yourself why people buy them? Just because other Operating Systems don't suit your use doesn't mean that you can say that they are bad. If everyone thought that Linux was superior then the entire computer systems community would run it but they don't.
@Sil3ntSnipaz I'm not saying all OS's are bad, even though, many are. The sad truth is, only a few operating systems are beyond satisfactory. Windows does meet my needs in many ways. However, Ubuntu and Mac OSX meet my needs better and have given me far fewer problems.
To continue with the analogy, two burritos may fill me up the same, but one could be filled with fish, which I'm alergic to. Even if it's cheaper and bigger, I wouldn't buy it because it doesn't suit my needs properly.
@Merlinofdeathmatel I tested Windows 7 and I returned back to Linux thanks to Windows 7. I used XP for many years and I loved it. Vista and 7 are full o0f bugs. there are more people that have problems with it than there are people that have no problems with it. I am fixing more pc's than I have to do with XP. Moost of the users want there XP back. I install it back for them on a new system that was built for Windows 7. With XP the bugs are gone. Some want linux because they hate now Windows.
@thespawn076 that's why Windows is everywhere. surely because it's crap. Linux is crap, you should say. For example, tell me in 15 seconds how to install Flash Player on Linux. IMPOSSIBLE. On windows? get to adobe website + install and that's it. SAME for firefox, in windows, download + install. Compared to fkin linux, where the computer must be managed by command prompts.
@xboxnissan go to Adobe Website, download the Version you need for your Distribution and install. Not more complex as Windows. Firefox? Go to your package installer, search for Firefox and press install. But if you want, you can install ist per Commands, too. Not complex. packages are just a little bit different, but doubleclick shouldn't be a problem. And if you need once commands, what is the problem? Type 5 words and your pc gives you an answer.
@MetalheadBuser TOTALLY WRONG. Go see by yourself: Download yourself fedora, you'll see it's so fking complex. And yes, being a windows user, I hate to install everything from command prompts. It's annoying to see plain text in 2011, why the fk couldn't linux does upgrades to do more graphic stuff? We are in 2011, and linux can't have a decent way to install stuff? The ONLY (who cares but still) thing I like that Linux has is Compiz Fusion (it's useless, I know.).
@xboxnissan there are so many Linux Distributions out there, why dont you take a simple one like Ubuntu or Mint? Those two are so fking easy. Two Month ago I had no experience with Linux, but it works so damnd much better than windows. And if you like to install sth. in Fedora, this System uses RPM Packages. Download, doubleclick and install, that easy. BTW: there's enough graphic stuff. I use Ubuntu at the Moment and Command Pronts are very rare. You'll need them most times if u need Rootrights
@pd3331 get => buy a program to run games? Yes sure... I'm a cracker and I should be able to get it (Still not convinced). Still how can you explain that my windows 7 boots faster than my linux? I tried once to run my windows (that has Adobe CS5 Master Collection + Visual Studio Ultimate + tons of progs) boots faster than my linux that has nothing (because there is no program to install...) ?
@pd3331 I feel sorry for your 1 gb of ram lol... anyways. You can't change someone isn't it? Linux will still remain behind Mac and Windows (i'm not a win7 fanboy.), because of lack of drivers and capabilities. I don't say linux sucks, I say that it can't do all things that Mac and Windows can do.
@pd3331 Think about it: No one will invest in free stuff. It's all about money. Still, you get better service when you pay. That's the point of Mac and Windows: simplify everyday manners. If really everybody in the planet wouldn't care about having graphic things, maybe Linux would be in front. Still, it's impossible that Linux becomes better than Windows and Mac.
@xboxnissan My windows computer is great for videos and games but I use my Ubuntu all the time its worth the money. I also think your right about the money, thats what windows and mac are in the computer market for. Who Knows some one day Linux will be the best
@pd3331 I don't think so man. It's really about what you do. Is true force of Linux is the command line. But since you can easily make yours on windows using .bat type of files, I don't see why I would use linux. I prefer the interface of Windows and Mac over Linux. Mac came up in last years, I've changed my mind about mac (I was a hater, not now, I find Mac very great). Windows still remain my choice until I have the money to spend overpriced product (Macs), still they are quality products.
@xboxnissan 1GB of RAM is all I need to run Ubuntu and all the effects. Programs do not feel slow at all (and honestly, that was a huge problem for me on Vista).
I think Ubuntu can run on 256MB RAM if needed (though Compiz will probably need at least 512mb).
@MsPwain haha, when Compiz is the only feature I like from Linux and needs 512 mb, guess what... win7 requires 512 mb unlike Vista.... Secondly you can't play games, do Adobe stuff (Photoshop, After Effects,....) and doesn't have iTunes. I can keep on listing what I need in my daily basis: Guitar Pro 6 (Win+Mac), Guitar Rig 4 (Win+Mac), Brink (Win+360+PS3). The only explanation my teacher (of Linux) told me why Linux is better: because it was before windows. It's not a valid argument.
@xboxnissan haha the linux-before-windows-thing is really no argument xD
(but the adobe and guitar-stuff is no argument, too: there is a tool, called wine, that lets you run windows-applications within linux. Anyway, playing windows-games with linux is always a bit nasty :D )
The thing that really stands out in linux is the command-line! It may sound funny, because the most people don't use it, but it's really comfortable.
But.. I think that M$ did a great job with Win7! ;-)
@xboxnissan Compiz itself only takes up around 5 - 25mb. But I would say, the total amount of memory should not be under 512Mb. But it really depends on your graphic card, and also it depends on what plugins you need. The main compiz settings are enabled in almost every Ubuntu install. And I think Ubuntu min. specs are 512Mb.
I couldn't care less what Windows can run on. But you are right in choosing the tool that gets your job done. I use Ubuntu for that. You use Windows. We're both happy.
@MsPwain If you need bash to do stuff in your daily basis I think Linux does it well. Still you can do it also on Windows using the built-in Notepad and it goes as well as linux to do .bat files. It really goes to what you do everyday that you choose your OS. Even if I would not game at all (I'm close to that), I'd buy a Mac...
@MsPwain Well in the past I've been an hater, a real one. But when I saw that it has the same stuff has windows that I use (Adobe Master Collection on both systems, Cakewalk Sonar X1, etc), I feel that it's a good OS, working good. Still, I'm so used to Visual C# and Visual C++ in windows and I still play games... My dream job is working at Adobe and they have Windows 7 computers (I asked them) to do programming (they use C++ for Flash). I love windows, I like mac, I accept linux.
@MsPwain Still Flash is created by Adobe, it'll make sense to use Flash by Adobe. It's like doing C# in Linux. You'll reply me "use Mono Developer". It doesn't work on my Fedora (I had fun last week after school to format my Linux :D)
who needs to do that? why not just go on google images and look for the windows sign?

@Radu287 Yes it is compared to MAC OSX and Linux as it is very unstable and most likely to crash alot. Linux is probs the best as it is soo stable and unlikely to crash :D
Sil3ntSnipaz 1 year ago
@Sil3ntSnipaz Yes I am with you on that one and I agree Mac OS X and some linux distros are better than window, but still... still windows 7 is a great os. I am not a microsoft fanboy or anything, but i have to say that i use win7 home premium since june 2010 and i didn't have any bsod, os crash or anything.
Radu287 1 year ago
@Radu287 They all are good operating systems and your choice of which depends on your level of expertise with computer systems and the purpose that you use the system.
Sil3ntSnipaz 1 year ago
@Sil3ntSnipaz I'm sorry, but to say all Operating systems are good is like saying all Mexican restaurants make their burritos the same way. It all looks the same for the most part, but there are small differences that make one better than another, or make someone favor. If they were all good, OS wars wouldn't really happen.
Unix/Linux forever.
rifall 1 year ago
@rifall If in your opinion other operating systems are bad then ask yourself why people buy them? Just because other Operating Systems don't suit your use doesn't mean that you can say that they are bad. If everyone thought that Linux was superior then the entire computer systems community would run it but they don't.
Sil3ntSnipaz 1 year ago
@Sil3ntSnipaz I'm not saying all OS's are bad, even though, many are. The sad truth is, only a few operating systems are beyond satisfactory. Windows does meet my needs in many ways. However, Ubuntu and Mac OSX meet my needs better and have given me far fewer problems.
To continue with the analogy, two burritos may fill me up the same, but one could be filled with fish, which I'm alergic to. Even if it's cheaper and bigger, I wouldn't buy it because it doesn't suit my needs properly.

Merlinofdeathmatel 1 year ago
@Merlinofdeathmatel I tested Windows 7 and I returned back to Linux thanks to Windows 7. I used XP for many years and I loved it. Vista and 7 are full o0f bugs. there are more people that have problems with it than there are people that have no problems with it. I am fixing more pc's than I have to do with XP. Moost of the users want there XP back. I install it back for them on a new system that was built for Windows 7. With XP the bugs are gone. Some want linux because they hate now Windows.

89990000 10 months ago
@thespawn076 that's why Windows is everywhere. surely because it's crap. Linux is crap, you should say. For example, tell me in 15 seconds how to install Flash Player on Linux. IMPOSSIBLE. On windows? get to adobe website + install and that's it. SAME for firefox, in windows, download + install. Compared to fkin linux, where the computer must be managed by command prompts.
xboxnissan 9 months ago
@xboxnissan go to Adobe Website, download the Version you need for your Distribution and install. Not more complex as Windows. Firefox? Go to your package installer, search for Firefox and press install. But if you want, you can install ist per Commands, too. Not complex. packages are just a little bit different, but doubleclick shouldn't be a problem. And if you need once commands, what is the problem? Type 5 words and your pc gives you an answer.
MetalheadBuser 9 months ago
@MetalheadBuser TOTALLY WRONG. Go see by yourself: Download yourself fedora, you'll see it's so fking complex. And yes, being a windows user, I hate to install everything from command prompts. It's annoying to see plain text in 2011, why the fk couldn't linux does upgrades to do more graphic stuff? We are in 2011, and linux can't have a decent way to install stuff? The ONLY (who cares but still) thing I like that Linux has is Compiz Fusion (it's useless, I know.).
xboxnissan 9 months ago
@xboxnissan there are so many Linux Distributions out there, why dont you take a simple one like Ubuntu or Mint? Those two are so fking easy. Two Month ago I had no experience with Linux, but it works so damnd much better than windows. And if you like to install sth. in Fedora, this System uses RPM Packages. Download, doubleclick and install, that easy. BTW: there's enough graphic stuff. I use Ubuntu at the Moment and Command Pronts are very rare. You'll need them most times if u need Rootrights
MetalheadBuser 9 months ago
@MetalheadBuser Let's play Crysis 2.... oopps... you can't
xboxnissan 9 months ago
@xboxnissan Yes you can, Just get a program called wine or crossover games ad you can play all .exe (windows) games.
pd3331 9 months ago
@pd3331 get => buy a program to run games? Yes sure... I'm a cracker and I should be able to get it (Still not convinced). Still how can you explain that my windows 7 boots faster than my linux? I tried once to run my windows (that has Adobe CS5 Master Collection + Visual Studio Ultimate + tons of progs) boots faster than my linux that has nothing (because there is no program to install...) ?
xboxnissan 9 months ago
@xboxnissan You don't buy wine or crossover games thear free. And Boot time, IDK
My 1GB ram computer with ubuntu 10.04 boots up in 15 sec
My 3GB ram Computer (with windows 7) boots up in 1.46 min
pd3331 9 months ago
@pd3331 I feel sorry for your 1 gb of ram lol... anyways. You can't change someone isn't it? Linux will still remain behind Mac and Windows (i'm not a win7 fanboy.), because of lack of drivers and capabilities. I don't say linux sucks, I say that it can't do all things that Mac and Windows can do.
xboxnissan 9 months ago
@xboxnissan I think you right you cant change some things and linux will remain behind mac and windows
pd3331 9 months ago
@pd3331 Think about it: No one will invest in free stuff. It's all about money. Still, you get better service when you pay. That's the point of Mac and Windows: simplify everyday manners. If really everybody in the planet wouldn't care about having graphic things, maybe Linux would be in front. Still, it's impossible that Linux becomes better than Windows and Mac.
xboxnissan 9 months ago
@xboxnissan My windows computer is great for videos and games but I use my Ubuntu all the time its worth the money. I also think your right about the money, thats what windows and mac are in the computer market for. Who Knows some one day Linux will be the best
pd3331 9 months ago
@pd3331 I don't think so man. It's really about what you do. Is true force of Linux is the command line. But since you can easily make yours on windows using .bat type of files, I don't see why I would use linux. I prefer the interface of Windows and Mac over Linux. Mac came up in last years, I've changed my mind about mac (I was a hater, not now, I find Mac very great). Windows still remain my choice until I have the money to spend overpriced product (Macs), still they are quality products.
xboxnissan 9 months ago
@xboxnissan 1GB of RAM is all I need to run Ubuntu and all the effects. Programs do not feel slow at all (and honestly, that was a huge problem for me on Vista).
I think Ubuntu can run on 256MB RAM if needed (though Compiz will probably need at least 512mb).
MsPwain 9 months ago
@MsPwain haha, when Compiz is the only feature I like from Linux and needs 512 mb, guess what... win7 requires 512 mb unlike Vista.... Secondly you can't play games, do Adobe stuff (Photoshop, After Effects,....) and doesn't have iTunes. I can keep on listing what I need in my daily basis: Guitar Pro 6 (Win+Mac), Guitar Rig 4 (Win+Mac), Brink (Win+360+PS3). The only explanation my teacher (of Linux) told me why Linux is better: because it was before windows. It's not a valid argument.
xboxnissan 9 months ago
@xboxnissan haha the linux-before-windows-thing is really no argument xD
(but the adobe and guitar-stuff is no argument, too: there is a tool, called wine, that lets you run windows-applications within linux. Anyway, playing windows-games with linux is always a bit nasty :D )
The thing that really stands out in linux is the command-line! It may sound funny, because the most people don't use it, but it's really comfortable.
But.. I think that M$ did a great job with Win7! ;-)

MsPwain 9 months ago
@xboxnissan Compiz itself only takes up around 5 - 25mb. But I would say, the total amount of memory should not be under 512Mb. But it really depends on your graphic card, and also it depends on what plugins you need. The main compiz settings are enabled in almost every Ubuntu install. And I think Ubuntu min. specs are 512Mb.
I couldn't care less what Windows can run on. But you are right in choosing the tool that gets your job done. I use Ubuntu for that. You use Windows. We're both happy.
MsPwain 9 months ago
@MsPwain If you need bash to do stuff in your daily basis I think Linux does it well. Still you can do it also on Windows using the built-in Notepad and it goes as well as linux to do .bat files. It really goes to what you do everyday that you choose your OS. Even if I would not game at all (I'm close to that), I'd buy a Mac...
xboxnissan 9 months ago
@xboxnissan I mostly do audio/video-editing and make websites, and so far Linux is doing a good job there.
I have been thinking of buying a Mac, I have heard this is something it does well.. The only thing is the price...
MsPwain 9 months ago
@MsPwain What about buying a Mac + Dreamweaver + Photoshop + After Effects + Premiere?
xboxnissan 9 months ago
@xboxnissan Yeah... That wouldn't be bad. Exept I am not really into WYSIWYG. But Photoshop I miss (sometimes) on Linux.
BTW: What convinced you that Mac is good? Does it have better programs than Windows or Linux for surden things?
MsPwain 9 months ago
@MsPwain Well in the past I've been an hater, a real one. But when I saw that it has the same stuff has windows that I use (Adobe Master Collection on both systems, Cakewalk Sonar X1, etc), I feel that it's a good OS, working good. Still, I'm so used to Visual C# and Visual C++ in windows and I still play games... My dream job is working at Adobe and they have Windows 7 computers (I asked them) to do programming (they use C++ for Flash). I love windows, I like mac, I accept linux.
xboxnissan 9 months ago
@xboxnissan How old are you? ten or eleven years? Get a live!
The only reason why we can't play direct X games is that it's Microsuck exclusive. OpenGL is as good as direct btw.
Oh! I forgot! I CAN play Crysis 2 on Linux! /watch?v=9WgjTpZBAgQ
MetalheadBuser 9 months ago
@xboxnissan I have never installed Flash. It did that itself on Mint.
MsPwain 9 months ago
@MsPwain Still Flash is created by Adobe, it'll make sense to use Flash by Adobe. It's like doing C# in Linux. You'll reply me "use Mono Developer". It doesn't work on my Fedora (I had fun last week after school to format my Linux :D)
