Chinese encompasses both mandarin and cantonese speakers. Where Cantonese and manadrin are the dailects. While chinese is the common language and characters used. An extremely difficult concept to grasp if your not of chinese decent, and do not have a knowledge of both spoken mandarin and cantonese.
