  • lol at the glory hole.. seems like a real cool place

  • I now have this on my must-see list.

    Thank you.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • @GeorgeVreelandHill You're welcome! Hope you have a good time!

  • The Ballad of Calico was a great album about this town by Kenny Rogers and the 1st Edition. Great album!!

  • memorable to me as this is the first time i've been to a mining place.

  • Can you metal detect in this ghost town or any ghost towns?

  • @TonyGreens99 You won't find anything.

  • you do know that this tourist atraction isnt the real town of calico is behind the hills bet you didnt know that

  • @superchickrocs1 Actually, many of the original buildings are right there in the town. You must be thinking of the mines?

  • @CaliforniaTravelTips nope only four original buildings remain in the town what i told u is a employee

  • @superchickrocs1 Yes, I point out the four original buildings in the video....Thanks for sharing.

  • They should've shot the movie Cowboys and Aliens here instead of Universal Studios ~~ Nessa :)

  • been there last year (autumn). Bloody hot over there!

  • @bugse1975 Fall and spring are the best times to visit. :)

  • Ghost town? It looks more like a movie set.

  • I love Calico!! My cousins camp there sometimes for memorial weekend, or Thanksgiving. When they take me we have a blast! Its so much fun! One year I went with them we stayed in the camp site next to the cemetery( that was awesome!) and then the other time we stayed in the canyon(which was cool also!) Calico is the best place to camp!

  • @woodyratsdog Camping sounds fun. We'll have to try that when the weather cools off this fall. :)

  • @CaliforniaTravelTips It is tons of fun, you should :)

  • Why didn't you accept my comment about the American Indian people? D:

Hiding the truth makes it worse... /:

  • @LegoSofaStudios What are you talking about? Haven't seen any comments about that.

  • CAN SOMEONE PLEASE MAKE A WEBSITE FULL OF OLD ABANDONED historical houses buildings etc... where people can foward there findings all over the world to the site,,i would i just dont know where to start

  • I love this video! I went for my 17th birthday years ago as I commented before. I went a few months ago. It was different than I remember but still great! I mean its been 10 years since I first went so I forgot. :p I love this video!! Awesome!!

  • @19steph83 Thank you Stephanie! :)

  • Once a ghost town is turned into a tourist attraction it loses almost all its intrigue for me. Give me a ghost town that is so remote that nobody ever goes there and has not been maintained to be artificially nice.

  • @2indulgent For something like this, check out Cerro Gordo near Lone Pine and Death Valley. It is very remote and rarely visited!

  • @2indulgent i know what you mean. plus, if i went there i would be worried for the ghosts. what must it be like to have your home turned into a public viewing site? and have people living there instead of you? a majority of them must be angry, and if they're not, then they're probably upset. i think its kinda dangerous to go to them kind of places. if the ghosts are angry, then some could try to kill people, or freak people out to get rid of them and reclaim their land. :S

  • A glory hole AND a bathhouse! YIKES!!!!

  • It looks like a really popular tourist spot, is it always like that? I passed by that place about a couple weeks ago and it didn't seem like it had much visitors.

  • @wildcat2114 It depends on the day. There are certain weekends that it gets really crowded, especially Father's Day, Mother's Day, etc.

  • 1:29

  • If you've never been to a ghost town before, California's a great place to find one..... insert California economy joke here

  • @RollOnToVictory

    AAHHHHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA!!

  • i love ghost towns:) i've been here and Tombstone, AZ. I used to live in Ft.Irwin, CA and Sierra Vista, AZ. Another really cool place to visit in Arizona is Bisbee, AZ.

  • Interesting the people wandering around takes you out of it, but still good.

  • man this is place when i wanna visit.

  • Not really a ghost town is it. I mean their are people their now touring the place so not a ghost town in reality.

  • @Guardians555 A ghost town refers to a deserted mining town. Even though it is being toured by visitors, it is still a "ghost town" because it is no longer inhabited as a real city.

  • forgot in last comment

a slurpee here is 10$ lol

  • i have been there twice, the first time i went camping it was boring except for exploring the "dangerous" mines there pretty cool. oh and dont go outside at night there are bugs everywhere lol.

second time i went with some friends to check out the mines and my car got stuck in the sand.it was a Monday afternoon and 110°f out and there was no one around ,was stuck there for like 7 hours. so take your jeep convertible Mercedes no good here lol

  • Several fine restaurants, and 22 saloons.

    LOL

  • IM GOIN THERE IN 2 DAYS!!

  • you should do a bodie ghost town

  • @SpartanHaloGuy Thanks. It's on our list. Snowed out right now though...

  • ive youve never been to a ghost town pripyat is a great place to find one!

  • Red dead redemption

  • I had good times at Calico growing up. Partying in the canyons next to Calico with friends & bonfire.

  • Knotts Berry Farm calls their Ghost Town area Calico.

  • @FoxPlant2006 Yes, the Knott family purchased the actual ghost town as well a long time ago. Now it is run by the park system.

  • ghost town?gta sa? xD

  • i used to go there when i was little! had sooo much fun :)

  • brings back memories from Mothers Day 2010! god i miss that place!

  • @assortedfish They'll be having their Calico Haunt coming up soon!

  • shes cute

  • I was there, and the desert sure isnt pretty

  • There are lots of great mines around there. There are no trespassing signs all around and some fences so they aren't really accessible. Fortunately for me I ignore no trespassing signs, fences and that sort of thing because they interfere with my ability to get a cheap thrill exploring places. I have been in dozens of those mines. Some of them have vertical drops hundreds of feet so you have to pay attention to where you step or you will become one of the ghosts in the ghost town.

  • I BEEN THERE A FEW TIMES, ITS OKAY, GETTIN KINDA RUNDOWN, NEEDS MORE GOLD AND SILVER PANNING/DREDGING THINGS GOING ON TO GET PEOPLE EXCITED. BRING YOUR OWN BEER, AND JUST KEEP POURING IT INTO THE BIGGEST BEER CUP THEY SELL, THEN YOUR FINE.

CHECK THIER WEBSITE FOR EVENT DATES, APPARENTLY THE LAST TIME I WAS THERE, WAS THE LAST TIME THEY WILL HAVE GUN FIGHTS.... BE SURE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THAT!!!!

  • The girl's got LONG ARMS and she looks GOOD!

  • beautiful and interesting

  • @Tavarith Thanks!

  • what ? ghost town ? not scary at all

  • @julietmustdie4 They aren't supposed to be scary. A ghost town is simply a former boom town (usually from the Gold Rush) that no longer has a community of residents. There must be surviving original buildings. Calico is all of these things, but it just happens to be run by the park system. Coloma, our latest video, was where the Gold Rush started. It is also a ghost town of sorts, even though it is run by the park system.

  • When cities are this well preserved, they kinda look like fakes :/

  • This place is a tourist trap for those going to Vegas. Skip it, trust me.

  • @reymatt76 Dont skip it! Its awesome and so much fun to see!

  • there is a forest near my home and in it we found a ghost village where we kicked in the doors and everything in the houses was still there in great shape a pretty scary thing so we decided to light the houses so no spooky things can live there lol

  • @kingmaxim187 Interesting. Where is this at?

  • @kingmaxim187 sounds cool. you should post a vid of it

  • Walter Knott? as in the moved Ghost town in Knotts Berry farm?

  • @thebttfchannel Yes, same Mr. Knott.

  • if its a ghost town like julian ca, COUNT ME OUT!!!!!

    NO TOURISTS!!!!

  • haha everyones laughing about the gloryhole line but no one mentions the "bathhouse" reference, Veronica and Jason i love all ur really cool videos.

  • @guynaz928 Thanks! :)

  • OMGEE i went there in fifth grade....I loved the People

  • glory hole 0.o

  • @Mdonkin961 Yeah, yeah.

  • Thanks for warning of happens after mining industry leaves town, you better tell Tony Abott and Aussie mining executives that.

  • @martbd unless towns have backup economic assets.

  • In the Mohave Desert on the way to LAS VEGAS!

  • Glory Hole? That must have had a different meaning than the one I know. If not, I'm not going to a ghost town to visit a Glory hole. On second thought, that might be kinda interesting.

  • @TheRiverRioGrande OK everyone. According to Wikipedia: In mining and excavation, a glory hole is an informal term for a large and impressive excavation open to the surface.

  • ive been to calico ghost town

  • we go dirtbike riding there alot

  • Déjà vu.

  • I usually hate when people type lol because they usually are not really laughing out loud. However when I saw the glory hole I really did lol!

  • really, from dusk till dawn was filmed in Victorville?! I lived in Victorville for 7 years and never knew this. Lived in Spring Valley Lake.

  • @hotdoggy854 Yes. They filmed it at the old A-shaped cafe off I-15. Think it's a Mexican place now. Other scenes were filmed around the area as well.

  • @hotdoggy854 lmao....you made my day

  • @hotdoggy854 Yes and actually from dusk till dawn was filmed in 97 so that was about 12 years ago, it was filmed up and down victorville check it for urself

  • looks like Beamish...

  • I don't like this gender of ghost towns, there are too many people!

I love so much the REAL ghost towns!

  • Booooo!!!

  • is there another town like this called "bodie" or something like that....?

  • Yes, Bodie is up north off the 395 near Mammoth Lakes. We plan on visiting this summer for a video. It's a much more authentic experience and I can't wait to go!

  • me and my dad go every year to see civil war renactment

  • How it that? I've never been.

  • reminds me of from dusk till dawn

  • That was actually filmed in Barstow and Victorville, right nearby! I actually was on the set...

  • @CaliforniaTravelTips really, from dusk till dawn was filmed in Victorville?! I lived in Victorville for 7 years and never knew that.

  • I never bothered checking out the tunnel, didn't know it was a 1000 feet long!

  • @Forston22

lol I know!!! This is Veronica's husband Jason, and I told her people were going to comment and laugh at "glory hole"!

  • I wanna go to the glory hole

  • Lots of characters from the Old West were

still living when my dad was a kid:

Bat Masterson, Wyatt Earp, Annie Oakley,

Mark Twain, Cole Younger, Frank James,

    Buffalo Bill Cody and more.

History is just around the corner.

  • Pretty neat! My great-great grandfather worked as a judge in Deadwood during its early days and knew Calamity Jane pretty well.

  • Calamity Jane was a colorful character.

Pretty funny that Jane Russell played her

in a movie. Bad as having Cary Grant

    play Cole Porter.

I think history in general (and family history)

are fascinating. My siblings find it all

    very boring, however.

    Tnx 4 the neat video.

  • I've Been there when i was a kid!

  • Me too. 43 years ago. Looks like it hasn't

    changed much.

  • oww its so sweet this ghost town

  • Nice Video. I visited Calico August 2006.

  • Thanks! I think it makes a pretty fun day trip. We hope to make it out to Bodie Ghost Town this summer.

  • no need to visit this town. i watched the movie....

  • LMAO THE GLORY HOLE.

  • @holdenbane huh huh huh huh huh .... Yeah ... Glory Hole! Huh huh huh... !

  • A glory hole?? Dont wanna know whats indside of it!

  • @huudiduu ...most men never find it.....

  • It's not really a ghost town if it's such a large tourist attraction. I went to an abandoned mining town in Colorado, and THAT was a real ghost town.

  • I see your point... But it is supposed to be haunted. And it was once a thriving silver mining district, so though it's not abandoned, it is technically a ghost town. Hope to make it up to Bodie soon....

  • A glory hole?!?! I am going to travel the thousands of miles from England to go and see that!

  • I was thinking the same thing ahahaha

  • Now I know why my husband was laughing at me when I said that. I had no clue what "the other meaning" was. Ah well, it's good for a laugh.

  • its nice there, ive been to a couple real ghost towns in colorado, i used to be in a town called Pagosa Springs for a couple years, alot near there are plenty of ghost towns

  • i went there today

  • I liked Calico.

  • haha, Glory Hole, oh those miners :D

  • Ha! The running joke around our house. Why didn't I notice that when I said it?

  • I still don't get it - the joke I mean. Probly is best that I don't know.

  • Veronica is hottie.

  • This place rules on halloween!!maggies mine is not scary at all

  • um are there REAL ghost there cause my dad is taking me there this saterday and i like all that spooky shit wit the ghost plz reply back and sry for my mouth, lol it runs in my family lol!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yes, it supposed to be haunted by Calico's first school teacher, Margaret Oliver, and former resident Lucy Lane.

  • NO i had to go there on the feildtrip and no theres no ghosts they call it a ghosttown cause no one lives there and it wa abandoned

  • Looks like a fun day.

  • looks creepy and isolated from the freeway i didnt know it was soo "touristy".... not really a ghost town if people still live there...

  • Hi, thanks for your comment. Actually nobody lives there, but it is a tourist attraction. Check it out sometime. Pretty cool!

  • Its basically a bunch of shops. Go to Bodie.

  • looks a good day out but not really a ghost town with shops and atm lol.

  • It is still a real ghost town, but with "modern" conveniences.

  • You can see the Glory Hole? WTF!?

  • i was there in 2000 really liked it. pan for gold that was fun. loved the house of bottles, never knew there were trails you could walk on

  • I was there this July, It is pretty cool there. Very interesting and we could feel the history. BUT this place was almost dead... it was only us and maybe 4 more people... not mentioning that everything was closed, and we didn't see ATM's that were mentioned in this video...dead....

Cool place that somehow needs to be reanimated!

  • Hi there! The ATM is over by the coffee shop. They used to have really cool cowboy shoot-outs here on the streets, but unfortunately some guests complained about the noise and they did away with it. Too bad. They do have many fun events, including Calico Days which is coming up Oct. 9-11 with stagecoach rides, an Old West encampment, Old Miners Triathlon and other attractions.

  • maybe there are ghost there:S

  • Yes, the school house is supposed to be haunted.

  • Drove by here last week, went there 6 years ago.

  • calico is pretty cool, but for a real adventure one should take a look at the other ghosttowns just minutes away by 4wheelers. like hanson, the borax works down the canyon behind calico, or whats left of the huge commerical mining operations down wall street canyon.

  • Nice tips. Thank you!

  • man i remeber i came here for my 4th grade field trip it was such a cool place. i want to go back haha. hopefully ill go there sometime soon.

  • Yes, it's cool! Bodie Ghost Town is really popular too, up off the 395.

  • i know its not my buiness at all but what made you be a traveler tip?=)

  • I grew up in California, lived her my whole life, and love to travel. I like to share my travels with other people, hopefully helping them out with tips and information about the destinations. Before doing this, I was a travel writer and editor, so it comes naturally for me. Hope you enjoy the videos!

  • if you do go back...make absolute sure to check out the Glory Hole!!

  • I agree. It's not to be missed!

  • "Check out the glory hole" lol

  • I know, I know. But really — that's what they call it! LOL

  • I just came back from Bodie..LOVED IT!!! So much to see, but I heard they are closing it?! This seems like a fun place to go with my son who is 3years old. This will be our next trip! Cant wait!!

  • Bodie is very cool! We hope to make it up there for a video. Calico is very accessible, so it makes a nice day trip. Hope you have fun. Your son will love the gold panning, train and mines. Take care, Veronica

  • I've been here a couple of times. It's a cool place to stop at, if your going by it.

  • I agree! Great for a break on the way to Las Vegas. :) Veronica

  • hahahahahaha i have been there and my grandpa lives like 2 minutes away from there and i love calico it is the best i have been to calico soo many times and me and my family took an old time pictures there

  • I dont watch california travel tips but I have this marked on google earth.I decided to look it up on youtube and found this.

  • Cool! Hope you learned some cool facts about the ghost town and have time to visit it some day. Thanks for commenting! Veronica

  • I thought you were going to talk about knotts berry farm but you did mention how walter knott bought the city. I never knew calico was a real place I thought it was just a name made up for the theme park

  • She did mention it.

  • Ive been here so many times, I love it! Thanks for posting

  • Thanks so much for the kind words. I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Veronica

  • i whant to go there now to see if they have over modernised it cos most the time they over modernise Ghost towns they find and they end up to end up like a theme park i also wonder if there is other Ghost towns that havent be discoverd.

  • Only 5 of the original buildings remain because there was a fire that burned down most of the town. Interesting question about the other ghost towns. A few others in California are Bodie, Randsburg, Rhyolite near Death Valley. Thanks for commenting! Veronica

  • was this the ghost town that was used in Charmed when the girls' father wants to buy it but Phoebe sees a ghost fight and gets shot?

  • Hmmm. I don't know. Perhaps another viewer can help us out?

  • been there it was great

  • Cool! Glad you had fun, and thanks for commenting! Veronica

  • what makes even a small town famous?>>>frontier Outlaws! find Calico's bad boys and Calico is famous forever!

  • I was very dissapointed with our visit to Calico. Very very little was original and the place is very commercialized. If you want a more authentic experience I would recommend Bodie. Calico is more like a themepark.

  • Hi cullyvan. I agree about Bodie — and can't wait to shoot a video there! Another interesting ghost town is at Randsburg off Highway 395. At Calico, a fire destroyed much of the ghost town, but five buildings were saved, which now include the Park Office, Lane's General Store, and Lil's Saloon, Zenda Mining Company building. Many of the mines are also still intact, though too dangerous to enter. But it is a real ghost town!

  • wow i have to go there now it is incredible

  • Thanks, spikeanddummy! I hope you have fun!

  • Veronica, the town looks so incredible!

This have somekind of calming effect to me..

  • Thank you, rojeremy! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

    Veronica

  • I've been there twice since I'm in the high desert its very lovely.

  • the glory hole looks radical. thanks for the vid! :)

  • wow great clarity. professionally shot.
