Have you ever thought about animating Yann Tiersen's work? He has a unique sound that remindes me a little of this, and I think it would be quite the visual treat!
@o0HannahMarie0o For contemporary music (or, at least, anything contemporary enough that it's still protected by copyright), I don't bother with it unless the composers and/or performers ask me themselves. I've spent too much time going down blind alleys in search of permissions from people who aren't interested in what I do.
@smalin Ah, that makes sense, it's too bad contemporary composers don't show more interest in this, it is really intresting way to listen and visualize music. I am always listening and watching your videos, it it such a great and different way to experience my favorite classical pieces. It gives me (and probably a lot of other people) a new appreciation for the complexity of classical composition
I don't want to sound stupid but.......I'm trippin' out man.........seriously. watching this video is making me feel funny. it's not like those other midi video's i watched man, I mean that's stuff good and all, but...whoa...man this is some good shit.
Its like a broken heart, a parting, a longing, it reveals the undesired moments in life that makes you feel just the way this song makes you feel. Pure sadness, hopelessness. People who suffered a lot in life will find this sympathetic. And its the brilliance of Wick for reflecting a pure feeling to music. For making people feel the same even if they haven't felt the same before in life. Its a success on its own. It in a way reminds you that the life is not always perfect, cheerful journey.
I hope you see all the success in the world smalin. You really bring something special to these works of art that would otherwise be unnoticed by the average person. Your program gives even the newer listener a visual anchor to the music to better understand the audio part of their senses. Thanks.
@ts404 You're quite welcome. For me, the fact that millions of people are watching my videos is success. Now that I'm retired, I can spend all my time working on this. I am quite fulfilled. Now I just want to live forever and keep doing it.
@ikschrijflangenamen Each pitch class in the circle of fifths (C, G, D, A, ... F) is given a color corresponding to its position on the "color wheel." This means that pitches that are closely related on the circle of fifths (e.g. C and G) are most similar in color.
@mikedressner so what if its emotional? there is no theme in it. everybody knows that you should be able to hum the melody of a composition, and you can't hum anything here. This is like elevator music, no point, no need.
@YelIowMamba Bach`s prelude 1 of well tempered clavier book 1, doesn`t have a melody, and it`s very emotional and expresive, and a lot of xx century music too.
I´m learning this piece btw, the only one i have been interested that isn´t pure classical music, Aero is more like New Age, i`m not sure. It´s great anyway.
I feel that the song is about truth unfolding. You can't help but to be true to yourself, and accept the truth.I wrote stuff non stop when listening to this music with the beautiful animation.I've to keep replaying it to keep writing.Brilliant music and presentation as always.
...wow. This is really great for a piece of music like this, the presentation really lets you see the amazing amount of stuff that is going on. Great work on your part my friend. Oh also I was like "look out here it comes!" when I saw that HUGE ending chord coming up lol.
this is such a beautiful piece. i like the neutrality of the melody and how it evokes a sense of spacelessness and mental stasis. i know there's the odd flat third, hinting at a minor key, but it still remains to be a more optimistic minor feel.
A very good composition from a composer I didnt here about before.
I have to say that the first half of this composition is amazing in its complexity, and offers so many options, how ever after about 3:15 min the composer seems to fall into a harmonic trap which sounds lovely but its simplicity ruins it for me.
@heilweil Yeah, I know what you mean. I do that sometimes when I'm just freestyling on the piano: kinda playing the same right hand melody and just going down the scale of the key with my left hand...'course I wouldn't use that in an actual original composition...
What made you split the bottom part into two parts at 1:27? Before, it was a single line that alternated between two notes, and then after, you made it seem like two separate lines happening at the same time.
@muffinsarelife1 I don't think the MIDI file is publicly available (I got it from Steffen to make this video). I'm not currently planning to do more of Wick's pieces, but if this one goes viral, I will consider it.
I am sure, the six people, who didn't like this video, made a mistake, actually, they wanted to click on thumbs up, someone pushed them from behind, so they accidently clicked the disklike button...

Thanks to you abd Steffen for this video. Much love, Nacho ^_^
stunning composition! And this is a perfect visualization. It really captures the colors well, the white screen and light colors reflect the reverb and background noise (voices and strings?) and the movement shown of separate parts in their own lines helps with seeing the patterns of this somewhat minimalist style.
The soothing, floating accompaniment from the middle registers with the soaring, dissonant higher registers playing that pulchritudinous melody and that dreamy, sporadic bass register banging in pressure points throughout this piece makes it one of my favorite listens ever. Stunning.
