@The98GEAR No, monthly fees support the server stability, developers, and the game overall. Bioware wouldn't have been able to tackle such a massive project if this game was free to play or buy to play.
@cooleobrad1337 It has a fee when you buy it, by the way GW1 has 7 mil core player base.
Considering monthly fee P2P games, most of them are barely successful (WAR, AOC, AION, RIFT) even tor has a minor player base, and it will get smaller in a short time..
Even WoW is loosing their player pool, but those players are not migrating to these games at all!
F2P games that are successful are, well there is Silkroad, LoL, Cabal (games I do not like, but they are successful!).
@mozdonny Gw1 has 7 million active players? I seriously doubt that. SWTOR has a large playerbase considering the state of MMOs recently and is growing, the game is great. WoW is lossing player's but they aren't flocking to F2P MMOs, also LoL is not an MMORPG. Most F2P games are crappy, because their isn't a ton of financial backing which causes problems.
@mozdonny Have a shit ton of accounts made my little kids to fufill thier daily Entertainemt DOESNT make it succsessfull, making revenue proves their doing well, which is why F2P game dont even come on the leaderboard of good MMO's, wow's loosing players because blizzard seem to miss their target market but all other pay to plays are doing amazing.... and no, Guild Wars 1 does not have 7 million active players, it has 7 million accounts registered with about 3 million average still logging in
@MrRonock And where do you know which game makes what kind of revenue?
Also, you've meant profit, not revenue, since if they have huge expanses, they may make a small profit dispite of the enormous revenue!

@MrRonock This way for instance, blizzard may make less profit than arenanet, since they may have expenses that arenanet does not need to care about, for instance help desk services, which may be handled by NCSOFT for GW, or marketing costs!
This way we can't really determine who made the bigger profit, and can only speculate on such informations. P2P on regular bases usually means a certain income, but these titles bear the biggest overall costs of all!

@UndercoverCracker I too am looking forward to GW2 immensively, but honestly this game is REALLY good. The story, the questing and the PVP is all really good. @UndercoverCracker That's incredibly naive. For what it's worth, while I have and abseloutely love ToR, I'm also really looking forward to GW2. That said, it carries a huge risk. There's a massive scope for failure, and you're deluding yourself if you think there isn't. APB was a hugely unique MMO; it failed, the developers went bust shortly after. Developers who had seen huge success with Crackdown earlier. Plus I'm not a fan of all the in-game purchases.
@blueb0g How can you love something which has been done far too much. The only unique thing about SWTOR is there is better story...I do not think it has a massive scope for failure because I know that people want something fresh and new. I think you are delusional if you can't see it. Also in GW2 the items are for vanity only.
@UndercoverCracker You're being incredibly naive. Just because people want something doesn't mean the developers can't fuck up. It will undoubtedly be fresh and new - that doesn't mean it's going to work. Historically, huge departures from established trends have carried huge risks, and often ended in failure. Again, see APB. And yup, SWTOR is hardly unique. That doesn't mean it can't be good; it's taken solid, tested gameplay elements, refined them, and added a good story.
@UndercoverCracker You keep returning to this broken point. What does it matter if they have past experiences with MMO's? GW1 wasn't even very brilliant in its own right and GW2 is going to be a huge departure; there are a lot of new ideas in GW2 that have never been tested. Don't get me wrong, I think NCsoft is talented; but NOBODY is safe from failure. Again, realtimeworld's and APB - realtimeworlds weren't a new company. They still went bankrupt.
@UndercoverCracker Why do I need to do the research? What they say they'll do and what they actually do could be two totally different things. How ignorant of you to just assume and preach on about a game that- not only has it not come out yet- but you act as arrogant as you've made it yourself. lol. Personally I'm tired of the whole orcs, elves and spells deal. As long as Bio-ware is holding the reigns, SWTOR will be around for a long time, and that's fine by me- its a great game.
@SVPrelude First of all 0 orcs and 0 elves...SWTOR has spells...If you read and actually saw the experience and passion of the team behind GW2 you could easily see it will be great. GW1 was great for what it was. There are so many fresh ideas going into GW2 while SWTOR is the same old crap for the most part. It is time for a damn change.
in similar to wow you mean similar to other mmorpgs nothing is different in wow than most other mmos except its well made. wow didn't invent the wheel they just made it roll smooth. it is not the first mmorpg so please don't say like wow as though wow was the first or revolutionary in anyway lol. i am not a wow hater use to play it, but just saying.
@Dreadzedan They only said it is similar to WoW (which it is) not that WoW was the most creative and innovative MMO of all time and SW:TOR should be ashamed for trying to be it. There is no need to get defensive.
@Dreadzedan The reason I compared it to WoW was, 1. That's what most people looking at this game are playing or have already played. 2. Blizzard perfected the EQ formula and made WoW a fantastic game.
Can anyone tell me if the game play is anything like rift... I hated rift the response system was shit and to slowed for me, i'm hoping swtor is more like wow's response system.
You guys are missing the point that we are being served same meal wev been eating for 5-6 years (wow) in new shape, will this be enought to attract and keep new players? I dont know but the last thing i want is another game like WoW.
@carcinoma1 I don't think anyone is missing the point about that. I've addressed it in the video, and I think most people would agree that the vast majority of MMOs post 2004 were very similar to WoW (everquest). This game has enough unique content to not be considered a "WoWclone", but stays close enough to the "wow formula" so that the gameplay is smooth, addictive, and familiar.
@carcinoma1 Then don't play another MMORPG because they aren't changing anytime soon. ANYTIME you make a game that has many players there's little room around the only format that works.
I played enough MMOs to know there's little room around it. This game is still NOT the same dish; the story immersion adds to the enjoyment of the game dramatically. If you ever played mass effect you'll know what I'm talking about.
@nesnahprotsdam From the way your acting it would appear that your acting more "kid" like. When people say this game is "WoWish" sure I think they are partially right. The reason WoW leaves more of an impression is because it was more successful than Ultima or other MMOS that as you claim that set the standard. And looking at some MMO elements of SWTOR I would argue that it is more similar to WoW than say Ultima Online or Other mmos before that.
They wasted all the time and money just to make wow clone in star wars universe? WTF, they should have evolve the formula of mmo, do something new. Combat looks lame, wowstyle :P.
Imo it wont be a big hit for long because ppls are tired of wow and they dont really want another wowclone.
@carcinoma1 SWTOR has similar mechanics to WoW, but adds so much more. This is coming from a guy who has thought that basically each mmo that came out after WoW was just a WoWclone. SWTOR adds dialogue options, different choices, dark and light side points, companions, personal star ships, unique story for every single class, fully voice acted (by talented actors), Fun world pvp (outlaws den and illum), RPG elements, and more. Try out the game before you form opinions about it.
@maciek1929940 Basically, the cover system can only be used by smugglers and imperial agents. And while in cover it greatly increases your chances of dodging attacks (if you aren't firing back I think you can dodge them completely).
Guys please, all video games are an INNOVATION of another, no new video game is an INVENTION. WM3 coppied james bond golden eye.. WoW coppied everquest. SWTOR is a revolutionary game for all MMO's and starwars is one of the most classic popular series ever. So please Play it and enjoy it :) Thankyou
Why do you fags get so butt hurt when somebody says this is like wow.
Are you implying that they didn't steal things from World of Warcraft? Or does that word 'Steal' get you mad? Does it make you less mad when someone says that this game, A lot like others. 'borrowed' World of Warcrafts style?
It's pretty much a fact that Blizzard was the first to come up with this style.
I don't even play wow. And to anyone who does, Have fun with your faggot pandas, cunts.
@kms3333 Well, actually, world of warcraft has very few original mechanics in the game. Most, if not all mechanics in WoW was "Stolen" from Everquest. Not trying to be a jackass, just trying to state the facts. Unlike many people on YT.
@kms3333 know your facts dude.. blizzard wasent the first to come up with this "style" it was everquester.. wow is just another copycat like all the other new mmo´s...
@kms3333 Mad mad person. Atleast get your facts straight and realise that everquest made this style of MMORPG years before WoW was even on the drawing board. Heck, even Ultima Online has several of the elements, but since most little kids don't know about these games.
They simply disregard any facts about them and go "huurrr durrr it must be like WoW, because i'm only 15 and that's the game I know" Instead of researching where the original formula is. You just learned something, kid.
@nesnahprotsdam If you can't recognize the very distinct differences in mechanics, integration, layout, coding, etc between WoW and those other games, you really shouldn't be talking about this. WoW did rip off some things from EQ and Ultima, sure. Those aren't the things people are talking about. It's the things that became WoW staples, that had very specific function and feel only found on WoW for quite some time, that games tend to copy these days, not the MMO standards.
Combat similar to wow? the combat in SWTOR is very smooth and fast paced but in wow I feel that if you play the warrior or paladin class it just feels a little static and boring. That's just my opinion :p
From what I played in it during a weekend test, the story feels great, the quests don't feel grindy, and I only really had 2 complaints about what I got to test... Until you hit about levels 9 or 10 the combat feels a bit clunky then becomes smooth after that, and it takes a bit to first get into, but once you do it feels nice. Then a minor complaint even if you have your companion selected the tooltips on gear compare to your toon so kinda annoying gearing your "pet" but that they can change.
I'm in the beta Got a lvl 14 BH and a lvl 17 JK Review is legit... this game is fun... what else do you want.. Its a fun game, put wow down and come join the sith. Gameplay 8 PVP 6 Story 9 Graphics 8 (Its an MMO lots to render any better and noone could run it) Classes 8 The game requires a bit of learning but its really good can't wait for the release
I really like the story content and the gameplay is solid enough. I just don't think they blend well at all. Playing with other people is rather awkward since the story content is best played alone. When you play with others you just want to experience the gameplay but the story is forced on you (in the open world) whether you like it or not.
If I were to treat it as a KotOR game, it's fantastic. As an MMO? Much less so. I'm not keen on indulging on single player aspects in a multiplayer game.
@DLuna333 The game is definately single player friendly, but bioware is doing a nice job of encouraging people to group with other players and play multiplayer. The flashpoints are very entertaining and group chat is done surprisingly well. I haven't gotten to experience ,much pvp but from what I've seen and heard it is very good. The Eternity Vault looks very fun as well but I'll have to wait and see
the story part is great, but the worlds are plastic and without soul and combat is the same ol song and dance and no pop to the force usage, same wow style 20 spells only ever use 2-4 of them adds need no cc or anything just the punch in the face and move on! if the game was anything other than star wars trash it! hope it can keep me bizzy till guild wars 2 comes out or will go back to rift, wow, or minecraft! on a 1-10 i give it a 7
@ousmokeit I gotta disagree, you use alot more than just "4 spells". There is also a ton of CCing to do! I've done it tons while questing on my inquisitor. Have you even played the beta?
@spawntron Guild wars 2 isn't exactly groundbreaking, It all looks good on paper ' No tanks or healers so won't need to spam to get one' But when you get down to it, guild wars 2 doesn't add anything to the genre, if anything it takes it away and makes it even less of an MMO format, which completely defeats the object. Combat looks sloppy, interface is just another rehashed WoW clone and the questing system looks beyond shite. All guild wars 2 has is graphics, and even they aren't 'superior'
I really want to play an mmo for combat and I hate the current combat in mmos are there any mmos improving on this I mean story is good and all but id rather have good combat I can get my good personal stories in single player rpg's
@foller123 If you want a game with different styled combat check out GW2 that comes out spring of next year I think. Darkfall and Mortal Online are very different from today's mmos and have elder scrolls/ fps style combat with a huge emphasis on PvP .
Great video! From what I've seen on this show I think this game looks amazing. Now, people have slammed the graphics. But! Look at the graphics in the companion dispatch. They looked epic!
Is there a class/spec that would be close to a mage or warlock in WoW? I heard the Consular Shadow is like a rogue... is there a non-stealth caster class/spec that can dps? Thanks
it is not a wow clone it is beyond words in how spectacular my experience was while leveling, doing instances, and pvping...best mmo to date by far...revolutionizes everything I have seen...no one should be on the fence
I was part of the (11.11.11 Squadron), I only played one character during the 3 days. What I found when I played it was the story drew me in right away and kept me wanting more as I progressed. Combat is fun with a lot of challenging aspects that you hit a bit later. I played a Healer and coming from RIFT/WoW it's much more challenging and CC is a must during some quests.
I love the difficulty if something goes wrong and it feels good to overcome the challenges you face.
For the problems with day/night cycle and no swimming or collision with water, Bioware has made comments stating they would put that in post launch. We will have to wait and see how it is done, more importantly, whether it works well.
@silverdante87 Colission with water was added 2 days ago or so. At the same time the character database got wrecked! Looking forward to BW actually patching without breaking peoples characters.
I was in the beta a little over a month ago (Squadron 367), and I absolutely loved the game. After the beta weekend was over, I went back to my other games, WoW included, and stood there for a few seconds. The only thing I did was think to myself "what in the hell am I doing here? This is so mundane." SWTOR is going to be an amazing game, I just hope that they have enough content for the end game to keep us all happy.
The graphics are "terrible" according to a lot of people even though only one of my 4 computers can run it. The requirements to play this game comfortably are actually pretty high.
- Your Companion Characters that can define who you are and do your bidding
- YOUR Character can be who ever you want AND it affects how other people see you in story, it is just amazing how you can actually give your character an entire life and live it out the way YOU want it, and consequences come with your actions, IT IS JUST AMAZING!
the reason they did cartoon style graphics is because if they did it realistically in 2 or 3 yeas another game would come out with even more realistic art style, but if they make it cartoony in 2 or 3 years the graphics will stay the same so you can stay with it you wont have to dump it for the next most realistic looking game. And lemme just say i love the physics in this game. Unlike other mmos there are physics in this game like bounty hunter rockets sends people flying and such. just love it
I find it stupid that you can't swim, there's that shallow puddle in front of you to get aross, but no, you have to go around and cross a bridge... all because they can't affoard to make some extra animations. Considering 60-70% of the budget was blown on voice acting (and I've heard it had a huge budget) doesn't mean you can skip some other stuff. Not the most important of aspects in a game like this but oh well. Solid game almost al around, I just don't like EA and what BioWare has turned into
@NeoXF no you can walk through a lot of water, it's disappointing there isn't swimming I agree but hopefully bioware adds swimming in with an underwater planet later on :)
I've been playing wow since the year after release and I have to say SWTOR is much better. WoW is more here's your quest go kill eight things and come back to me. or go do this aggravating quest where the item has an incredibly low drop rate. I didn't get that with SWTOR even though there were drop quests I always seemed to have another quest to kill the same enemy which made it seem less grindy. so SWTOR gets my seal of approval
WoW has an amazing story. I love reading the quest texts. Then again I was a huge fan of the RTS games so that could be part of it. As for this game I'm still on the fence. I'm more excited for GW2, but this game could be fun. Personally I wish they would've just made it into a huge massive single player game while keeping a similar format just like kingdom of amular(sp)
@z3llmer WoW has a good story, you just don't feel very connected with it, at least I didn't. SWTOR engages you with fully voiced quests and dialogue interaction.
@heartkiller82 Lies, why would they camp out for SWTOR a month before? Why wouldn't they just pre-order or you know, buy it online? Uhh yeah, no way. Fabricating a useless lie for no reason and 17 people upvote you?
@Shruken18 * slow dramatic clap * so your the only smart one in the bunch, you see, shruken18, it was part of my plan the whole time for dumbasses to thumb me up ones that dont think before they act or just straight up retards. you see im a thumbs up whore lies are my main focus so your the sharpest tool in the shed the only sMart one but ill NEVER GIVE UP MY QUEST TO BE THE BIGGEST THUMBS UP WHORE ON ALL OF YOUTUE!!! @blueb0g But the people making Guild Wars 2 have past experience with MMO style games...They aren't just some new company throwing out new ideas.
UndercoverCracker 2 months ago
@UndercoverCracker You keep returning to this broken point. What does it matter if they have past experiences with MMO's? GW1 wasn't even very brilliant in its own right and GW2 is going to be a huge departure; there are a lot of new ideas in GW2 that have never been tested. Don't get me wrong, I think NCsoft is talented; but NOBODY is safe from failure. Again, realtimeworld's and APB - realtimeworlds weren't a new company. They still went bankrupt.
blueb0g 2 months ago
@UndercoverCracker Why do I need to do the research? What they say they'll do and what they actually do could be two totally different things. How ignorant of you to just assume and preach on about a game that- not only has it not come out yet- but you act as arrogant as you've made it yourself. lol. Personally I'm tired of the whole orcs, elves and spells deal. As long as Bio-ware is holding the reigns, SWTOR will be around for a long time, and that's fine by me- its a great game.
SVPrelude 2 months ago
@SVPrelude First of all 0 orcs and 0 elves...SWTOR has spells...If you read and actually saw the experience and passion of the team behind GW2 you could easily see it will be great. GW1 was great for what it was. There are so many fresh ideas going into GW2 while SWTOR is the same old crap for the most part. It is time for a damn change.

@Dreadzedan They only said it is similar to WoW (which it is) not that WoW was the most creative and innovative MMO of all time and SW:TOR should be ashamed for trying to be it. There is no need to get defensive.
PivotXL1 2 months ago
@Dreadzedan The reason I compared it to WoW was, 1. That's what most people looking at this game are playing or have already played. 2. Blizzard perfected the EQ formula and made WoW a fantastic game.

You guys are missing the point that we are being served same meal wev been eating for 5-6 years (wow) in new shape, will this be enought to attract and keep new players? I dont know but the last thing i want is another game like WoW.
carcinoma1 2 months ago
@carcinoma1 I don't think anyone is missing the point about that. I've addressed it in the video, and I think most people would agree that the vast majority of MMOs post 2004 were very similar to WoW (everquest). This game has enough unique content to not be considered a "WoWclone", but stays close enough to the "wow formula" so that the gameplay is smooth, addictive, and familiar.
cooleobrad1337 2 months ago
@carcinoma1 Then don't play another MMORPG because they aren't changing anytime soon. ANYTIME you make a game that has many players there's little room around the only format that works.
I played enough MMOs to know there's little room around it. This game is still NOT the same dish; the story immersion adds to the enjoyment of the game dramatically. If you ever played mass effect you'll know what I'm talking about.
MRKetter81 2 months ago

Imo it wont be a big hit for long because ppls are tired of wow and they dont really want another wowclone.
carcinoma1 2 months ago
@carcinoma1 Stupid comment. Have you even seen the story? Each character has a different story and STORY is important. It's like Dragon Age Online...

@carcinoma1 Plus the questing system is completey redone. As you can see, there is no exclamation and question mark points....
Reloading26 2 months ago
@carcinoma1 SWTOR has similar mechanics to WoW, but adds so much more. This is coming from a guy who has thought that basically each mmo that came out after WoW was just a WoWclone. SWTOR adds dialogue options, different choices, dark and light side points, companions, personal star ships, unique story for every single class, fully voice acted (by talented actors), Fun world pvp (outlaws den and illum), RPG elements, and more. Try out the game before you form opinions about it.

maciek1929940 2 months ago
@maciek1929940 Basically, the cover system can only be used by smugglers and imperial agents. And while in cover it greatly increases your chances of dodging attacks (if you aren't firing back I think you can dodge them completely).

And to anyone who does, Have fun with your faggot pandas, cunts.
kms3333 2 months ago
@kms3333 Well, actually, world of warcraft has very few original mechanics in the game. Most, if not all mechanics in WoW was "Stolen" from Everquest. Not trying to be a jackass, just trying to state the facts. Unlike many people on YT.
blueblurblahblee462 2 months ago

brandonskate1 2 months ago
@kms3333 Actually everquest came up with this style.
cooleobrad1337 2 months ago
@kms3333 Mad mad person. Atleast get your facts straight and realise that everquest made this style of MMORPG years before WoW was even on the drawing board. Heck, even Ultima Online has several of the elements, but since most little kids don't know about these games.
They simply disregard any facts about them and go "huurrr durrr it must be like WoW, because i'm only 15 and that's the game I know" Instead of researching where the original formula is. You just learned something, kid.
nesnahprotsdam 2 months ago
@nesnahprotsdam If you can't recognize the very distinct differences in mechanics, integration, layout, coding, etc between WoW and those other games, you really shouldn't be talking about this. WoW did rip off some things from EQ and Ultima, sure. Those aren't the things people are talking about. It's the things that became WoW staples, that had very specific function and feel only found on WoW for quite some time, that games tend to copy these days, not the MMO standards.

DLuna333 3 months ago
@DLuna333 The game is definately single player friendly, but bioware is doing a nice job of encouraging people to group with other players and play multiplayer. The flashpoints are very entertaining and group chat is done surprisingly well. I haven't gotten to experience ,much pvp but from what I've seen and heard it is very good. The Eternity Vault looks very fun as well but I'll have to wait and see

You may want to look into Guildwars 2 if your looking for a MMO with alot of new changes to the genre. Played it at Gamescon it was amazing...
spawntron 3 months ago
@spawntron Guild wars 2 isn't exactly groundbreaking, It all looks good on paper ' No tanks or healers so won't need to spam to get one' But when you get down to it, guild wars 2 doesn't add anything to the genre, if anything it takes it away and makes it even less of an MMO format, which completely defeats the object. Combat looks sloppy, interface is just another rehashed WoW clone and the questing system looks beyond shite. All guild wars 2 has is graphics, and even they aren't 'superior'

- Your own Star Ship
