Just think of it as the TV version. Even though its not. Alan Arkin makes a great Clouseau in the same way Tony Randall made a great Felix Unger. Also, any Pink Panther movie filmed in 1968 will immediately beat a Pink Panther movie filmed in 1982, 1983, 1993, 2006 or 2009.

Meh, Arkin did as well as could be expected, but of course, he was no Peter Sellers, anymore than Roberto Benigni in SON OF THE PINK PANTHER, or Roger Moore as the surgically-altered Clousseau in CURSE OF THE PINK PANTHER. You may note, though, in the opening credits, the animated Clousseau here is the same one featured in the INSPECTOR cartoons which accompanied the PANTHER ones on 60's Saturday morning TV.

Actually, the timeline is Arkin, Sellers and THEN Martin. But I've got to admit Sellers made it better. Then again, I couldn't tell if Steve Martin was playing the part of 'The Jerk' in France or the part of Clouseau.

Nice to see, again, some of the comedy actors of days gone by - such as the Scotland Yard inspector who ALSO played the same role in the Beatle's film 'HELP!'.

If I set aside my favoritism for Sellers for a moment, I can say that Arkin didn't do a bad job. Some of the lines and scenes were a bit awkward and forced, but that's about it. It didn't look like it had a loose approach like Evil Roy Slade (also with Arkin).

I don't think the Steve Martin renditions are horrible like some critics do. I have no preference for either of the films; both have ups and downs.
