  • That "Dust devil" was a landspout.

  • thats a pretty tornado, and it doesnt seem to be near any populated areas so no danger (at least from what i see in the video) so this tornado is a harmless beauty

  • Wow, so strange looking!

  • When it was dissipated it still left all that dust, looked like a bomb went off

  • dude....baby...basement....one could drop onto your house....

  • Landspouts are common along the Front Range of Colorado, and unlike their F-5 cousins, they aren't usually as destructive to people and property.

  • 0:22 wtf moan?? lol wtf was dat?? lol

  • Those are the type of Tornados I like to see. They barley move.

  • very impressive tornado! nice capture!

  • ! xD

It kinda looks like, an arm on earth.

The earth is trying to protect us, so the

eart arm grabs the tornado! xD Damn, it's like 2 powerfull energie's make contact.

  • nice vid!

  • I'm pretty sure by now they realize they had 3 landspout tornadoes on the ground. She actually did a good job filming it. So now she has actually seen 4 tornadoes. But the bottom wasn't anywhere close to being a quarter mile wide. It was just closer too her than what she thought it was. That black car in the video was very close to it. I was trying to see if I could see Roger Hill's vehicle in that video. I chase storms, but I still want to see a landspout tornado up close, they look awesome.

  • really 1/4 mile?

  • absolutely top video - they are all landspout tornadoes - not dust devils. Dust devils do not extend from the bases of clouds. awesome stuff - well done!

  • remember hearing about that in 4th grade

  • yea it's a tornado, doesn't look too powerful though

  • TORNADO

    Not a dust devil.

    Wonderful catch!

Try to brace your camcorder on something steady.

    4:34 was also interesting.

    Thank you for posting this.

Tornadoes usually always move northeast or east.

  • Seen this same type of funnel near Gordon, Nebraska on June 10, '06. It is a landspout tornado. They can reach up to F-3 (the old rating system)and are caused by incredible shear aloft. In 20yrs. of chasing, I had never seen so much shear just above my head (seemingly) than that day in N.W. Nebraska. Several of these landspouts appeared...doing some serious home damage.

  • how does it bend like that

  • Hmmm, I'm stumped with this one. It has a large, pronounced base, like a landspout, but it has a visible tube all the way up into the clouds, like a rope tornado.

    Either way it's awesome footage.

  • must be EF0

  • You can't tell the rateing until if it dose damage. It's EF not F

  • who is the camrea man?

  • It's a landspout

  • @nadokid1 Which is a type of tornado.

  • aw! cool

  • deformed tornado?!! ☺ but it's really really COOL!!!!

  • i guess this just shows yall that wind is invisible - even though the funnel is so skinny - COOL VIdeo! where is this at!?

  • nice photos...rare video i think....ang good quality too.......easy to see all the details

  • Even a landspout's condensation funnel can reach the ground.

And here in Italy landspouts are often (probably almost always) associated with the jet stream.

The great difference lies in the absence of a mesocyclone and in the fact that the rotation starts at different levels: at 10.000 ft and near the ground respectively.

Anyway a landspout IS a tornado while a dust devil IS NOT.

  • Agreed, Both landspouts. No sign of a Mesocyclone. 2nd one, although no visible connecting condensation funnel, does have a tight circulation suggesting an invisible one.

Personally, I believe there are 3 classes of tornado-like apparitions. From nasty to nice... 1. Jet Stream Mesocyclonic (classic tornadoes), 2. Frontal Boundry (these landspouts, most waterspouts), and 3. Pure Thermal (dust devils). Backwards, 3,2,1 are required features for each.

  • The first one is Definitely a tornado, called a landspout. Landspout means the cloud or (condensation funnel) doesn't reach the ground, but the air circulation sucks up the dirt. Landspouts are still considered tornadoes and labeled dangerous (Can do up to F-3 damage). The 2nd one with the circulation is also the beginning stages of a landspout and IS a tornado, The only reason it wasn't all the way up to the clouds is the air circulation didn't suck enough dirt up :). Hope i was helpful!

  • It seems there is a 3d tornado on the right of the second one.

The 1st, with the condensation funnel, is a tornado of the "landspout" type.

Maybe the 2nd too is a landspout or a gustnado.

Eventually the 3d one could be like the 2nd.

    Obviously in my opinion :)

  • You're talking about second tornado? It was also tornado. Just check stormchase(dot)net/2006/20060820co(dot)htm to see more picture and extended video about the scecond tornado.

  • I think that it was a really strong dust devil, rather than a really weak tornado. There was not enough circulation and spin.

  • Dude it was a tornado, when she focused on the top it had side rotation at the base of the clouds.
