"dethread"? you mean remove the cable and replace it? the cable usually loops through a little hole and has a little round metal disk that keeps it from pulling back through, push it out backwards, you'll probably have to pry it with a screwdriver, and take out the little disk, take out the loop and pull it back through. reverse process to install.
if you mean it's bound up, tie to a tree or something and back up as you let the winch out or put it on freespool.
