After being in a tank that size for 4 years, surely giving him up didn't do much for his quality of life. Once the damage is done to that extent, there's little hope for recovery.
i gave him general cure anti parasitic medication 48 hours ago and just did the last dose...he looks healthy in his eyes and face but he wont eat any peas or anything...i felt the bump and its hard can anyone please help?
thats the same oscar i have he is 7 inches long..but i have a problem the water was low in the tank so i added 5 gallons and maybe it was just a coinsidence but after that i found him on his side floating at the top with a big puffy bubble on his left bottom side he has been like this for days
lol...oui j'en mange, mais je ne mange pas les Oscar. (yes i eat jish but not oscars lol) The french was awesome!!! u wrote that your self or u got some help? lol anyways awesome!!
my oscar died today, he was 5 years old. i miss it already. I had to give it a quick death because it had hole in the head disease and it was suffering. poor thing. I know how ya feel bout givin up ur oscar. they are fish with personalities
yes he was 4 yrs old. I unfortunately had to give him up and is now in a large display tank. I've worked doing animal rescue and I couldn't bear him in the tank anymore I had him for a year out of his 4 years and was a beautiful fish. I let him go sniff sob cry.... He had personlaity and I swear one night he communicated get me the f@*k out of hear, Jesus lady lol lol But seriously I couldn't take it. I took him without understandin his needs and that was shitty of me, stupid if anything
When I moved him here I thought I was going to lose him he was listing really bad to one side and looked pale! But he has come around very well, I have noticed however he likes to beat the shit out of the heater with his head, is there anything I can do about that or to calm that behaviour down??
I believe they sell heaters that are enclosed in a filter, not sure though...
PS if you're still looking for a good pellet for him Hikari Cichlid pellets are great! Never seen any of my fish turn them down and it will also maintain his colors and health. Like Bama said water changes are a must in keeping these fish healthy and growing, 25% water changes should be done every week. BTW nice o
i hope your oscar snapped out of it, i see that was 8 months ago... it took mine about 3-4 months to get out of his funk when i moved, all he would do eveyday was lay on the bottom of the tank... i could drop food ON him and he wouldnt eat if anyone was in the room... but he snapped out of it and is back to normal and acting like an oscar again :)
Ya he looks good. I would get rid of all of those feeder fish and not feed him anymore of those. Feeder fish carry many diseases and are not a good diet at all. Feed him a good cichlid pellet twice a day and as a snack give him live crickets or worms. You can also buy frozen food/ freeze dried food for him. He will prob just hand out in the corner of the tank for a day because the move prob scared him. Don't worry that is norm. After a couple days he will be active.
Thankyou for posting and I appreciate the info. Those are to be the last feeder fish he will ever get!! The last thing I want for him is to get sick. I will get him some crickets instead...How old do u think he is???
How long is he? He has some scares on him and his colors are developed nicely so I would guess at least 3 years old. 3-5 years would be my guess, could be off though. He could live up to 12 years.
He has very nice fins which is a good sign. Is he more active now?
He looks good. Your right, as a rule every Oscar needs 55 gallons by himself. You also have to watch the nitrate level. Nitrates are usually not a big problem with most fish, but Oscars are different. Hole in the head is a big problem with these guys. Make sure you do your regular water changes and he should be fine. I have kept these fish for years with pretty good sucess. Good luck.
he is currently in a 33 gallon tank, he's about 6 inchs or so. 55 gallons I see will be a better environment for him. That is allI know and that he is a insectovor, insects taking up 60% of his diet is that correct. He has feeder gold fish and cichlid pellets daily is there something I am missing in his diet???
I Need info on this Guy? He Came with the tank, I understand he will be needing a much larger tank in the near future! Does he look good for his size? I Need info Guys

pin holes equals hole in the head hole in the head equals death

This doesn't mean hole in the head it's the fish sensory glands. They can sense changes in pressure it's like a sixth sense
