However I do give you a lot of credit...I don't think people realize how difficult that song is to sing. Its almost impossible sometimes. And people dont realize that elijah was in a studio and not live, and dancing around like crazy like in the broadway show.
u gotta realize this is a gospel, requres a choir, and do your own thing dont try to impersonate elijah kelley, he most likely had a thousand different ways of singin it and you got very weak at the end JUST DO YOU!!
I have no problem with what you said, because it's all true. However, I chose to do Elijah Kelley's version of this song because it made an already difficult song more challenging, and also, I wanted to prove that I could do, in one take, a decent performance of a song that probably took quite a few takes to edit together. I'm always trying to get better, and recordings are something I aspire to be like. I do however agree that I should be myself, and I do and will continue to go my own way.
I know, and that was an added perk in the entertainment. Part of me also did it because I knew it would probably be my only time to ever do it onstage. :D
THIS is amazing...the only thing that would make it better was a lot of people dancing. I saw the musical on Broadway, the movie can't compare, and you are definately fit to be on Broadway!
if this song was in his range he wouldn't have been in falsetto for the last minute of the song, and i think it should only be performed when you can belt those notes. Like i said, it was still an amazing performance, it's just there are better songs for this guys range out there
Hi. I'm the guy in the video, and thank you for your feedback. I'm my own worst critic, so I partially agree with you. This song IS in my range, (If I didn't sing the other parts of the song beforehand, I could do it much better) but the problem was keeping the belt up for a while. I'm still learning how to keep things "free and easy" you see, and sometimes I get carried away and my breath support goes with it. I'm sure with more practice, I can stick it eventually.
that's the whole difficulty realm of these kinds of songs, keeping it interesting throughout and having enough left for the finale which of course has to be the biggest. One approach is to back off the first half of the song even though you can sing louder you back off intentionally so as to save your voice for the end.
True. Thanks for the tip Allan. Just to clarify, THIS is my YouTube account. I accidentally used someone else's without realizing it when I wrote my comment.
Yeah i mean i personally LOVE this song to death, probably my favorite one from Hairspray and I would love to sing it, i just refuse to let myself do it because of the ending and the falsettos, i guess you could do a different improvisation than Elijah Kelly did but his is amazing, lol, I give you props for doing it tho and not being awful like 99.99% of everybody else on YouTube performing it, lol, good luck in the future :-)
you're so good at singing! my criticisms have already been mentioned.
